What do you think? Both pretty evenly matched players. Big body players who can kick from outside 50 on the run or set shot.

Lucas can also go back for defence.

Which would you prefer in your team based on Skill/Talent irrelevent to age.

If we vote Lucas will it make you feel nice and fuzzy?

Nope.... to be honest, had a look at the votes before just for curiosities sake and im pretty much discounting votes from Essendon or Collingwood fans.

Personally I think both players are pretty line ball which is why im kinda interested to see what other supporters think.

Both players have the ability to turn a game off their own boot which Rocca has already proven this season.

lucas is a better defender and anthony's a better ruckman

it all depends which one you need. in our case we are covered fine in defence but a little thin in the ruck, [ie injury prone]

One has won a best and fairest, one has twice kicked 50+ goals in a season as his sides second forward, one has kicked 50 goals in a Premiership year.

One hasn't.

Lucas. I'm sure people will go on about how important Rocca is, but that doesn't make him a better footballer. And at the moment Lucas is pretty damn important to

Lucas can play in more than 1 position and he has a decent looking woman unlike Rocca :D

Lucas will be pretty important this year without Lloyd, although I think he is more value at CHF because of his mobility and massive left boot. They'd be hoping to get Laycock back soon because one of he or Hille will have to go forward to help Lucas out.

Hate to say it but Rocca.
Lucas is an handy player and despite Longy's stats which are important, I don't think he's as important to his side as Rocca.
Rocca was badly missed by Collingwood in the 2003 GF.

That doesn't make him the better footballer.
For example, Hird has been our best footballer for years, but most at Essendon would say Fletcher has been our most important footballer. Likewise Rocca the most important at Collingwood, but Buckley the better footballer.

Your importance to your side is not a true indicator of ability. Importance can be based simply on a lack of depth in a particular position.

Average stats per game since 2000:

Rocca: 12.2 disposals, 5.5 marks, 1.9 goals, 1.7 tackles.
Lucas: 15.7 disposals, 5.6 marks, 1.6 goals, 2.1 tackles.

Lucas wins each of those except goals, considering he spent an entire year in defence during that time, and considerable time at various other stages, i'm going with Lucas...by a heathy margin.

What has the influence Rocca has had on the game resulted in?

I can name one game this year.. 8 goals against Hawthorn.

He was very serviceable against North.. booted three goals and made his presence felt.

A quiet game against your mob.

Will be after goals against Port (Sunday) and Carlton (Sunday week).

This is not even close.

Rocca: Physical, pack splitter, conteseted marker, intimidator, team orientated, works at the 1%ers (shepherds, blocks, knocks on and creates for his teamates) and will chase and work when the ball is on the ground.

Lucas: Players more like he's 5'10, no presence, one sided, shirks contested ball, plays wide of the contest, no 1%ers, won't chase or second efforts and is as team orientated as Terrell Owens (well, maybe not that bad).....lets say his next goal assist will be his first. Also, consistently tries marking on the lead with his chin stitched to his chest to avoid contact from behind.

I was talking more of his overall impact on the club.
Both players have won games for their club. I think Rocca has won two goal kicking awards (30 odd goals each time) player pretty much as Collingwood's number one forward.

Lucas' best season's have been better than Rocca's. Lucas' quiet seasons have been fewer than Rocca's (although injury can be attributed to that)

Lucas is a consistent performer. The gap between his bad games and good games is very small. With Rocca it's rather large.

I'm convinced you have never seen Scott Lucas play. Scott Lucas works harder on the field (and more often) than any other player on our list.

I've seen plenty of Lucas and many of my hardcore Essendon mates agree with me.

Lucas is not blessed with great speed but watch him this week and the difference in pace he shows when running to space as compared to chasing an opponent.

He is a fraud of a CHF. He is a 6'5 outside flanker........a goal crummer would starve playing at his feet and not because he takes marks.

I am not an Essendon hater.....huge fan of Jimmy (second best player I ever saw - after Matthews) and Lloydy (yeah he dives....but he lead hards, physically imposes himself on the game and is very unselfish).

I just can't stand to watch a 6'5 big bodied player listen to tip toes and provide no physical presense.

Lucas was 4th (behind 3 midfielders) at the club for tackles last season.
He's been in the top 10 at the club for tackles every year since 2000. Three times inside the top 5. So you stick your "Scott Lucas doesn't tackle or apply physicaly pressure" theory where it fits.

He averages more tackles a game than Rocca.
