We'll we have all been waiting and hoping that Setanta would turn out to be a good player and after many years of heavy doubt the club is finally getting rewarded and the opinions of the fans are beginning to change.

Admittedly he looks underdone at the moment after some time out and has lost some of his edge with his run but he has gained my faith. He's improved his marking which is the main thing and is looking like being that 3rd genuine tall forward next to Fevola and Kreuzer/Waite next year.

I recon all he has to do is learn to use his body in marking contests and to learn to bump players off the ball at ground level and he will become a very very good player. When he starts looking to lay bumps and knock blokes off the ball, this with his pace, size and agility will make him a very good player and a tough match up in the half forward line.

Adds another dimension and decreases the predictability of only having one target. Still does some stupid stupid stuff but so does everyone I guess.

He gets the Juddy stamp of approval so that's good enough for me.

he can go up the ground, opening up the forward line and be dangerous up there, that's what I like about him. That is why he's ahead of Cloke and Fisher.

has some very impressive hands can take a pack mark ..can also go back adds alot of versatility to line up that fisher and cloke dont

Thought he was great in the Cats game. He's an excellent contested mark, and has sensational recovery at ground level - always stays in the play. Think the midfielders are underutilizing him right now though. They should always go to him if he's one-out with his opponent. That strange handball to Judd on the wing was kinda funny though - somes sort of communication error. He actually does some clever stuff, like tap-ons to Fev's advantage etc. He is a very important part of our side headed into finals - adds a lot to our forward structure. It's taken a while, but we're now seeing all the benefits of a long development process. :)

The "play on at all costs" philosophy is going to burn him sometimes*, but it's a good instinct to have - it set-up one of Simpson's goals. Now if only he'd stuck to it when he snared that kick-in.

*his handpass to Judd was still better than Joseph's.

Definately worth the (Jarrad) waite.

I thought he was gone at the start of the year along with many others but he sure has thrown that back in our faces. Let's just hope he continues with this form and builds on his improvement.

He was great - Looks to be moving well, got sticky fingers at the moment too. He doesn't get out marked too often and hits the contest hard.
There will be plenty of opportunities for Betts and co.
Well done to the CFC on sticking by him when plenty of people were calling for blood due to his minor indiscretion pre season that was totally blown out of proportion.

Always thought Carlos could make it and I think he can actually be even better than what he has shown this year. TBH I don't think it's an issue if we only get 3 good years from him. As long as those years come at a time when Carlton are serious contenders the investment will have well and truly paid off.

I think that the team that comes out next year after yet 1 last preseason before our run to the finals will be shy of a couple of faces we have come to expect as regulars and will have a couple of faces (Setanta being one) who were just expected to be fringe players for the club running out as regulars.

With Carlos up front (so long as Fev doesnt smash him again) we will no longer have a one dimensional forward line and with the little fella's running past Carlos and Fev, we will have a very awesome forward line.

It is all looking the goods I think :D

Last year I recall musing what would happen if the MC played him up forward.

Had a feeling he could make a fist of it. Love to see him just plonked there for the rest of the year.

Takes a strong contested mark... one of - if not THE - best contested mark in the side at the moment.

Height, Size, Leap, Aggression... I think we've found a decent CHF for the next few years... until (insert tall 2009 draftee's name here) develops anyways.

He'd be even better if we attacked through the centre, I feel.
For now, I'd be happier if we set up for him to assume the traditional CHF position.

He takes the contested mark, can break packs (if allowed to) and would be a great feeder to the smalls running through.

Good post, he can do fishers role, but take a better "pack" mark. I don't know if he has to feed off as a matter of course(partic when taken on the wing, reduced FOV). The opposition know that is what he will be looking to do, hurt us a few times Friday night as he was picked off. Nothing wrong with taking a good mark and slowing it down, kicking it 50 and creating the next contest in the opp def 50.

By definition a pack mark means that the area is going to be congested, unless someone is clearly running free, just kick the bloody thing into their def 50.

Need to keep playing this guy. WHY? structure, does not give up. Does the little 1% all the time, adds a viable other option other than fev. Which means the oppositions 2 best defender? Is good on the ground, needs to work on his decision making but that will get better. He reminds me of EARL DUKE SPALDING. Cloke and Fisher have not got the athleticism to do the defensive things.

carlos is going well, can only get better as his confidence grows and his understanding of the game gets better
very important at CHF

I can't wait to see him using his body and laying big bumps. A guy that size with that speed and agility that likes to hit bodies is worth their weight in gold!

We should thank our lucky stars that Irish has decided to finally bring it .. And good coachng too , i remember during pre-season hearing ratts say that they saw him as more of a forward .. He could become vital to our premiership dream , if he plays forward all season next year he'll develope into a GUN.. Iv got a good feeling ..
