I’m all ears, mate ….

…. and this had better be good.
I was using sarcasm to highlight the point that post counts are a poor metric to measure posting strength.
I did this by way of example, a very common way to illustrate a point.
Clearly the amount of posts someone makes has an extremely low relevance to who we think makes the biggest contribution to the board (the criteria for the Beez)
Yet in this thread we are using the amount of posts a team makes as the criteria of strength of a team.
We see the folly in using this when rating the individual, but seem blinded when assessing the team.
I hope this helps you to understand.

( In case you missed it, which seems probable, this post too has an element of me being facetious, but my point stands)

I believe serial_thrilla was genuine in his offer to your Captain to add a qualitative assessment of each team’s posting.

We’ll see if Barrybran takes it up I guess, but it’s clear the whole assessment process is difficult.

Perhaps the best you can do is make sure all teams have equal voting representation, just as happens with the Beez and the EKA.

I am hoping the same will be an integral part of the Rising Star voting each year.

I think that the post numbers have their place.
I feel the commentary is way too skewed to more is better.
The terminology used all lends itself to that idiology
That ideal is completely flawed.

It will certainly be interesting to see how ST assesses the Roys as you’ve had some glowing references on your posting this season.

We are in a mild transition period, we have lost some good posters and hopefully have picked up a few good new ones in recent years.

I have an idea for it

On measuring quality, for the S30 Rising Star we had a 7-player committee from 7 different clubs that not only painstakingly analyzed the posts from every rookie, but justified its decisions on what was good each week.

It’s all registered. People were free to read and comment. We didn’t want to hide anything, because the purpose was to help you, Kilroy, and all S30 rookies understanding the league.

We established a common standard quite fast, despite our natural disagreements. But commitment is hard to achieve. That’s the most difficult part of the process. You saw that when the Rising Star was passed on to you.

Don’t want to overload people.

I think self-interest is only natural in such a situation. Clubs will vote for their own and are best motivated if they have a say in the outcome.

While a group analysis is a noble idea, I think people will have different ideas on what they reckon quality looks like.

This is the post I have had the most pleasure in writing in this forum. Since it’s related to what we have been talking, I’m taking the freedom to post it again:

THE S30 RISING STAR AWARD

A NOTE FROM THE COMMITTEE

The S29 Rookie Class received the task of organizing and executing the S30 Rising Award and has taken it with a deep sense of duty. The whole project, as it has been done this season, wouldn’t be possible if it was left for only one person to do it.

It all started during the off-season, with a small group of people. The discussions evolved. Slowly, the award began to take shape – even though, truth be told, no one was sure about exactly like it would ended up looking. The group increased in size and became a Committee, those early ideas turned into rules and guidelines, and, when the season started, the S30 Rising Star was set.

Practically all the 13 members of the Committee have been involved in one way or another. We are very thankful for their help. Nonetheless, as the season progressed, there were 7 participants who did most of the hard work: Bastyy, Chipmunk, GWS Goose, Santoz, serial_thrilla, Tonga Bob, and, yours truly, GremioPower (respectively, a Fury, a Hawk, a Gumby, a Bomber, a Dragon, a Warrior, and a Rat).

For 16 weeks, we evaluated rookies’ involvement in each match thread, we looked into how they played every single game, and we voted for the best poster and the best qootballer of the round. We also presented the positions they were fielded, announced those who were running for the Gun (qooty) and the Torch (posting), wrote justifications for our choices, and interviewed the winners and their captains.

We did all of that every single week. This is the most astonishing feature of all, probably. Not only it was a repetitive endeavor that lasted four whole months, which we completed along with our real life obligations, but along the way we also needed to deal with the tensions that any collective enterprise naturally generates. And, oh!, we’ve had our fair share of controversies and fights in the Committee – from the first to the last month.

This effort was in good part motivated by our desire in helping the rookies to understand, enjoy, and get involved into the SFA world. Still, it was more than that. It was through these amazing game and community that we, from the Committee, had the opportunity to meet and to know each other. We would not have accomplished it, if we weren’t among friends.

Our friendship is certainly higher now than it was before the beginning of the season. For that, all the work was worthy. We hope that we managed to pass this sense of comradery to the rookies. After all, once the Award Night is over, it will be their job to carry this Sweet tradition on.

We will announce day and time of the S30 Rising Star Award as soon as we have a definition. Moreover, there are some Special Gun awards to be conferred still. Meanwhile, we may share some numbers about the S30 rookie class on and off the field.

Thank you all for participating.

Almost There!

I will never be able to actually put down in words how much I admire what Bastyy, Chipmunk, GWS Goose, serial_thrilla, Tonga Bob, and Santoz have done that season. It was a sight to behold. The post above was the closest I got of doing it.

It’s no surprise that all of them are (or, in Santoz case, were) either captains or members of their club’s LG and have already plenty of accolades from both club and league. They are indeed All-Stars.

Don’t want to overload people.

Who would want that? Overloaded people give up. You will inevitably LOAD people, including yourself; but that’s part of joining any enterprise, isn’t it?

I think people will have different ideas on what they reckon quality looks like.

Of course they will, and that’s good. The challenge is precisely setting a common standard.

We’ve managed to do it not because we all agreed, but we all understood it was necessary. From our differences, we built and sustained a compromise; which was challenged week after week.

We would constantly tweak a thing here and there. It wasn’t always done in peace and harmony; quite the contrary, actually. Whenever we thought we had become a “well-oiled machine,” soon enough the PM would look like a branch of the SFAEW (before the SFAEW was a thing).

Let’s also acknowledged that among the 7 were a Tasmanian, a New South Welshmen, a Victorian, two Sandgropers, and two foreigners (a Pom and one to which English isn’t his first language). Yet, instead of breaking apart, we kept finding ways of going on.

Of course, it’s hard. We know it. If it were easy, I wouldn’t have been in awe; let alone still be in awe after a full year since we’ve done it.

This Beez process is time consuming, we should just give it to whoever made the most posts.

If a Bomber deserves the beez, power to them. They do actually have some decent posters.

Yep. Rob R CursingFijian and Antonio BlueVein are terrific as is Tinman when he is not in banhammer. I reckon some voters from other Clubs will also bid fond and respectful adieu votes to Uncle Tones and KohPhi.

Veiny’s Fun Facts #2178

The Rob R you mentioned was inadvertently added to a clandestine PM many moons ago. He hung around for a couple of days, pinched a few of my recipes, and rode off into the sunset.

He hasn’t been the same man since…

Oh, my…
tony has finally caught RobR!

I had warned him. I was hoping I could have been mistaken. So much potential…

Damn!

Don't worry about me mate. I'm happy with life.

You do not get this joint, do you Mr Bolsonaro?

(now that is trolling!)
I do get this joint. It’s you that don’t get me.

Oh, you think mess is your ally. But you merely adopted the chaos; I was born in it, moulded by it. I didn't see order until I was already a man, by then it was nothing to me but imprisoning!

Never said they didn’t Baz, just basing the fact that if it came down to post numbers for the beez, more likely than not a Bombers player would win. Or it’d be Pickitt
