SFNL Div 1 2025

Amazing turn around for the Hampton Hammers. Was only a couple years back they had 1 team and no reserves and forfeited their position in division 2. now win both seniors and reserves in div 4, go up a division and have an influx of kids for u19s all in the space of 24 months

What’s the drawcard ? Not exactly great facilities and a pristine oval but none the less credit where credit is due to the volunteers who have navigated them to this position

Winning a flag last year moving up into div 3 where there will be opportunity to play 1s football. Can look at the heatherton program where they played plenty of 19s in the 1s. Being a new team also going to be in div 2 19s

St Paul’s couldn’t fill a reserves side on Saturday for the praccy match. What’s that mean for depth Greg Tivendale ?

Sure doesn’t help with a handful of 19s going to Ormond

No issues for Round 1, we just had a lot of the guys not available that week (same as the 1's). Full deck this upcoming Saturday.

Looks like most of their u19's (DOGGIES) have gone to Hampton Hammers. Looking at transfers about 20 plus, not as many to Ormond.
I thought there was a rule about sides moving from club to club. Could be wrong maybe it's the Ammos that have that rule.
Also, a major worry about their seconds, that's what hurt them last year running into finals. "NO DEPTH'

This is true, the coach had promised we had the numbers for our 19's in 2025, didn't deliver so we had to pull the pin. There wasn't 20+ it was less than this, so whomever was left has gone over with him to Hampton. Least they're getting a game in under19's which is great for the players. We hope to see them back in 2026/27 when they can play open age football

Fair Play. Hopefully they return at some stage.

Having been involved in facilitating 18s/19s programs many year ago , I do say as a club you are wasting your time if you don’t have more than 20. Anything less it’s very hard work in the winter then the embarrassment of calling in ‘forfeits’ due to lack of numbers or playing with 16 isn’t benefitting anyone. Merging if possible is a solution but that becomes abit of a juggling act within itself too

How many clubs have 19s submitted out of interest this season?

This was exactly our dilemma. We didn't want to try make it work with very little wriggle room for injuries etc. You need at least 25+ to make a 19's squad viable with school commitments, injuries, senior games etc.

So true Greg, in under 19s you can't have less then 24 or 25 players and you have to make the decision early in the preseason else you string the young players along when they could have an opportunity elsewhere. And St Pauls tried as hard as they could. But it is a brutal industry.

And stuff Glen Eira

Actually Bedders, it's in nobody's interest for other teams to suffer. We should be each other's cheerleaders because we don't want teams to fall over in the region. Glen Eira is a small club, punching out of their weight division in VAFA Prem C, playing against teams with a lot more money and resources. Ormond has won the current round with the under 19 distributions but both St Pauls and Glen Eira both deserve to have under 19s as well and all we are seeing is how AFL is falling off at the under 19 level in the Bentleigh catchment area.

Maybe don't reply to me !

Maybe you should be reasonable to other teams in the area Bedders and not act like an incel.

I still think St Pauls are the smokies this year with Matt O'Brien winning the B and F in the league if he isn't off playing pies VFL.

Yes, we understand and are glad that Ormond has won the battle for the under 19 kids in the area but to be so bitter and hold so much negative energy towards Glen Eira, who are a struggling club in their own right, isn't good for you Bedders.

Every dog has his day hey. They have even let Tony Mokbel, back out on the streets, so you never know what might happen. How bad is the Victorian Judicial System going at the moment?

As for St Pauls, let's hope they do have some depth this year. Towards the end of the year, that was the number 1 factor that prevented them from success and between the top 3 teams at the end of the season, it was very fine margins.

Surely your a parody account and2 faced after you pretended to be Ormond and bagging the combine and now sticking up for them , it's called 2 faced

What? Just cause i'm Ormond through and through doesn't mean I can't want other teams in the area to be successful. I know a few people at Glen Eira, and they are good people. They are a small club battling against large odds. We put them in their place over the u19s and sanity has prevailed. But I don't have to hate them for life. Infact, I respect them. Life is too small to hold grudges.

With the culture as well, the amount of players who stick around after their games (19s, 3s, womans) to watch all games and get a big crowd going (more for home games) shows the love for the club. Big groups behind the goals as well as a full wing down at the arena

If they get the planning through, the netballers will be playing right next to the football ground.

Time to move on from Ormond.

Chelt v Dingley should be huge .
Some big ins for Dingley no wonder they are flag favourites

Thread number 47 in local footy arguing Ormond v Glen Eira.

Thoughts on the reserves competition this year? Marcus Lavender will be amongst it for the medal at the back end of the year, saw him on the news training with Melbourne midfielders over summer

Hate to re hash the Ormond conversation here but I just heard Murrumbeena signed Tom Buckley? Is this true ? I last saw Ormond in 2023 and he was an absolute gun

He hardly played in 23 due to long term hammy injuries , semi retired went on a mortgage trip to Fish Creek and all of a sudden played against Ormond in a praccy last week against Ormond which shocked some . Great bloke and good on him , also 2 others to ST $$ St Pauls
I never started the Ormond talk , it was the parody account

$900 a game talked him out of retirement
See Beena on 45 points for round one and missing following players on 3 points
Holmes
Pollard
Kingi
Corboy
Wright

Corboy Ex Skobs will be a top liner in southern 1. Super get on the eve of the season

Buckley ex Ormond rumour has it ummed and arghed was training most nights, deal put to him was very good and too good to refuse, if you can get that sort of coin you take it, hopefully he has worked on his foot skills and his hamstrings , this comp isn’t D1 amatuers or mid Gippsland.
