So-called journalist, Scott Gullan, has done a rating of how teams performed in this years trade period. North get a lowly C- while Brisbane get an A+.

WTF??

North trade a good player (not a star) who wanted to leave, and get a second and third round pick. That leaves us with 5 picks in the first 41. Not bad I thought. We also managed to hang onto Jesse Smith, which would have been a tragedy if he left.

Brisbane get a 28 y.o who, while a star player, won't have the same effect playing in a team with 2 other just-as-good goalkicking options. They also get a forward pocket down-hill skiier, a guy who couldn't get a game for Richmond, a soft-as-butter half back flanker coming off a knee, and a guy who had some potential, but then got it knocked out of him by Barry Hall.

Throw in the fact that they lost 2 kids that they've put a couple of years into, with one of them rated as a future star, and the fact that they only have 2 draft picks in the first 75, I'd say it was an average effort by the Lions.

Gullan also rated Hawthorns trade period as an A, even though they did 3 deals and got reamed on all of them.

Great stuff Scotty boy, keep up the fantastic work.

Sounds like Smith is gone irrespective and we get nothing for it, that has probably impacted our result.

To give Adelaide an F shows a complete and utter lack of understanding of the nature of list management. Last year we achieved the exact same result from trade week as Adelaide did this year, ie no trades. But last year we warranted an F. This year Adelaide scores an A or at least a B+ for not screwing up relationships with players, whilst maintaining an extremely competitive list. This journo is a dill.

When you look at Jolly only fetching 14 and 46 and Luke Ball not getting a better offer than 25, I reckon 25 and 41 for a guy who burnt all his bridges with the club and was out of contract was a pretty decent result.

He is a good player, with strengths and weaknesses, and he is never going to be a star. We can cover him so we did well.

He rates teams based on who got more PLAYERS, so regardless of which picks you got in return, if more players left than came in, then you get a dud score. Stupid.

He also rates teams based on how much excitement they gave him during the trade week by doing lots of trades. This isn't actually about entertainment, it's about list management.

How rude of Adelaide to bore you, but they actually don't have many glaring needs requiring them to trade. I wish we were in their position. It takes some courage to sit on your hands while teams are running around flogging their wares IMO.

A proper analysis would compare trades in terms of "who won" on the trades, and who met more of their needs, but that would require thought and consideration. Stupid lazy journalists.

Meh.

Who really thinks these idiots (who make up there own rating of teams without even looking into it more closely) know anything?

We can say 'meh' to it, but to the uninformed public (in other words, non-North supporters), an uninformed opinion that is taken as gospel is going to make the uninformed public have an even more uninformed opinion on North Melbourne.

Yeah, but what can we do about that?

Haha, I thought exactly the same thing seeing his ratings, we got a C, even though we got rid of two spuds and got pick 22 and Dalziell in return, and you clearly ,imo, won your trade too.

Brisbane getting an A+ and Adelaide a F is....... basically.?!

Spot on mate - I couldnt believe that when i read it this morning C-, he can go get f..cked - when those kids turn in stars we will let him know where to stick that C-. A+ for Brisbane now - yer, give it 3-4 years and see if in the last uncomprimised draft they would have done things differently.

He's an absolute f***stick. Fancy giving us a C-. Who is Josh Gibson anyway??? We picked him up as a mature age recruit late in the draft and Laidley squeezed every last bit out of him he could. He was gone early this year and please fancy asking Laidley and Crocker to play u in the midfield. Gibson has average awareness and is slow and doesn'thave quick hands and it shows you where is character is at when you are asking to be played in the midfield. Who does he think he is Brett Deledio or something. He is a one trick Pony back pocketer at best. Pick 25 for Gibson is a steal and Shaun Burgonoyne??? Who is this guy??? Who is to say that his body is guna hold up. Injury prone and past his best. Clarko you are a wan**r. Ever since Hawthorn won a flag they have turned into the most arrogant diss-liked club in the AFL. Cant wait to we play them next year.

Gullen's a tool. His contempt for North is transparent. How did Carlton not get a F for the masterful Fevola deal? Because Gullen's a tool.
Gibson was a very good player for us but really, he wouldn't have got a gig in any of our premiership teams. I am stoked with the deal and it shows how poorly Hawthorn rates their own backline.
I would have been devastated if we'd lost Scott Thompson.
But Gibson, meh. I'm over it already.
Oh, and did I mention that Gullen's a tool?

Gibson was never a very good player. Gibson was a good player, or an average player. In the midfield he was a liability.

^This. As shown by his Adelaide rating, if you got players you rated highly. Not sure if it was stupid or tongue in cheek.
