Scariest games you've played

Haha, decided to google search it. 1996, so 13 years ago. I was 8. :o:p

The story begins in 1997. It's the dead of night in Los Angeles. There has been a mass murder at a general hospital on the outskirts of downtown. The prepetrator is the director of the hospital, Richter Harris. He has shut himself up in the hospital and taken a number of patients as hostages. The police are helpless, unable to move in. You play as Richter's only daughter, Laura Harris, who after hearing the situation, rushes to the Los Angeles from San Francisco , and drives alone to the tragic scene at the hospital ground. Help Laura to figure out the riddle of her transformed Father. The game sometime demands quick actions and a particular job to be done within a time limit. The game also has multiple endings

I was young when I first found a game called 'D' at the video shop. I can't exactly remember what the story of the game was, I think you live with a psycho killer or something and are having flash backs of a murder or something. Honestly no idea, but it scared the shit out of me playing alone in the dark. :(

Ah mate you're a champ. I was racking my brains to remember the name of that one.

Had it on sega saturn years and years ago.

That said, if memory serves me correctly, it was pretty ordinary:D

Haha, it was pretty ordinary I think, like I was was 9 or 10 when I played it. Would love to play it now ot see why I got scared. Time to look for it. :D

I had completely forgotten about D

I loved that game personally

Haha there's a blast from the past :thumbsu:

My next door neighbour had it on PSX, even his mum was scared of it :D

The only thing I remember about it was an animated suit of armour, and some creepy disembodied voice... might have even been a floating ghost head or something, lol. Classic stuff!

I think there was also a sequel set on a spaceship or something? I remember seeing a trailer for it one time... might be confusing it with something else though...

Haha, reading up about it, apparently D gets really good and the having to finish in 4 hours made it a decent game. I'm going to have to go find a copy of this to fire it back up.

I remember one cut scen of a girl being stabbed with a knife, scared me haha.,

Alex kidd, when i forgot to put a cartridge in the megadrive

On topic;

~ Resident Evil 2: The first time you see the licker. He flashes across a window and then appears in the next room. Shat a flat brick.

~ Psychonauts: Not so much scary, just flat out weird in a creepy way. Awesome game though :thumbsu:

~ Half Life 2: 'Nuff said already

just picked up a copy of Manhunt2 and the first level going through the insane asylum was scary enough for me.

but resident evil 3 was the scariest i have played, bloody nemisis would scare the bejesus out of me everytime he appeared. forced me to stop playing the game after about th 5th or 6th time. havent touched it since

in max payne when you have to follow the trail of blood across the invisible path, with that baby crying/screaming, is pretty unnerving.

Yeh that was very freaky. i hate the sound of babys crying and that was a very uncomfortable experience.

I nominate the PC game Hell. Was released about 15 years ago or so. Dennis Hopper and a few other actors were in it. Used to scare the shit out of me playing it in the dark.

Anyone played Obscure 2?
I've only played the first, was very good, liked the pack style of the game, not to mention it was a perfect teen horror style of game.

But ended up getting to a point in the game where I had no idea how to get through, so I put it away and never ended up playing it again, was a good scary game too.

The main two games that come to mind is the first Resident evil and the Silent Hill series in general.

I remember the first time I played resident evil. I noticed that I was in the hallway that looked similar to the back of the CD cover with a giant spider in it. As I moved cautiously through the hallway expecting to come across a giant spider two dogs jump through the windows out of nowhere. It was the last thing I was expecting and made me jump out of my seat.

The Silent Hill series is a different sort of horror. The type of horror atmosphere is much different and probably does my head in more than that of the Resident evil games. Firstly the monsters seem to be more twisted than in games such as Resident evil. The monsters are almost like they are in pain or been tortured, something like a damned soul that came from hell and the evironment itself looks like it is from hell. And to top it off the main bad "human" in these games are religious cult nuts who wants to 'save the world' or are insane serial killers. In other games like Resident Evil the main bad "human" character has the motivation for power. Also how the Silent Hill series makes you feel safe in the "normal" evironment makes the player feel fear and apprehension when the "hell" environment manifests. In the end it is the atmosphere that appeals in the silent hill games. It has to because the actual game play sucks.

Condemned 2 was a good one. The part where you are tripping out in the police station creeped the shit out of me!! And those damn mannequins!
Doom 3 was good as well, at the start when you look in the mirror in the toilets and theres something behind u. Man nearly flipped my sh!t

Has anyone played "The Path"? It's basically a retelling of Little Red Riding Hood, except you choose to play as one of six girls. It's barely even a game and if you do what you are told (follow the path to grandma's house), the game is over in 5 mins. It's only when you stray off the path and walk into the surrounding forest that things get interesting. Each girl has a different story to tell, but most are really unnerving. Playing as a 12 rape and murder victim to a woodsman (this game's "big bad wolf" character) freaked me out, as did the ending where grandma's house turns into a David Lynch-esq hallucinogenic nightmare. The thing is, you can't die, nothing will ever jump out at you, but you still never feel safe. A really interesting game...

I pretty much try to stay away from horror themed games or movies, but from my experience the first berserker encounter in Gears of War 1 was fairly scary for me, especially being in such narrow building and there's only one way out, and another would be watching my mate play F.E.A.R and I would be sitting there and just waiting for the little girl to jump out at a certain spot, but she would then appear at a totally unexpected time.

That sounds both scary and sexy. Seems cheap on Steam but is it worth the purchase?

It's really hard to know whether someone will like it or not. Luckily, there is a demo on steam. It's not so much a game as an interactive short horror film. I loved it, and it's gotten some outstanding reviews, but some people looking for a silent-hill type experience weren't so pleased.

This might be funny but when Ocarina of Time came out (I was 8 at the time) I used to shit myself in the Shadow Temple and also under the well.
