Shane Edwards

he wasnt the worst today, but if he has more skill than 90% of our list we are in some serious trouble!

I just think he has some special qualities that you cant teach. Some of his handballs suggest he is one step ahead and, while it seems a bit hit and miss at the moment, it will come more constant and damaging over time.

Hes starting to find his feet.

Do you think Hardwick sees Edwards as a Chance Bateman type? Hard running wingman who takes the game on and can kick/create goals. I thought Edwards was very good in our patch of 3 straight wins. He can be very damaging especially on bigger grounds where he has space and I think he compliments the likes of Cotchin, Martin, Houli, Jackson, Lids, King and Nahas etc. I think when the Doggies beat us they got a big edge by taking him out of the game in the first minute. Think he will only get better and rise as we do.

IIRC he played on Thomas against Collingwood. I see him as our Thomas.

yes he did, and thomas tore us a new one.

i dont think he will get any where near thomas as a footballer

thought he was pretty good yesterday, one of the few that stood tall...

We're in more than a bit of strife when we have to resort to talking up 5th year onballers who got four kicks for the game with every single one of them going directly to an opponent as having 'stood tall' I think, Bo.

But that's just me. ;)

i totally agree. his evasiveness and handball creativity is outstanding. its amazing sometimes how he can get the ball in a pack, create a bit of time and fire out some weird looking handball that is creative is ways most players just cant think of and sets up a teammate to run off.

that said, he should be banned from kicking forever. his kicking is a major problem and his creativity is the only thing that keeps him in the side. time will tell whether this will be able to keep him in the team long term. also he still needs a bit more muscle on him.

Though he got better as the game went on.
Relies on the inside mids getting the ball out to him which was a problem yesterday.
His kicking will always be a problem, especially on small grounds.

Never saw Dick Clay play but I am one of the few that aren't on Shane's case atm. I like him as a player and the persistance Dimma is showing is sensational imo and it has already started paying dividends with his last 2 performances. In traffic he is really clever and also spread quite well. Best 18 for mine.

wallace was also persirtent with players. its easy to keep playing them making a decision on players is harder.

hes clearly one of hardwicks favorites has been given many undeserving games and has shown nothing but ordinaeiness.

Always runs himself into trouble
Never steadies when he kicks
chooses wrong option
Goes to ground too many times
And i dont think he is as quick as we have been led to believe
If we can do a Grigg Collins deal I will be happy.
Crows have too many talls

well said but you can bet defenders of this glass half full player put their heads in the sand when it comes to these things.

Edwards and Nahas for that matter just don't seem to have enough strength in their legs so when they kick it often helicopters all over the place. I think they need to have a serious look into their leg weights training as this would also help their ability to break tackles which neither seem to have.

Wha?

I thought he was alright, not our worst.

Is a great contested mark.

12 possesions and hardly an effective one. this from a 5th yr mid.
yet people defend his performance and say he was alright or he wasnt our worst.
well we just lost a game and his performance was not alright and he was one of the worst.

For sure, i thought hes wasnt too bad today anyway.

Overall he has more skill than 90% of our list and will get a lot better. Just a pity about his size.

this says it all about the team it lacks skill and edwards does not help the situation.

i suppose he will play a few acceptable games in a few weeks time and every feral around here will be proclaiming him as good as well dick clay what a joke.

If you hadn't seen him play this thread would totaly leave you in the dark. Talk about split opinions.

this thread is not about split opinions its about getting people to at the least be honest with themselves.
seems some players or most players for some around here can never do any wrong and never play a bad game.

He looks like he has something but isn't quite there and probably never will be.
He can be clever and evasive but runs himself into trouble and turns the ball over.
Even when he is on the outside and gets the ball streaming forward he will grub the kick and the ball comes back over his head with our forward line scratching their heads.
He is too slight and can't break tackles or stick them.
We have perservered long enough with him and he just hasn't come on.
There may be some interest elsewhere with the glimses he has shown over the years.
Offload him and try someone new.

He has never been any more than a player with promise , but after 5 years all he has done is lose games for us with his shocking kicking & decision making .... We will never get to the top with idiots like that playing for us . Give some kids the chance that he's had and we will find the players to lift us up .

When hes good, hes good. When he's off, hes bad. Everyone (well most) have bad days, but Edwards seems to be struggling to more good ones than bad ones.
With Foley in the team, i struggle to find the space to run both Edwards and Nahas. The trouble is that i alsop struggle to find a suitable replacement at the moment. Even with just 2 of those 3, we give away a heap of height, weight and strength in the midfield. But for the last 2 games, we haven't been able to use their zippiness or their run.
I can't wait until both Conca and Helbig put some weight on, and give us some strength in the guts.

add White. got pushed over in 1/2 of every contest.
Suppose that was what Tommy was in squad for - provide some grunt, but didnt notice it.

liked Shane's game though, good in traffic, mostly, except for the TWO SPUD PILE UP in the bp !

Yeah, forgot to add White. But even Kingy had a pretty ordinary game, so i'm not really trying to single anyone out.
Slops has hit pretty hard late in the 1st quarter or end of the 2nd quarter. (and it wouldn't surprise me if had a 'touch' of concussion)

Edwards disposal is quite good wen hes got his confidence up ive noticed but i wouldnt mind if we traded him off as he can b a weak link too often .

He played in the FP, he had 4 disposals after coming on as a Sub, in the second quarter he backed back into a marking contest and copped a heavy knock, I'm not to sure what you are expecting of the kid while playing out of the FP in his first game back in over a year.

Give the kid a couple of games before passing judgement, seriously poor form judging him off that one game.

not judging, just saying. Wasnt expecting much, though.
Yeah he got hit hard, was a worry, spesh w Astbury already out.
He is sposed to be doing the bashing tho!

fwiw I do hope he gets another run next wk - dont see the point in bringing him in just for 1 game, and he earnt his call up via coburg.
Would love him to get it together and earn a spot.
