30 minute interview and I didn't get to hear it all so those who did please fill in the holes:

Missing Bailey

Not fit enough, focused on strength and conditioning. The rest of the comp has caught us, no Sando they've passed us. Tredrea said on Nine tonight we lost Schwerdt due to dollars and we wouldnt spend the money on Burgess. I wonder how much Tippett Trigg gate hurt here.

Changed game plan, but didn't hear enough to elaborate

Free agents, hinted we might need to wait until 2014 when South Aussies become available

Claimed Kerridge role hasn't changed.

Stiffy struggling with his back and fitness, don't expect him back this week.

Got quizzed about VB and tagging, heard some fluff about team defence and Rowey picked him up on it.

That's all I have.

I like sando and the way he speaks. What I got from the interview re:selections is that we really do have a 'Best 22' pinned up somewhere and we're just waiting for all these guys to get into form and fire together.
Worked well last year but when so many players don't fire there's only so long you can sit on your hands.

Lol Rowey actually wasn't too bad (!). What stood out for me was when Rowey asked wtf vB's role is, why he isn't playing outside tagger and Wright isn't playing inside tagger this year. Sando's answer: "the good sides don't play hard tags".

Someone kindly inform Sando that we are not one of the good sides. Even last year, we were a fairly middling side talent wise but we punched above our weight by playing to our strengths. About vB's only strength is tagging, its where he can contribute.

This is one area where I'm becoming increasingly concerned re Sando. He seems to be showing a tendency to get ahead of himself and its hurting us. Optimism is good, but within reason. I mean the whole giving pre-season speeches about emulating 97 this year; timing our run for the finals and resting our guns when we should've had all hands on deck in the pre-season to hit the ground running; and now doing away with tagging because the good teams don't do it.

Can we please get back to never taking anything for granted and playing one game at a time, you know like they teach in junior footy.

Excellent post and exactly what I've been thinking is wrong these days. A lot of basic, fundamental things not going right, and much of it is Sanderson not 'living in the moment'. Match day moves poor too on the whole. Also losing Schwerdt because of coin, and not getting Burgess for the same reason, terrible management decisions. We need a decent fitness coach and quick. We need Bailey back urgently too. Lots to fix at good old AFC.

That comment concerns me.

Crowely is the obvious one. Shiels/Sewell is probably the other that stands out.

Plus, we're not a good side. If he hadn't noticed we haven't beaten anyone currently above us on the ladder.

Some of what he said was quite concerning. Happy with all our coaching staff, looking forward to trigg returning, unlikely to take part in free agency this year. Seemed like a big media smokescreen to me

Interesting he said he does not believe in taggers, and yet spoke about concentrating on key players in a team defence ie Kennedy against the Swans (23 posessions) and a couple of Richmond mids , where only Deledio really dominated as a mid you would tag. It worked against Freo and Hawthorn.

Not defending the tactic as such, but do wonder if at times he is slow to identify the player doing the most damage during the game and switching the focus. Last year Bailey helped with this.

But yeah I do think VB is a natural tagger, or defensive mid as I prefer.

Didn't Sando come from Geelong, what role did Ling play?

Sando is starting to build his own list of shakes head moments

His excuse for Hanebury..ah Sando he has 100 disposals at half time hello?? That is my biggest worry our match day moves are too slow.

This was an issue under Craig...some of those match day coaches are still in the box! It appears some of them can't make quick decisions.

I reckon Ross might use that in a few weeks time
My decision to spend a week in WA leading up to the Freo game is not looking very smart. We could see history in the making with Freo just getting the better of us (4-4 to 0-1).

Does anyone believe that Freo without Pavlich, Sandilands, Morabito and Walters (when they played us) are more talented than our squad?

Tredrea said on Nine tonight we lost Schwerdt due to dollars and we wouldnt spend the money on Burgess.

You have got to be kidding me? If this is true it's the second worst decision (behind Tippett) by our administration in the last ten years.

So thanks to Trigg we've lost;

Six first and second round draft picks.
A (or the) top fitness coach.
A (or the) top recruiter.

But great job shifting us to Adelaide Oval, champ.

Hmm Bicks, Campo, Doc or Sando is too stubborn back his players in.

Bailey's loss is bigger than we think, thanks to the Dees who are fined and the AFL picks up the tab and we cop the whack.

Let's accept Sanderson's suggestion that good sides don't play a hard tag (not sure I agree, but we'll go with it).

Then the line of thought that says "we're not a good side, so we should play a hard tag" is flawed. What's the point in training up a side to play a style of footy, if it's not the style of footy we'll play when we're actually competing for a premiership? If the best sides must play a team defence, then we should keep focusing on developing that, rather than switching up to an apparently inferior tactic.

That said, I don't agree with that assertion at all. The best teams all play differently to one another. One thing I suspect none of them did was look at what the top teams were doing, while they were terrible, and try to emulate it. It doesn't work on modern footy - the game moves on too fast. If we're not a top team, but we try to emulate one, by the time we get there that style of play is unlikely to be the dominant style anymore.

What we should be doing is looking at our list, identifying our strengths and weaknesses, building a gameplan around that, and looking how the gaps can be filled through trade week and the draft.

As much as Sando says he can't wait for Trigg to come back you could hear it in his voice when he said we aint in the first or second round...thanks guys we're screwed. Loved to get James Aish in a Crows jumper....make it happen AFC! If not this trade month when his finishes his first contract.

No mention of Milburn???

Milburn who is far and away the least experienced of all our coaching staff seems to be his lieutenant IMO as he ALWAYS without exception sits alongside Sando on gameday and being a former teammate and close friend I feel it would be most likely he is the one who would be having the major input.

I think this is an excellent point. A key part of the game plan for Hawthorn, Sydney, Geelong and Freo is to play a loose man in defence for part or all of most games.

We seem to be happy to let the opposition have the plus one in defence in order to have an extra player in the midfield. Either we are way behind the top 4 teams or we are working on the next quantum leap in game plans.

In the first half against Sydney we didn't allow a spare man in their defence but we never went man on man at the stoppages. We seemed to be playing a gridiron game plan around stoppages leaving several of their players free on the defensive side of stoppages. Hopefully it's a great new plan in its infancy

Even with our draft picks this year, we would not be getting Aish.

He will go top 4-5. We wont finish below 13th. GWS/Melb/Bulldogs/Saints/Brisbane/North are all likely to finish below us.

Yeah I know and Sando knows it. Think we are working on getting him back "homesick" after his first contract is up.
