Scott says we aim to improve. How?

My veiw:

Backline: Is about as good as it's going to get. No surprise with the amount of experience there. Just keep doing what they're doing.

Midfield: Where losing clearances consistently but there is an obvious reason. We are rotating more players through that are not as good as Corey, Bartel, Selwood which is costing us clearances. In exchange for that we are running out games much better than our opposition. We seem to dominate final quarters which IMO is worth the trade off. Guys like Johnson, Stokes, Duncan & Varcoe with more experience in the middle IMO will get better. I wouldn't mind betting we can significantly improve clearance before the end of the year.

Inside 50's: It's been a little bit poor this year but we're starting to find ways to improve it. Selwood, Bartel and Menzel across HF has improved the quality of inside 50's while Vardy, Pods, Ottens seems the best combo for talls. I think it will begin to look better and better.

Forward Pressure: I think this has been our biggest weakness this year. If we get opposition players to rush long kicks I'd back our defensive zone to smash the opposition. We just haven't been consistent. Sometimes you see it click and it's a nightmare for opposition but those moments are fleeting. Vardy needs to improve as does Varcoe's.

Players that can lift:
S.J: Conversion been poor, getting better
Pods: See S.J
Varcoe: Workrate way down
Chapman: Workrate down slightly
Mackie: Disposal been off, has been a little soft at times
Byrnes: Need him back, would be a great sub I think.

Agree on all this except Pods - I think he's rediscovered 'it' in the past few weeks. He was great against Collingwood but his kicking was woeful and couldn't get near the ball against Carlton. He was clearly BOG against Hawthorn two weeks ago and in our best 6-8 against St Kilda, and more importantly he kicked relatively straight in both games.

Varcoe and Chapman are the two for me - if we can both fit and firing by the finals we will be looking very strong. Both seem hampered by injury/fitness concerns and aside from a couple of cameos neither has been at their 2010 level.

We can improve, as every team can, but whether we do or not in time for finals know one knows. I'm sure Scott is working hard at getting things right, because it's all about the finals, no good playing your best now. I'm fairly confident that we will go up another gear or 2 come finals, our best is still to come.
