Okay mate. Metres gained, oh yeah now that’s a convincing stat…
Well if nothing else, it shows he’s willing to be an attacking weapon offensively

And before you say ‘no good if it goes to the opposition’, he’s going at an above average kicking efficiency for a midfielder this season (according to the AFL app)

Has done very well to cement his spot in the midfield in a very good side. Considering some on here, including me, were questioning the decision to extend his contract and not use it to gain draft capital in last years draft. Has been important in Matt Crouch's absence and has ended up giving the team more versatility, with his ability to carry the ball forward as well as do all the tough in and under stuff. Similar to Jordan Butts regarding time frames - looked like becoming a player a few years ago, then a couple of quiet years before returning this year back to the form that was promised early on. Can impact on the scoreboard too. Unheralded, tough and uncompromising. An important piece of the puzzle.

Like him and appreciated his bursts from stoppage and left foot kicking skills. Just wished he averaged more than 20+ rather than only 14 against top 9 teams since he stopped being a sub.

Huge reason why we are top. Never going to win the brownlow, but he’s done a great job being the grunt in the midfield. Seems to have a great attitude and has acknowledged and worked on his deficiencies.

Would be a great story if we go all the way this year.

I'd be interested to know how effective he is in the defensive aspects against those top 9 teams. If there is a measurement for that. Whilst he's an ok kick of the footy - you'd rather those extra 6 possessions that would take him to 20, are used up by the likes of Dawson, Soligo and Rankine. I guess in the end, as long as the team is winning.

Eddie McGuire on his recent podcast 'Eddie and Jimmy' (Bartell), made some complimentary comments about Sam Berry and knew him growing up and his family also.

It made me think there's a potential interest in getting him back home at some point. Although there was no hint of this from Eddie, just the mention made me think that Eddie is still following his career to some extent.

I think crouch is the better player but berry is doing more of what we need right now.

More defensive pressure and speed, and has his own burst speed out of packs. Dont think we really need Crouchy getting 30 touches a week.

If we start losing the ball and our contested disposal count goes down then crouch is our man again

Went to Melbourne Grammar with Eddie's 2 sons, particularly close with the Joe who's now plying his trade as a punter in the American College footy system. I'm pretty sure there were rumours in the media IIRC that the Pies had made overtures to Sam when he was coming out of contract hence why he took his time to re-commit and only signed off on a 2 year deal.

It would make sense if Collingwood was interested. They have tried Long which seemed effective for a bit but he has dropped off and now Mitchell but I’m not sure he fits anymore. They’re clearly looking for someone to complement Daicos, and Berry would be perfect for that.

Crouch is not the contested possession and clearance upgrade on Berry that a lot of people think he is.

He's part of our best 22 now. Looks good in the engine room. He'd be missed if he went home.

Eddie certainly made no suggestion of a swoop but to single him out for praise surprised me.
