It can happen however those wanting expansion the most are focused on gross numbers over why people come to our board over others while we've also had to battle minority groups trying to take all the chips for themselves. It's unlikely expansion can ever happen in this era, from within the confines of the Sweet FA.
Thanks for the reminder to renew my semantics monthly subscription.Except the league isn't overflowing. Two of 12 teams aren't generating enough interest to keep people coming back each week.

The Roys are a fantastic example of a team that is enjoyable to banter with for a week because they have 4-5 people consistently engaging with their opponents for the week with a handful of others poking their heads in here and there.
The numbers are there. People are just focused on the wrong numbers.

Funny thing is, it's the exact same arguments when the league expanded from 8 to 10, then 10 to 12, and the league wasn't as active. Yet the world didn't collapse. It's quite amusing.
Barrybran Personally I feel that the question of "why people come to the board" is a low impact factor, as we don't have stakeholders/shareholders to satisfy. Please guys never lose sight of the fact that it's not a business, it's a bit of fun. It's just a game, and honestly if you take a risk, you can't lose, even if you lose. Even a calamity is a massive plus.I think he means me Mobbs

Geeze man. As soon as you say "road map" I can instantly tell you are unsuited to answer the question.I'm laying out the roadmap and you're choosing to ignore it.
Fun fact time - the strongest advocates for expansion have entered AND exited the league in the past six seasons
Oh dear. Anyway...I'm laying out the roadmap and you're choosing to ignore it.

So you're happy with having a bunch of teams that are fun to hang out with and a bunch of teams that are just names on a page making up the numbers?Geeze man. As soon as you say "road map" I can instantly tell you are unsuited to answer the question.

Yes, and content is bloody awesome.Content is the answer. Give people a reason to keep coming back week after week.
It's only my opinion.1. So you're happy with having a bunch of teams that are fun to hang out with and a bunch of teams that are just names on a page making up the numbers?
2. Mobbs, some of your best work this season has been your Minecraft real estate content. Content creation attracts people. It gives people something to talk about. If you have new content each week, more people are attracted and stay interested.
3. There is room for expansion but creating new teams that are just names on pages is not the answer. Content is the answer. Give people a reason to keep coming back week after week.
4. I'm not talking about Bomber levels of hyperactivity here. I'm talking about things happening and people having fun opposed to an extra match for the sake of having an extra match.
What the **** is this doing in this thread?

Season 31 was the first full season for the Baghdad Bombers with Antonio BlueVein at the helm. Season 31 had been a very successful season for them posting-wise, despite the loss of WaynesWorld19 (164 ppw in S30) midseason due to retirement - the question was whether ABV would be able to keep his list of vagabonds motivated. His off-season cuts saw the usual plethora of failed rookies turfed, but the two losses that would be most keenly felt were Mozzie19 (113 ppw in S30) and ArdentEagle (6.5 ppw in S30) to the Wonders. They had some big ins though, in the form of BLUEALLTHRU (124 ppw in S30), RobR (114 ppw in S30) and The Jesus (8.9 ppw in S30) to compliment the next batch of rookies.
At first glance things look really good for the Bombers: they had four players averaging over 100 posts per week for the season, and 11 averaging over 10 ppw. ABV's output increased from 103 to 117 ppw, Jabba73 (61.4 ppw) was a successful rookie, Bovo was a revelation after a quiet first two seasons (from 10.8 to 24.6 ppw). Kilroy's drop in activity from 161 ppw last season to a more moderate 53.5 ppw was probably for the best too.
But there were some concerns: the huge numbers generated by ABV, Pugsley (128 ppw), RobR (132 ppw) and BLUEALLTHRU (129 ppw) masked a reduction in the depth of players at Baghdad. The average number of posters per week dropped from 16.25 to 14.06, and the shadow of Banhammer made an impact on their output. Santoz (65.3 ppw) was permabanned after Round 8, whilst BLUEALLTHRU, MITS and miggs all had enforced holidays. Recruit The Jesus (5.6 ppw) was barely sighted after Round 8, TheCoach (from 44.4 to 0.5 ppw) only made one appearance prior to the finals, miggs (from 21.8 to 2.2 ppw) was not as engaged, KohPhi (from 22.4 to 5.2 ppw) had long absences from the league, and CALL ME SNAKE (from 12.8 to 3.9 ppw) wasn't seen for most of the season. The culmination of all this occurred in Round 12 when only nine Bombers appeared in their match thread - a season low for the entire league! The remainder of the rookies also failed to fire, although there were some promising signs from Here2tellyouwhy (5.1 ppw) over the last three rounds. Ultimately having 10 players on their list with less than 10 posts for the season is a bad look.
So by no means a disaster for ABV, but there are a few cracks that he'll be looking at filling in over the off-season. He can't expect his Top 5 posters (with 71.94% of the Bomber posts) to sustain those numbers if the Bombers want to continue being the big posting number side of the competition. A cleanout of the dead wood at the bottom of his list, a few less visits to Banhammer, and two or three recruits to replace the aging and increasingly jaded veterans of Baghdad are what should be his priority.

