From here on, we're getting a Friday Night and a Saturday Prelim.

Week 2:
Friday Night: GWS v Port/WCE
Saturday Twilight: Geelong/Richmond v Sydney/Essendon

Week 3:
Friday Night: Adelaide v Geelong/Richmond/Sydney/Essendon
Saturday Twilight: Geelong/Richmond v GWS/Port/WCE

That's how it should be done in theory, will wait and see whether in practice that's the case. AFL may want to move Richmond games to Friday night, especially if week 2 is Richmond v Essendon.

The idea of a Richmond v Essendon final never occurred to me, that would be huge!

cant see GWS playing Friday next week

That would mean they go into that game with a 8 v 6 day break which will be harsh especially if WC win Sat. For mine they play Sat to its 9v7 (obviously still 2 days different but at leas the other team has 7 so cant complain)

This then has the benefit of both Semi Final Winners having a 7 day break before the prelim (assuming the Crows are Friday as it now should be to be consistent with rewarding the top ranked Prelim qualifier)

TV ratings on a Friday are much better on a Saturday night right? Unless they opt for the twilight prelim on the Saturday.

Adelaide deserve Friday but wouldn't put anything past the AFL
Either way there will be a game on both days. Can't see the total ratings being that different.

Why do you have the semis like this? Results in 6 and 8 day breaks. Just flip them for two 7 day breaks.

Afl prefers GWS on Saturday anyway.

There's no way GWS V WCE/PA will be on a Friday Night. Ratings, etc plus it probably goes head to head with NRL, plus logistics of Friday Night in Western Sydney are terrible. Could well take 5K off the crowd. Would be crazy.

Plus Gee/Ric V Syd/Ess on Friday means the winners of the semis both have 7 day breaks heading into prelims. So it works better for integrity too. Someone has to get a 6 day break at some stage of this finals series - better to have it leading into a semi final rather than a prelim.

Really hoping for Essendon to get through... I don't think I have ever seen two teams like Essendon v Richmond play off in a grand final. Unlikely we will both get there, but imagine ..
