A post on another thread got me thinking (although i would like to think the answer is pretty obvious).

Fitzroy were once one of the main players in the VFL. things went wrong, and we all know the rest of the story.

Collingwood in the mid-late 1980s were struggling badly off field, thankfully we picked up the pieces to have a very strong off field and financially sound club.

Which brings me to the question: if you could have the choice between:
a) A relocation/merger with brisbane, to be called the Brisbane Magpies, and end up winning 3 flags in 4 gf appearance in the past 6 years
b) The path that we ended up with, 2 GF losses, and a few other mediocre years...

I know for me its definitly B.

I know that if and when the "Magpies" next win a premiership I want it to be as the Collingwood Magpies operating out of the Lexus Centre, playing their home games at the MCG.(in black & white stripes)
Anything else would be unthinkable regardless of the success it may bring.

So to answer your question:
B without a shadow of a doubt.

Fitzroy never had that choice. It was merge and virtually disappear, or not merge and completely disappear.

If it was merge or no more Pies, then I wouldn't mind the name Melbourne Magpies.

But realistically there are going to be many other clubs which go first. I think finacially we are safe for now, just wish we had a few more recent flags.

Extremely simple answer for me... I would stop following AFL football.

You will find that it would affect the game all round. I would prefer no more premierships in my lifetime, but at least it will still be the Collingwood FC who most opposition envy & hate...

Collingwood Magpies or nothing. No offense to anyone with a differing opinion, but you are not truly Black & White...

who said i think this?

i was just curious to see if there was anyone out there that did..

quite frankly i wasnt sure if it was possible to get a 100% poll.. (thats why i did it public cause theres bound to be some opposition supporting fool coming here and voting)

and yeah i think i probably would stop following AFL also, just watching with a passing interest when the magpies matches get reported on the news...

didnt we offer to merge with fitzroy??? i think our club said that the only allowance we would have allowed fitzroy was to display a lion on our shorts...this would have been a great merge... collingwood magpies with a picture of a little lion on our shorts.... our club is keeps the AFL going... without coolingwood magpies there'd be at 1,000,000 suppoters with a brokem heart... and a lot more victory converts!

That word merger is a filthy word.Collingwood is the strongest and financially richest club in the afl. There's no way to even consider a merger, even for the sake of a talking point i personally would not follow footy if the pies had to merge .If that happened it would be the end of a tradition which spans over 100 years.Fear not it all comes back to premierships if we had of won either of 2002-2003 this thread would be non existent. So lets look forward to a great recruiting coup and hopefully we will snag some of the best young talent availble, maybe pick up one or 2 players in the psd draft early december which will set us up for a serious assault at a few flags in a few years.Maybe then we will go back to back to back to back.Relive our dawn as the greatest club of them all .can we beat our own record of 4 premierships in a row.Now that's a thread to start talking about. It will happen in years to come!

We couldn’t have merged and relocated and won 3 flags because they wouldn’t be won by us. They would have been won by another team.

True.

Another vote for B.
