Salim Mehajer sentenced to 21 months' jail for electoral fraud

Former Auburn deputy mayor Salim Mehajer will spend at least 11 months in jail for rigging the 2012 local NSW government election — the election that rocketed him into the public eye.

In an offence described by Magistrate Beverley Schurr as striking "at the heart of the electoral system", Mehajer was sentenced to a maximum of 21 months' jail for 77 cases of electoral fraud stemming from the 2012 poll.

Mehajer and his family bombarded the Australian Electoral Commission with false applications to vote in Mehajer's ward in the space of one hour in July 2012.

Mehajer didn't get to where he was all alone, he's been playing the system for a long time and he was allowed to do it without the proper checks. If he hadn't become so entitled, too big for his designer boots and up himself, shutting streets down in Auburn for his totally over the top wedding he might have kept getting away with it.

Why are half of Salim Mehajer's 183k Insta followers from Brazil?

Should be a longer sentence for electoral fraud tbh.

Also should throw him in with the big boys to really teach him a lesson or two

He'll appeal I think so maybe, if he's too cocky about it his appeal will backfire and he'll get a longer sentance.

I shouldn't laugh but ........ LOL

Represented himself and had to withdraw his appeal on the severity of his sentence when Judge Frearson told Mehajer he found his behaviour “reprehensible and disgusting” and proposed to increase his sentence. LOL

SALIM Mehajer, who will spend winter in NSW’s coldest prison, has butted heads with a judge who’s threatened to increase his sentence.

I hope they take the cocky prick out of segregation and put him in general population

Slow learner is back in solitary and denied bail again.

Disgraced Sydney businessman Salim Mehajer has been refused bail again after a judge said his offending in jail displayed his "arrogant disregard for the law".

NSW Supreme Court Justice David Davies referenced Mehajer's string of incidents in custody before denying him bail on Thursday as the controversial figure appeals 77 convictions related to electoral fraud.

Missed his court appearance this morning, his solicitor Zali Burrows told the court he was in hospital with a broken hand. Judge Bennett said if he does not appear at 2pm today he'll issue a warrant for his arrest.

Perhaps he punched a wall and hit a stud when he heard he was about to be upstaged by Nelly Yoa.
