God i hope so. IMO the less u play guys like this the better for you guys.

I'm afraid I have to agree. We would be far better giving someone a game who hasn't consistently been found wanting when promoted to the seniors. Voss has demonstrated that he is a slow learner with team selection and slow to react during games, but surely he couldn't be that slow to learn. I know he has his supporters, but playing Sheldon is like playing a man down.

I would be putting games into someone else at this stage.

Thanks Mr. Ripper, I am always prepared to be proven wrong, especially when it comes to Lions players that I have written off turning it around and adding value to our team.

Sheldon’s been a good consistent performer for four weeks. Our backline has held up fairly well this year so it’s been hard for him to get his opportunity.

Gary O'Donnell

O'Donnell said Sheldon had worked hard for his chance.

"There's probably a few guys in front of him in the role he plays, like (Jed) Adcock and (Pearce) Hanley, but he's worked hard and deserves his chance.

"He's got some good speed so he gives us a little more pace around the ground and coming out of defence, so we're looking forward to his first game."

Match Review Panel

Lions defender Sam Sheldon has been charged by the AFL’s Match Review Panel with a first offence for making negligent contact with an umpire (Matt Stevic) during the first quarter of the match between the Brisbane Lions and Essendon last Saturday.

Sheldon can accept a $900 sanction with an early plea.

A first offence for making negligent contact with an umpire is a $1200 sanction. An early plea reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to a $900 sanction.

Round 9 vs North Melbourne

One question that emerged from the win was where has Sam Sheldon been? Last week he was very impressive in the first half in his first game of the season when he did a great job on dangerous Bomber Leroy Jetta, before fading out of it when he was shifted forward.
And last night he again had a crack.
Sure, he can turn the ball over by foot a bit, but he fights harder than others who enjoy a spot in the side week after week.
And he was one of the few Lions who had clean hands in the conditions.

Probably his best game for the club. He actually looked composed out there tonight.

Comfortably his best. Not only was he composed, but he was utterly fearless, consistently going in lower and harder. Several times he took on multiple opponents and acquitted himself exceptionally well. Great game Sammy :thumbsu:

Geez he really could make it. Shows that not every footballer develops to the same schedule. Patience may be rewarded here.

No mate you are clearly wrong, there are a lot of people here who have repeatedly stated that it is a fact that there is no chance he will make it.

Super impressed with Sam - he looks bigger now and is really committed to the contest. I hope he makes a real go of this opportunity. We have put the time in with him - rewards to follow?!?!

Last night was by far his best game for the club. However he still looks extremely skinny for someone that has been in the system for 4 years now. I would have thought that he would have gotten a bit bigger. Anyway great game from Sammy last night, I really hope he does make it!
