Seems Sharrod hurt his knee, just before 1/4 time, then returned and struggled through the 2nd quarter, although he still had 19 disposals at half time.

Early reports suggest a strain or a slight tear in his medial ligament, but the replay only shows a "contact" type injury, which may mean the lesser of two evils.

We probably won't know until tomorrow or Monday when he has the full scans done, but he is almost certain to miss next week.

Hopefully that's all he misses, he was just getting back into top form.

Hope it's ok.

He seemed pretty happy on the bench and was walking around ok. The fact that he came back after the injury is a good sign and I think they only rested him because we were so far in front. If the game was closer I think he might've continued playing but with more bench time in the second half.

I was just about to start a thread on this.

Malthouse in the press conference suggested it was just bruising but they took a precautious approach to the injury given our situation in the game. So it may be something more serious but it seemed he could have continued playing if required.

It was a real shame because he was finally back at his best up to that time in the game - and it had been a wait since his last injury. He was BOG for mine with 19 touches in the first half.

Anyway I hope he pulls up well as he will be very important vs Geelong who he's had some ripper games against in the past.

If he misses it may open the door for Medhursts return. How'd he travel in the 2's?

Mathouse says it is just a bruised knee. Wont be much in it and since the game was already won they took him off just in case :)

It was just before half time, and up until then, Wellingham was close to best on the ground with 19 disposals, 5 tackles and 1 goal. It seems that it was precautionary as he was neither limping or bandaged in the rooms after the match.

Just watched the winners circle on the website, and Sharrod didn't even have an icing or strapping on his knee during the singing of the song, which is a great sign.

All signs point to a contact injury, which means MM might not be "foxing" for once when he says he has a bruised knee.

We still won't know till Monday for sure I'd say.

Even if it was a Medal Ligament strain he would only be out for 2 weeks, 3 at most.

Wellingham is becoming a major part of our outside game with his run and carry, and will be very important come Finals, when foot speed, when games become a tough slog are of increased importance. He's probably our quickest midfielder, and is so important because he has both an inside and outside game, which not many mids have.

The issue I have is that he was fantastic at the start of the season, then had an injury and on his return was not the same player. Now that he was getting back to that same form he has another one. I just hope if he misses a week or two, he doesn't take as long to get back to his top form.

Alan Toovey has said on the Sunday Footy Show that it's just a corky above the knee, should be fine next week.

He was bloody good until he got injured.

Yep, 10 contested possies out of 19 up to half time is a very good going.
Fingers crossed it's something minor.

thats great news then

Well if it is a corky, i can't believe he had no bandage around it and an ice pack or two after the game.

The less bleeding into the muscle the less time it will resolve, geez a grade two kid would have heard of RICE; rest, ice, compress, elevate.

Can only surmise the medical people thought it very mild...but still..

He was off for a full half a match, and he did have his granny blanket on the bench so I assume it was already in hand.

Sherriff, whether it was thought to be a corky or a medial lig or a meniscus ( 'cartilage'), either way he should have had a firm bandage and ice on it.( although ice would be on and off, the bandage would be constant)

After the game, he was clearly seen walking around after the song, with nothing at all on his leg.

Under that blanket, i can't say what was in hand, but it wasn't his injury management, I'm tellin' ya!
