I've always been a fan of Coxy, and I thought he had a great game last night. He was precise with his disposal and even popped up for a goal late on. His decision making still needs some work at times but he is a silky mover with skills to match. He should develop into a good flanker type player if he applies himself, he certainly has the goods IMO. Well done Coxy.:thumbsu:

Bumping up his trade value in my opinion. Don't see any room on the flanks at a full strength Collingwood (in a few years time). We have too many half back flankers, and too many hal forward flankers. I know I sound like a broken record, but we need to start trading some of these blokes for access to midfield talent.

Should play out the year and be primed for a trade back to Western Australia.

He is one I would keep, as he showed he can come in to the side when needed and play a role. Every player outside the 22 can't be a developing youngster, there must be depth players.

I think Cox shows the most room for improvement but his attitude at training apparently could improve.

So I think they should work out if he is likely to apply himself more next year. Yes - keep and play him (trade maxwell)
No - trade if half decent offer comes

Many people have argued to delist him. Absolute crap. With 2 or 3 retirees and honest triers but plodders like iles on the list, he cannot get delisted IMO.

Always thought he had all the attributes.

Great skills and a one touch player. But had doubts over his commitment to put his head over the ball.

Credit where it is due though.

Well done Coxy!

Agree with ya King Woodie. We seem to be developing all these flankers and yet its in the middle we need improvement.

Reckon he'll be on shopped around a bit and if we don't find a buyer he'll be kept for 09 to offer up to the GC.

Played with a lot more intensity last night than he did in his last game of AFL. I rate him and thought he was unlucky last year when he got dropped not to get another go. Was fantastic last night and hopefully he can keep up that kind of performance .

I rate him and have been a bit frustrated that he hasn't had more opportunities this year, but I thought his match was only OK. His first quarter was excellent -- his baulk and carry in Q1 was one of the highlights of the match, but his disposal (usually a strength) was a bit off in the second and third. Finished off well in the last, though.

Hope he gets a game next week.

His kicking wasnt precise, he had four or five kicks that went over the top of a leading player or at their feet, as well kicks to players that should of been easy mars that became riskyn due to hospital kicks.

He also short stepped a contest that resulkted in a swan player getting the ball on the wing in the second.

Also who was his man?

Cox was made to look better by the fact we smashed the swans, he was nothing extra special.

While H.Shaw is out he should be getting a game IMO.
Prefer marty and harry doing the role, at least we know they will cover theu man consistently.

Even the sack could do it, cox isnt a defender a rebounder yes defender no

Never really rated him nor liked him. Has this arrogance that just puts me off. Having said that, he did have a good game last night, and has had a few reasonable games this year. Dont really think there is any trade value there so i presume he will still be on the list next year.

I agree with absolutely everything you said.

While he had a good game stats wise, he sold players into trouble on a few occasions which is forgivable for now, and he did put the hand breaks on a few times.

I think when he has the ball at times he still thinks he's in the 2's.

We need O'Brien and Goldsack to cover their men and Clarke can't be relied on as the sole rebounder. I think our side is much more balanced with him in the side.

He looked OK last night. But i don't think he would be a player that would be consistent in the future, there for i think we should look at trading him.

He has not even played 10 games yet, so the jury has to be out. But he can certainly find the ball(unlike everyone's golden boy, Nathan Brown), gives good run(for yardage, he was the second best player on the field last night) and has very good skills. I think he could mature into a very good CHB, which is exactly what we need.

The necessary intensity and desire and accountabilty are a lot easier taught than good skills and being able to find the ball are.

Defenders dont need to get 20 touches defenders need to stop their man from getting 20 touches.

Cox apparntly played on richards rishards is a rubbish player that is why cox wasnt isolated and torn to shreds.

Defenders like brown stop their man and know how to use the ball when they get it (rutten and glass), cox isnt any type of answer in defence and if he keeps wasting kicks and squibbing contests i couldnt careless how many bloody times he touches the thing

It's funny but I've yet to see Cox being torn to shreds at AFL or VFL level yet. Brown certainly is good at the stopping his man bit, but he hardly ever gets it. That's not necassarily a bad thing, but you can't have a whole defence like that, you need rebounders. Rebound from defence is a key to modern football, just look at Geelong.

The guy has played only 10 games and never been bad in any of those games and once or twice (like last night)he has played well. Give him a break. We need players with good skills.

rebound harry, goldsack, marty, shawx2 not enough for you?

Fisher last year and then waite (same game too) begs to differ maybe not ripped him apart but he hasnt excatly played on best second or even third best forwards often has he? Richards isnt A grade. At least our other rebounders offer us teh flexibility of being within a ground length of their man.

Geelong has a good midfield meaning their defence has teh leisure of running off, when a team matches up to their midfield well (like us) what happend they got caught one out or forwards alone. Our midfield isnt that good and if cox was on a dcent player he would be pulled apart like another outside rebounding defender on our list lonie

I would rather O'Brien concentrate on his man first. It doesn't always come together like it has been with such an even spread performance across the board in terms of rebounding. O'Brien is a great rebounder but an even better stopper, the best we have. His rebounding is a bonus.

I am gonna go with Optimax and say that as good as Cox looked at time last night we didn't see or learn anything knew from him. It was a good game in a side that smashed it's opponents and when he played on a pretty poor direct opponent.

I don't think the required intensity and accountabilty are easier taught then good skills, with both it depends on how much improvement is needed and Cox is about as accountable as the common thief in the night. He was always going to look good streaming out of defence when our defence was winning. Hell even if he played as a loose man he'd look awesome. If an opposition gave him a half decent player and tried to isolate I'd back the other guy ever time. We're not always going to have the luxury of having such a lions share of the ball and a defence that is winning the one on one so comprehensively

I agree, Cox is good Offensive weapon but he has no Accountability on his own man.

Other thing going against him, I heard he does not Try hard at training and is like Egan by not always putting in 100% and can go missing in games

Cox played a good game, and I'd like to see him play again this week to assess further. My instinct is that he will go well unless he has to be too accountable, ie. we fail to manufacture the right match up for him.
