FACT: It is safe to travel in and out without hotel quarantine when you are vaccinated.

SOLUTION: If you want to **** off and travel you can skip the queue get vaccinated. People who don't want to travel don't give a **** and can wait .

There is no issue. Literally no issue except inpatient political hacks

Pretty much. Make your choice at your own risk, and don't expect others to make allowances for your choice.

I'm more than happy to take my shots and jump on a plane. There's no reason my freedoms should be blocked because others are fearful.

It is all they ever had

How is this for good economic management? Very good if you are inside the tent 🤔

Uh, wtf?

This alone should see the government fall and everyone involved thrown in jail. Instead it will be buried and forgotten.

This goes well beyond partisanship and party cheerleading. Australia is sick.

Is there anything that politicians wont use as a political tool? Playing games is their bread and butter.
Sadly, I have to somewhat agree on this. But the person I was replying to is not a politician. I think people should be better than that

Yet you defend the bloke responsible for people losing their lives and livelihoods.

Go figure!

But given the current state of Covid in Australia compared to the rest of the world, no, rushing through a vaccine is not the most important thing for us to do.
I would hardly call myself a staunch defender of Daniel Andrews. To be honest I take the view that if you are to criticise on some mistakes that he may have made, you must also give credit for his government’s successful handling of the second wave after. I defend him against those who seek to put the blame solely on him, although I acknowledge that as leader he bears ultimate responsibility. Since this is the Morrison thread I will move on as to not derail the thread, and address your last sentence.

I think it is vital and of utmost importance that we do secure the vaccine, and have it ready for people who wish to take the shot. Yes, compared to the world we are in a great position, but as we all know the virus doesn’t go away until it’s gone away everywhere

They’re really keeping the auditor general busy. Dodgy. Luckily they’ll gut jobkeeper and ndis to save some money though

Canstruct, a Brisbane-based company and Liberal party donor, won the contract by limited tender, meaning there was not an open and competitive process to secure the initial contract. The auditor general criticised the process, saying “it is not clear why the department could not have secured a replacement supplier using a more competitive procurement method

What would that be, and which recent government do you see living up to that ideal?
I would say Maslow's hierarchy of needs as applied to the nation is the criteria. The bottom rung is about basic human needs like food and shelter. The government should first and foremost ensure as few people as possible fall into the position where they can't afford to feed or clothe themselves. That means doing what it takes to protect people's livelihoods during economic hard times. (I think they should go beyond that and ensure nobody is homeless or impoverished, but neither of the majors actually want to do that, so let's move on).

Next on the list is safety: crime, healthcare, natural disasters, Covid. Keep the population healthy and safe, ensure people are taken care of after natural disasters, do the necessary preparation for emergencies and basically just don't f*** it up.

The remaining steps on Maslow's hierarchy of needs are a little harder to draw parallels to in government, but I'll try. Next is love and belonging, which I suppose can be tied to cultural change, trying to build a more empathetic society where there's reconciliation between races, and reaching out to groups that feel marginalised so they feel included. The government should of course lead by example in this field if they want the people to follow.

Next comes esteem and status, giving us all something to be proud of. Basically, don't be an embarrassment, work on the things that might stop us being proud of our nation (eg human rights abuses, environmental impact, corruption, injustice) and give the people freedom and dignity.

Lastly, there's self-actualisation, or being the best we can be. I think this involves outlining a vision of what the country can become in the future and working towards it. National goals, if you will, like Kennedy's plan to put a man on the moon within a decade.

I think Scummo and his government have a mixed record at a lot of these things and outright failures in others. They at least made a decent response to the economic conditions brought on by the pandemic, by increasing welfare and creating Jobkeeper, but now they're withdrawing them before we're out of the woods. Going to Hawaii during the bushfires wasn't good, but it was just bad PR really, rather than any substantial screw-up, although Shorten's planned water-bomber fleet would have been very useful.

They shirked the responsibility of quarantine and handed it to the states, knowing the public ire over any screw-up wouldn't fall on them as a result. Bad in terms of responsibility but good for getting re-elected, since the politically apathetic public largely did blame the states. But now they've buggered the vaccine rollout, which the public are not going to forgive them for.

They've done nothing I can think of with regards to love and belonging. If anything, the boys club in their ranks has made women more convinced that the power structure is against them and their safety.

The big failure has been with esteem and status. They've handled the sexual assault scandals incompetently from start to finish, becoming an international embarrassment and making Australians, particularly women, feel utterly disgusted. They're clearly hoping it'll all blow over, but I'm not sure it will. People have long memories sometimes.

And I've never seen any hint of a future vision from Scummo, but most Australian governments at all levels don't bother with this. The last time I can remember a PM outlining a future vision was Rudd talking about a big Australia, which didn't go over well, because most people haven't consciously experienced benefits from population growth, but they have experienced the strain on infrastructure because governments have underinvested in it, and we've had decades of the media scaremongering against brown people. At least Rudd tried to build infrastructure with the NBN, but he didn't spend too long in power.

Several governments have met each of the first four needs, but vision is rare in Australian politics. To find a government with a future vision that actually resonated with people, we probably have to go back to the Hawke era, which was about bringing Australia into the modern global economy. Before that, perhaps Whitlam, who is the only PM I can think of who was willing to make systemic changes to meet human needs. He started the national sewerage program, made healthcare and education more accessible to all, ended the White Australia Policy, started the concept of Aboriginal land rights and created interstate transport connections. He had an obvious vision.

Why does anyone care about seeing or hearing from the spouse of an elected politician?
I agree, it's utterly silly that people care about politician's spouses. India's PM being unmarried hasn't had any effect on governance. I suppose Scummo invited focus on Jen by mentioning her as the reason he had empathy for rape victims, but there's no need for ongoing focus.

Turnbull may well have been despised as a moderate but at least he was somewhat respected.

I don't think anyone anywhere, including Liberal conservatives, have any respect for Morrison.
I don't think the neanderthals in the Coalition respected Turnbull one bit.

Openly cucked by laming

Lucky he's not a LABOR PM or all hell'd break loose hey !!
newscorp would have wall-to-wall coverage

Scummo will spin it:

In the current environment we're dropping our target of Laming not being preselected.

Yeah and newscorp will be all for it.

And the bootlickers here will rejoice because TAKE THAT LEFTY HURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Its a lot better if he runs for the LNP and loses the female vote and seat, with implications for every other seat too, than if they get rid of him and parachute in a woman and win the seat and pretend the problem is solved

Why does Morrison refer to it as “the greatest generation”?

1/ it does not give the current generations much credit or hope.
2/ Jesus must be pissed - what was wrong with his generation?
I think it is the generation terminology. The one after is silent, then boomer, then gen x,y etc

Should say "leave in plastic packaging as contents are most certainly toxic"

I thought Australia was better than this image - how has this happened :(
