Should have beaten Richmond, didn't.
Should have beaten Essendon, didn't.
Should have beaten Kangaroos, didn't.
Should have beaten Carlton, didn't.

I don't want to hear about future, and positives, or any other garbage we go on about. FACT!!! ... we are losers. End of story.

I'm dreading what the good sides will do to us :(

Very disapointing!

Really missed Johnny Barker's presence tonight.

Credit to the Blues, but fair dinkum, the Umpiring was just discraceful!

Agree, but only to an extent.

We definately should have won at least 3 of those 4 games, and showing 'spirit' is all well and good for just so long. When you can't hit a target by foot at AFL level though, there is certainly something wrong.

However, having said that, hopefully the rest of the season is character building for a number of our new players...however losing all the time is not going to do a lot for confidence, self-esteem and possibly - dare I say it - loyalty. Hopefully the young guys stick with the club through these rebuilding times.

i'm not sure about you guys, but i think allister's coaching at 3QT had a lot to do with the loss. the last thing i dreaded was playing a close tight game all match and then it all coming down to the wire. of course one worse had to happen - we were up at so much at 3QT and yet it still had to come down to the wire. how much can we as supporters take? i mean i simply cannot bare spectating these heart wrenching losses. i'm to have to simply just check to results of the matches at their conclusion now. to the frustration is just too great and quiet frankly not worth it.

Yeah, season over, but we knew that before it began. We're a bottom 4 side and we've been more competitive this year than anyone would have expected.

That's the positive. What hurts though is that, without the exception of Sydney, we could have won every week this year. Four near misses is just not good enough. Young side and poor umpiring can excuse one or two, but not four. Very disappointed tonight. Carlton are not a good side and we played terribly from quarter time onwards. Hodge was light on for support tonight and he couldn't get us over the line himself.

Can we please stop that .....

We have missed Barkers presence since 2001 :(

Well, extremely disapointed. We had it and couldnt finish it. I dont understand how people are sayin the umps were good, they were utterly discraceful!

Crawf- I thought was good, you guys are expecting a heck of alot from this bloke after being out for a year with 2 injuries. Hes not gunna be the dominant force he once was, but he put in and did alright IMO...

Vanders - quite ordinary, tries his heart out, but does too much at times.

Changa - Was pretty good until he slightly hurt his shoulder, he gets a pass for this game.

Osborne - Apart from silly frees, was excellant. Provided run and took some nice grabs, best game of the year for him, no doubt.

Browny - Continued to go well IMO, was exposed a couple of times, but still as acceptable.

Hay- terrible terrible disposal, but wasnt too bad.

Croad- Towelled Whitnall until Hay went on him for that little spurt, but was in our best.

Smith- Coming back from injury, i can excuse him, gave us some drive, but was well beaten.

Hodge- HELLO!!! GUN..

Williams- didnt have too many opportunities, but when he did, took them, played well, and leads the Coleman

Thurgood - Great game, dash was good, but last qtr disposal let him down. May get rising star nom this week...

Lewis- not much game time, did ok..

Taylor- i thought was good, got some hitouts against a very good opponent, and took some grabs and tried very hard. Liked his game.

Franklin- Not his best efforts, but people jumping down his throat should be ashamed of themselves.

Dixon- missed a big opportunity, but was pretty ordinary.

Sammy- was quiet in the first half, got a bit of it in the second, but wasnt his best game. Still passable and better than most.

John Barker- really missed him, really! Started well and unfortunetly got injured, Holland will be back now..

Beaumont- quiet, but did some good things, spot in the team may be in trouble..

Miller- Was good, few mistakes but is still learning, set up a couple of goals and kicked a nice one.

Clarke- Cant remember who he played on, but if it was Campo, good job...

Spida- Wasnt his best game, but played forward alot, and still dominated the ruck.

Ries- Ordinary

Spewin we lost!!!

NO...THE SEASON IS MOST DEFINITELY NOT OVER!!

This is what really frustrates me about a lot of the supporters.
We have another 16 rounds in watching our young players develop...and whats even more positive is that we are yet to even catch a glimpse of what Roughead, Little, Murphy and Boyle have got to offer...same applies to Lewis and Buddy!

Oh...and lets not forget Hodge (LUV THIS BLOKE), Sammy, Willo, Thurgood, Brown, Changa, Ozzie, Ladson (all under 22 years of age or thereabouts)!

Before the season started EVERYONE had just one simple wish, and that was for us to play each game with heart....not really caring as much about the final outcome.
Well apart from round 1, the boys have given us just that! But now everyone wants to have a crack at them bc we lost by ONE goal tonight!!! Well thats wat comes with inexperience!

I look forward to watching us play each week bc i know that we're going have a red hot go...and up until now, no one can complain.

And as for AC, ffs he's 6 weeks into his first ever role as head coach. He's experimenting with game tactics and with his personnel...Im not going to say anything else apart from the fact that its stupid for ppl to bag him already.

Whats the bet that the same ppl who are giving it to AC and the players tonight will be praising them in a couple of years time after our team has gelled into a premiership contender...

Bring on the Eagles!

Umpiring was absolutely dreadful in the first half and allowed Carlton back into the match.

What I hated the most was that we played along the boundary. We have been at our most exciting and damaging when we have gone straight up the guts. Seem to have lost the ability over the past two weeks.

In the end Carlton wanted it more and this was evident in the numbers that they had around the ball.