Club by club analysis. Bombers were first up.What the fu** is this doing in this thread?
It's only my opinion.
1a. That's what it is. If the Sim continues to run, then low participation doesn't damage anything. 1b. Numbers spread out - people see better opportunities in empty teams. While there are back pockets who post, we have too many people in too few teams.
2. And this is something that I went into thinking it will entertain me, and if anyone else is interested, well, that's cool too.
3. The competition IS names on pages. Content is simply added value. I do agree with you that just "creating new teams {that are} names on pages" is not the answer. But this is hyperbole. Vampires, Serpents, Trolls were all valid submissions (admittedly all got reasonably close). Maybe they'd have struggled, maybe they'd have stretched the league too thing, but none would have been just names on paper.
4. I understand you.
But again none of it answers my one main argument - what is wrong with going off half-cocked, in a silly fun simulation league? Looking back through the seasons, the competition simply isn't interesting to review anymore. There used to be comings and goings and formations and mergers and foldings and renaming. Now it's stable. Stable like the grave. Again, this is my opinion and how it feels to me, I don't expect it to be popular - It's like playing a PvP and sitting in a storeroom for hours resolute that "nothing can go wrong now!"
Take a risk! Let the dice roll. And for the love of god stop planning and modelling everything like our livelihoods depend on it!

This is coming from the perspective of a S30 Rookie and part of the S30 Expansion bids, so please forgive me if I'm saying anything out of line here--
I think it's important to look at the recruitment of rookies from season to season regarding the overall "health" of the SFA. New voices, new ideas and new opinions are one thing that can keep the SFA from becoming stale. Unfortunately it has appeared that the S31 Rookie class is smaller than recent rookie classes and overall less engaged with active participation. What made previous rookie recruitment drives more successful?
In S30, I believe the Expansion bids (The Vampires & the Serpents) did an excellent job in recruiting a wide range of posters into the SFA and Millky95 & haydo should be congratulated for that. Between them they recruited Supersuns T2B_ MC Bad Genius VandoHawk Bradesmaen Muddiemoose tony & myself to the SFA. That's 9 regular contributors to the SFA across four different clubs, some of which have now graduated to club LG's.
Expansion can help with the improvement of the league as a whole, I just think we need to rethink how it is positioned. Instead of it being behind closed doors for months, it should be out in the open. Either way I think it's way too late for an Expansion Club for S32 to be proposed, however if someone was serious about adding a team for Season 33 (so Jan 2022), I think they should be looking at announcing themselves now, make their unique brand identity known and starting to recruit rookies that can participate in the S32 Season with established clubs on "loan". There is already Bid Continuation rules in place that allow rookies to freely move to expansion clubs in their second season and would not only increase the rookies in the SFA (because expansion captains more naturally look further and wider than established captains), but also increases the legitimacy of a S33 Expansion bid if they can point to 10-12 current players who can represent them in the future.
Lol, I think we missed the boat on that chance, the Gumbies are strong as all hell both on and off the field now. #****youbarrybranAre you saying I can finally fold the Gumbies?
Marlowe's team salary cap idea can finally be implemented!I believe the best way to promote growth in the SFA is to treat it as much like a serious business as possible. The Admin role should be renamed the CEO of the SFA and no expansion plans should be considered unless the Committee can ascertain that there is money in the league budget for it.
