My Money House Oval is not a joke!? o_O
No it isn't, there are only three ovals left in South Australia that are not named after corporate sponsors. Alberton and Prospect are stlll their original suburban names and the formerly named Unley Oval is now Peter Motley Oval after a player whose career was ended in a car crash.
Two with much longer corporate names are the formerly named Marrara Oval in Darwin, now TIO(Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman) Stadium and TIO Traeger Park in Alice Springs.

My Money House was Elizabeth, Gliderol was Glenelg, Coopers was Norwood, Hickinbotham was Noarlunga, Maughan Thiem Hyundai was Woodville-West Torrens(originally Woodville) and City Mazda was Richmond.

Any AFL-SANFL clashes next year?
- AFL round 17 (July 15) we play Freo in Perth and Crows reserves in Kadina. Allowing for time difference, the Sanfl game would finish first. Not ideal though if you want to make the trip to Kadina + watch the AFL game.

- AFL round 20 (August 4) we have the Showdown in the AFL, and play West Adelaide in the Sanfl. Sanfl game would finish first due to the AFL game starting at 4.05pm, but it would be too much of a pain getting from City Mazda stadium in time for the first bounce of the Showdown.

The Wombat Hotel at 19 Taylor St has FoxSports. Although whether they would play the Port game or the Adelaide one is anyone's guess. There is also the Kadina Hotel at 29 Taylor St and the Royal Exchange Hotel at 7 Digby St but I don't know whether they have TV.
Looks like the pubs are around the same area and are easy to get to from the oval.

I took the fixture graphic just_kick_it made for the Power and set it against the Maggies fixture and looks like there are clashes in the following games.

Direct time clash - none

Same day clash -
Sun July 15 Maggies play the crows in Kadina 1.10pm Power in Perth playing Freo 4.10
Sat Aug 4 Maggie play Westies at Richmond 1.10 Away Showdown at 4.05

No bye for the Maggies after Shanghai game.

Maggies play Wednesday Anzac day, 2 Friday nights, 7 Saturdays and 7 Sundays with final round to be announced after July. The Power play 13 times out of 21 games on a Saturday arvo, twilight or night. That drives how many Sunday games the Maggies get scheduled.

Why is no bye after Shanghai game an issue for the Magpies?

Its not like any of the 2s will be travelling on a holiday (other than a couple of emergencies) as the Magggies are playing the next day.

My mistake, I thought they gave the Maggies a bye after the Shanghai game, but it was the same weekend as Shanghai. In 2018 there is no bye either the weekend of Shanghai game or after it for the Maggies.

Thats because the SANFL has 2 split rounds and that is one of them je Rd 12 3 games weekend of 23rd and 24th and other 2 games on 1st. Same happens Rd 17.

There are three byes, then. Is that it?

P.S.: There would be 18 games in 21 weeks, right?

Every team gets one official bye but four effective byes.

Rd 4 for Port is ANZAC day on a Wednesday, so the grand final replay happens on the Wednesday public holiday for Port and Sturt. The Tuesday night West play South. So Rd 5 those 4 sides get a bye as the other 6 sides played on Saturday 21st and they play the weekend of the 28th. Rd 9 these other 6 sides get a bye.

There is an effective bye for all 10 teams between Rd 6 May 5th game and Rd 7 May 19th game because there is a state game against Western Australia on May 12th at Adelaide Oval. That is probably the driver why the Maggies don't get a bye when we play in Shanghai in 2018 on May 19th, like the Maggies got a bye the weekend when the Power played in Shanghai in 2017.

There are split Rounds in Rd 12 and 17 so that gives 4 effective byes.

The AFL season is overy 23 weekends, 22 games and 1 bye. The SANFL season starts a weekend later and over 22 weekends teams play 18 games and have 4 byes. See full SANFL fixture at;

With all due respect, but SANFL's calendar is wrong.

It should begin in the week BEFORE the AFL's Opening Bounce; not in the week after. Moreover, SANFL's Grand Final should be during the AFL's bye between H&A and Finals (SANFL's Finals would begin on AFL's Round 21).

SANFL would maximize interest for its games (at least, those first ones and the very last), and every team would still have three byes during H&A.

Nope the SANFL have finally got it right if they are only going to have 18 games ie you play every team once at home and once away. It was stupid when it was 9 teams and 22 rounds before the crows came in, you played some teams 3 times and others 2 times and the grand final is now the week before the AFL GF not the week after the GF.

If Port make finals in both comps and get knocked in the SANFL finals under your system then there are players who aren't playing in September whilst the AFL side is playing finals. That would be dumb.

If you want to maximize crowds you have it after most amateur/community/country leagues finish their finals in early or mid September. Nobody wants to play a serious game of footy in mid March when you can have a 35 degree day. 4 byes is one maybe two too many but with a 10 team comp, the SANFL season is a lot better aligned now since the move to AO and the GF is the day after the 2nd AFL Preliminary final.

I hope we get a digital pass in 2018.
The pricks will make us and crows fans buy individual game passes because its more profitable that way.

Not sure why because I support Port Adelaide that I have to pay more to watch SANFL games than say a Norwood or Glenelg fan. It's discrimination.

5. After being in a GF... Adelaide has 7 and they finished 8th! That's so ******* stupid.

Sturt - 4
Port - 5
Eagles - 4
Centrals - 4
Norwood - 4
South - 2
Glenelg - 2
Ad - 7
West - 3
North - 2

A bit off topic but I was under the impression that Noarlunga was named Hickinbotham Oval because of Alan Hickinbotham, a former South Adelaide player, not due to naming rights.