As Adelaide Hawk said we shoulda but we didn't.

Very harsh call!

This wasn't really a game of master stroke coaching moves it was a dour struggle between two ordinary sides.

The reason Carlton probably got up in the end is due to Pagan having been there 3 years and having a chance to instill his never say die attitude.

And i think 6 weeks in and with a club full of kids AC has to be given at least 3 years as was Pagan to show how he's moulded this squad together and instilled his own brand of team spirit.

He came through the Denis Pagan system so i think he will turn out to be a good coach given the right time and patience.

couldnt agree more the umpiring was absoloutely terrible and unfair on ur boys
at the time i wasnt fussed and juz happy the calls were going our way by thinkin back on it ur rite that the umpiring was horrible.

You can't be too disappointed. Hawthorn gave it their all.

The Hawks may be close to zero on talent, but they're a 10 for spirit and fight.

Carlton were sh !thouse bar the last quarter.

I go all the way with posts by PAOKTSIS and LukeHodge15 but for those posters giving up on our team and coach as they, to my mind, commence rebuilding and trialling in an impressive, I repeat impressive, manner.

Crikey, really, if our team gave up as easy as some posters in this place, well the club may as well close down.

Please!!! The team needs you to support and encourage, be an example - DONT GIVE UP!!

Yeah another game that should have been won.

Lets look at the coach's experience
round one

Roos 60 games Clarkson nil

Wallace 150 games Clarkson 1 game

Sheedy 570 games Clarkson 2 games

Matthews 380 games Clarkson 3 games

Laidley 50 games Clarkson 4 games

Pagan 290 games Clarkson 5 games

In short Clarkson and the Hawks have been against the best coaches in the business. Steep learning curve.

We fell over pretty badly across our half forward line in the second half. Our ball delivery to Williams has been excellent, but if we keep going to him every time other teams will take note of this and find out ways to shut him down.

I think checking out the stats we only had 2 kicks for the night head to the goal square, where Spider was lurking. Something we need to execute more into our game plan.

I would like to see Cambell Brown move back to the forward line, I think our defence is currently stacked but our forward line lacks. Would love to see Croad spend some time in the forward line but not sure if I want to see our CHB position disrupted.

Maybe, had chances, they had way more scoring shots.

Should have beaten Kangaroos, didn't.

Similiar to Essendon game from my pov.

Should have beaten Carlton, didn't.

Yep.

Fine, if you want to mantain that sort of thinking that you bemoan is exactly what is wrong with the playing group, your choice I suppose.

I'm dreading what the good sides will do to us :(

Why? We're not a good side, why pretend otherwise. Very young, very light on for quality, way off the pace of the good sides.

A couple of quality 18y/o's and a new coach wasn't ever going to turn around the troubles that have plagued us overnight (read one season).

We lost by a goal, had some terrible (especially the first half) decisions go against us and were unlucky to lose a crucial part of the forward structure (Barker) early.

Wasn't our night. We'll go through a lot more of 'not our night/day' before we start getting regular wins up.

Disappointed with the loss but it's not the be all/end all of what the club is trying to achieve.

Have to agree with everything that uve said. i was at the game, and obviously u dont always see wat the calls are for, but when we did, there were some shocking calls. Questions need to be asked about the quality of some of the umpires goin around, all i ask for is consistance.
Seem we mucked around with it to much, sure it worked against Brisbane, but when we played quick and direct we looked good, instead we kept goin out to the wing and then fumbling it.
And yes in the end carlton went into the last quarter to win it,while the hawks went to safe it.
but im still spewing, we keep comin close and cant finish off a game.

I'm sure that some of the posters here were just as gutted as my family was last night on a game that we should have won. I'm also sure that most of the posters that are having a whinge will stick with the team as well.

Heck, if you can live through the last ten years and still follow them then you have to either be passionate or you've got access to a computer at the crazy farm. :)

I was obviously disappointed that we didn't get over the line but, rightly or wrongly, I was still really happy with our boys and the progress they are making. Some people may think that's accepting mediocrity and that we shouldn't be satisfied with anything less than a win, but I thought we showed plenty of spirit and had a real crack again. Once again, a lack of class probably was the difference but that will come in time, given the young talent on the list. Individually, all the players we need to be improving and continuing to develop are doing so. Hodgey, Changa, Sammy, Willo, Browny, Croady and the pups in Buddy, Roughy, Lewis, Harry, Taylor, the orange Roughie. They all seem to be coming along really well and gelling and playing as a real team together.
Maybe I've donned the rose coloured glasses but there's nothing but optimism from where I sit.

The Sky is falling, The sky is falling!

Calm down.

Comapred to last year these kids have given us our money's worth ten times over.

Its a year of watching these kids develop and become better
and more experienced with every game.

My friends were gutted on Fri night, but i knew that the Blues would over
run us. It comes all down to experience. and these kids havent got that yet.

But they will. and when they do, watch out AFL.

I can see it, its on the horizon, we just all have to be patient.

and just for the record, we will beat the eagles this week.
Another close one, hard fought and we will get over the line.

Go Hardcore Hawks!

I'm far more excited at going to watch matches this year or on TV simply because we are having a dip and the new kids are being played.

I am not as frustrated at the close losses simply because the whole team needs to develop as a team. They are doing that. We expected this slow start after all.

I just want evidence at every match that most are trying their hearts out and that we can find something new to look forward to.

That's all, it ain't over till it's over.
