Review Saints versus Sydney - Positives & Negatives

Does anyone else ever find themselves remembering he was dropped once before for not buying into the intensity required.

I'm not saying that we should do that again, but maybe start him on the bench or forward.

Isn't it a pleasure to watch Roo in full flight. He had to be BOG!
But on Steven. Or Stevens!!! This poor guy is going to be called Stevens by the stupid commentators for his whole career lol. Any way Steven frustrates the hell out of me. Ive been observing his poor decision making under pressure for years hoping its going to eventually improve, and maybe it has... marginally. But he gets the ball and decides to turn and take the easiest handball even if its a useless disposal or puts someone under pressure and its really damaging his game.
He needs to get it and just go, he needs to take a second to asses his options before he gets rid of the ball, until he gets this right he's going to remain an average player to me.

I don't understand why ever commentator feels the urge to add an 's' to his name.

I reckon he has improved on the decision making over the end of last year/early start to this year.

must be some unwritten rule, the winner of medals must go to a player of the winning side

a lot of negatives for Kosi, i thought it was no surprise that Riewoldt's output was up with Kosi in the team, the truth is he still draws defenders, no one else in our team does.

Both simple, and to the point.

Positives:
Gears tank
Robertons tackling
Nathan Wright's rebounding
Roo's sublime like game
Jack Steven's attitude
Monty's last quarter goal
Seb Ross the future
The tackle count

Negatives:
Wasted scoring opportunites
Kozi's frees against
Hyphen's terrible disposal
The umps
Outnumbered at the drop of the ball when defensive rebounding
No Milney

Positives: Getting within 3 kicks of reigning premiers shows we aren't in too bad shape.

Negatives: We still lost (again)

A lot of people expected Sydney to thump us by 50 points plus, not sure why when we beat them last year at Etihad and almost beat them at the SCG. Glad we were competitive again and at least shut up a few people that thought we'd get flogged. It took a lopsided free kick count in their favour to get Sydney over the line, Swans supporters don't like hearing that though as they think their team is vastly superior to ours, when in reality it isn't.

As I mentioned elsewhere I'm getting sick of honorable losses though, need to start turning them into wins. Can't fault our players effort though, they keep having a crack, would be nice if the umpires could give us a fair crack of the whip once in a while.

Call me crazy but I haven't given up on our finals chances, a win over the Pies next week and we'll be right back in business.

Negatives: They are all still trying to kick it like Gram, those stupid high trajectory kicks help no one but the opposition.

I'm still coming to terms with last week - where kicks to leading forwards bounced in front of them repeatedly. Maybe there was a focus during the week and they over-compensated with spine breakers?

if we are going to keep playing here someone needs to pay for the drainage to be fixed. Yesterday was a cracking day, sun was out, a nice little breeze yet the ground was soaked from overnight rain more than 18 hours later. It reminded me of local footy when I was a kid.
Forget the result, we need to keep losing to rebuild, the atmosphere was electric, was as noisy as Etihad and the exciting thing is talk back radio has been full of new Saints fans all morning here!!! The NZ PM was also quoted today saying that the Govt tourism board is keen to come on board as Saints sponsors, now that would be mega bucks ala Tasmania.
If I had to describe Wellington, I would describe it as a similar town in size to Canberra with a similar population, and you cant imagine 23,000 turning up to an AFL game in Canberra.
AFL rules the roost in terms of spectator experience.

The pitch isn't going to change. It's designed for Rugby. The All Blacks, Hurricanes, and Wellington ITM Cup side (Can't quite remember the name ATM), play there for most of the year, with The Phoenix taking over for the summer months. Unless we make a move to secure a long term deal (3-4 games a year for 4 or 5 years) I don't see it changing.

That being said, my rellys flew down from Auckland and really enjoyed the game. Their going to try and bring a few more people next year. It did help that their kid is over here and already a saints supporter though. ;)

that is extremely encouraging. i would love to see us play 4 games there a year including the anzac game. next year brisbane and port or wce would be an obvious choice for the two games.

something like:
anzac day vs sydney
home game vs brisbane
home game vs port adelaide
home game vs west coast

GWS/GC wont have the supporter base to attract fans for the away game. otherwise ideally we would play them. playing doggies/melb/western bulldogs might be an option. dockers rivalry should probably stay at etihad??

West Coast or Fremantle should never be made to travel to Wellington, considering the Melbourne-Wellington trip is as long as the Perth-Melbourne.

Also, as a reserved seat member, I'd absolutely hate to have any more than one or two games over there. When we lose a home game, we get given a replacement in the form of being able to go to an away game. The problem is that the seats you're given are pretty much in the nosebleeds, which just means stiff shit for the people who are paying higher prices for level 1 or 2 seats. It's also annoying because you don't get seated with the people you're around at home games, which is one of the reasons why people first purchase, and then maintain, reserved seats.

i live in perth so not really fussed where they play, just care about whats best for us as a club

plus making the scum over here trave that far would be sweet

Enjoyed the run and carry from our younger blokes
Riewoldts game was the best I seen in a few years
Hayes still our best mid which blows my mind
Montagna looked super dangerous
Roberton looks a future AA defender, we did really well getting him
tackling effort by the entire team

Gilbert butchering it as usual
Jones effort was first rate but man his composure needs work. Just blasts away to noone
Saads run up when lining up. Srly? Looks out of form as well.
Mcevoy struggling
Umpires giving us nothing yet again
Kosi is past it

I agree. 2 or 3 games is about right. GWS, GC and Sydney suits me. I am not too fazed by away supporter numbers. We want Kiwis and Saints fans. We are always a chance to win against GWS and GC for the next few years aswell which is good from a marketing perspective.

Not sure if i mentioned it already or not, But Jon Ralph mentioned the other day the saints could potentially play Brisbane or a Queensland side (Gold Coast of course) next ANZAC Day.

I am all for it - especially if it means we play in colder conditions as they suit us although Brisbane and GC are better in the greasy conditions than us.

Sorry to sound stupid lads but I can't work out who is who in the picture. Is Rooey leading to the hole 30 metres out directly in front and Kosi leading to the pocket that draws a defender?

Yes on both counts.

Thanks. Everyone is doing the right thing except TDL. He should be leading at Joey to draw the Swans defender forward so that he couldn't drop back in front of Kosi. He may well have done that after this frame though. Right there is the difference between TDL and Sipposs. If Sipposs is on the 50 then the opposition backs have to guard him because he can easily go the journey. Swans defenders wouldnt be worried about TDL loose on the 50 and could zone back without concern.
