Same old same old

The outs this week are superb, the ins are very disappointing.

Hopefully Mundy was dropped for being soft and not because of his disposal errors last week.

Great post Imperial Purple!

I think the young guys should be given a go - not whole sale changes, but bring in one guy for a few games in a row will do them the world of good. MCarr cops it a lot on this site and while i think he is okay, we don't just want okay , so dropping him for a week or 2 could give a Foster or Ibbotson a go and it doesn't mean the end of MCarr either. Remember Macca was dropped 2 years ago and came back a better player.

It's surprising that Mundy and Schammer are the emergencies, surely a run in the WAFL would have been beneficial for both. If Farmer, Bell and Sandilands are all going to be fit to play I would have prefered Parker to be the 23rd man, because he has nothing to gain from playing for Subi.

The list management has been subject to criticism for years. You'd remember Dutchey complaining that we had a fleet of small, slow short people back in 2004.

This is one of my complaints about CC. It's his list, and except for a great patch last year, it hasn't been able to win its fair share of the ball or shut down another midfield since 2003. That patch had no Haselby and an in-form Peake. Coincidence?

And an uninjured Peake, a developed as opposed to an injury handicapped Dunn, an in-form Crowley, a fit Schammer and a firing Haselby would transform that midfield.

I have seen several times this year where clubs are playing draftees from last years draft and these kids are firing.

So what we are saying is that we have a selection problem with the kids we draft. We are not picking the kids that are walk up starts.

Is this a problem with a recruiting manager?? or is it because we traded away our picks???

Its a development issue.

The percentage of new draftees who are "walk up starts" would be tiny. Better to give talented players the time they need for their bodies to develop before you have seasoned campaigners crashing into them.

I was looking at Geelong.
Hawkins, Selwood, Varcoe. Regulars
Collingwood in the last two years.
Dick, Thomas, Goldsack, Clarke. Regulars
Carlton:Gibbs,Murphy.
Port: Westhoff, Gray
That's just a few...so lets wait some more and keep playing the same players who keep taking us to the heights ...If you don't give them an extended run, not 1 game and then out, we will never get anywhere...and we will keep playing shitand going backwards.

Does anyone truly believe that collingwood would have so many young guys playing for them if the likes of buckley clement and prestiagiacomo were available? Mick is only playing the young guys because he's got no one else - he's been lucky and had a few do alright.

Difference there chook is that malthouse did give the young blokes a run and they did turn out alright. When our "best 22" regs have been out we've seen precious little of the young fellas (Warnock excepted), but the same fringe players and the same underperforming regulars getitng us the same results. Maybe if they had've thrown the ball to the young blokes for more than 1/4 of footy, then we might have unearthed a gem or two also. Maybe.

OBrien, Cloke, Pendlebury, Toovey to add a few more.

Most of the young guys playing well are early draft picks. The only young first round pick on our list is Drum, and he has been struggling for form in the WAFL. Even if he does string a few good games together I can't see where he fits in with the arrival of Tarrant and Solomon. That's the problem with trading for players, not only do you give away early picks but you also deprive the young guys already on your list of opportunities.

I was happy to read in today's Sunday Times that we plan to hang on to our draft picks this year, although that could change considering our record since Schwab arrived at the club.

Toovey, OBrien, Dick and Cox weren't early picks, and Goldsack wasn't any earlier than Ibbo for memory. Pendlebury was early but like Ibbo was very green and had only just taken up football, very similar stories actually, until of course they were drafted and that's where the similarities end.

Foster is older than almost all of these blokes.

I also wonder how many of these blokes were made to dominate in the VFL before getting opportunities? I would suggest that their coach just identified their talent and was willing to foster it (pardon the pun) and give them the opportunities to develop.

You obviously don't know how these guys performed prior to senior selection.

Putting forward a guess about "their" coach being able to spot player talent before they actually showed it, is a pretty weak and uninformed slur against Connolly.

Maybe the difference is teams like Eddiewood & Hawthorn have been pretty crap for a while and have to bring players through. We've been knocking on the door for a couple of years now with the seniors we have. You don't see too many kids coming through at the Swans where the seniors have been doing the biz. It's now coming to the point where we are getting overtaken by the young teams and will probably have to throw in the towel as far as going all the way with this lot and rebuild a bit. We will see plenty of change next year. A new coach might be inclined to use a bigger broom but I think CC will have a spring clean if he's still got the coaches parking spot.

we have the most over rated list in the AFL and until we weed out the non performers and mental soft ***** we aint going nowhere regardless of who the coach is.

You miss the point, this "weeding" is part of the coach's job. So yes, I am hoping that a change of coah will fix this.

You idiot...Walker played so well today...
I mean Harvey only had 9000 possessions today and Walker got within 5 meters at least once...

Won't make any difference because of that lot only Peake has any genuine footspeed. At top speed, Schammer isn't much quicker than Hase and Josh Carr.

In any case, you can see from the last two games, Schammer is so light he has trouble making a contest. As to his pressure skills ....

You are also assuming Dunn would get in ahead of Hase, Belly and the two Carrs which is unlikely.
