Not sure why so many are so critical of Sheeds...

4 Premierships in 26 seasons with 3 lost Grand Finals...

I would love for the Adelaide Crows to average a Grand Final every 3-4 years.

I think the feeling is that he is past it, not that he never had it. Everyone respects Sheedy's record.

I personally agree with CM's comments - there is no negative for Sheedy here, and a small but real chance of a major positive. If I was in his shoes I'd be saying exactly the same things.

A good Example is Ben McGlynn. Grew up in nsw, and is Playing very well for Sydney after being at Hawthorn. These clubs have the money in their caps so it is something to really consider.

McGlynn is a perfect example of Sydney's system. It excells in getting the best out of mediocre skilled players. Players who will buy into their system and put in, get out.

This isn't so much the go-home factor, he's more an Adelaid eboy than any other club city boy, it's monitary and opportunity.

I would argue against any tilt towards adelaide, very much country. Went through the vic country system but also was a captain of nsw in juniors.

The bit I love is where Sheedy mentions that Mark Williams is an ally with regards to recruiting South Australian players, and that MW is his "in" with such players. As much as I do respect Williams and his coaching ability, Williams would only act as a deterrent to any self respecting Crows player wishing to move up there, especially one like Walker who grew up supporting the Crows.

You mean like how he grew up supporting the Crows, in fact knocked back other NSW scholarship offers in preference for us, his dad played for Norwood too if I'm not mistaken. Who he played for in the U18's means jack shit when you consider he chose to come to play for Adelaide. With underage footy, you have little choice who you actually play for, as it is all zoned, representative stuff.

It is really all a big laugh though, most of it is really just been propagated by the media as it is by Sheedy. They're the ones asking questions like "are you targeting Taylor Walker" and stuff. They must be loving the AFL for bringing in such recruiting rules for the start up teams, the AFL has pretty much handed them a license to print money. They can just make up any crap about any player, say they got the news from a source and will have people running for the hills. They don't need to find any stories, they can just sit in their office and dream up their own.

Didn't he just put his name down and play minimal games for ACT Rams just to qualify for the AFL Scholarship program?Still played most of his footy before coming here with his Broken Hill side.

Also, where has that poster gone that seemed to know Walker pretty well. Tayls or something like that?

Has the club told Taylor to stop posting here?????

Most of the "Walker for GWS" talk seems to be coming from the media, starting with Rucci, so I'm not sure there's really anything of substance there.

But if you look at our experience with GC, Tippett was targeted and got taken care of early. That then left us vulnerable enough to lose Bock.

If Walker really is being targeted (and there's no hard evidence he is), even if we're able to sign him up early by paying him overs, it just leaves us more vulnerable to lose someone else.

That's the game.

We've paid more than we wanted to for Tippett. If left to our own devices we wouldn't have offered Tippett so much money and potentially we're going down the same path with Walker. We're being forced to pay our players more along the lines of their market value, rather than the pecking order / tenure / seniority fairness pay scale we prefer.

At some stage a player will get squeezed out because there aren't the dollars to keep them. When this happens I hope we're able to differentiate between the expendable and the inexpendable.

Expendable: Maric, Moran, Reilly, Symes, Armstrong, Cook, Sellar, Douglas

Inexpendable: Tippett, Vince, Dangerfield, Thompson, Walker, Mackay, Otten, Johncock, Porplyzia, Sloane

Ideally we'd keep most of these guys )both lists) but if dollars get tight (and they will) then I hope we're able to make correct, non-emotional assessments.

The scary thing is that if you switched Expendable and Inexpendable around in your post Carl you will have Neil Craigs list.

We all know what he values in a player.

Thats just crap

Sure he values hard work, but by what your saying, NC thinks it would be ok to lose Tip, Danger over Reilly, Symes etc

That is just a bullshit dig

Never drink and post - it makes no sense.

Could you please enlighten us what Neil Craig values in a player, as you do know, according to the above?

Hard work, 3km time trial, hours spent doing charitable things and having a rocket science degree, or being able to play multiple positions averagely rather than one position very well;)

:D:D

I agree!! Sheedy talks in such riddles Walker would be wondering WTF he is talking about!! :D

...and while I love Walker, something tells me he's not the sharpest tool in the shed....

If Craig confuses him ...

Really struggling to see why Douglas is in the expendable list. He is in another class to the other players you mentioned. I'd probably prefer to lose one of Sloane or Mackay than Dougie TBH, and I'm a big Mackay fan. At least you didn't put VB in there I guess.

I've actually heard a lot of people say they expect Vince to go. Is there any reason for this? He's an SA boy who seems to have a bunch of friends here and you would assume that, given a decent 2011, he'll be on very good money here.

I guess he would be right in GWS's target range as far as age, body etc goes, again assuming he has a good 2011.

And then there's his knees. :(

If reports and innuendo are true, and he has knees similar to McLeod, then he may be in the 'make hay while the giants shine' category.

McLeod was one of the most dedicated and disciplined players ever to wear the Crows geurnsey, which extended his career by five or so years (guestimate obviously). Be it right or wrong, Vince has not shown the same committment early in his career.

I would hate to see anyone go, but in an age of professional sport with a relatively short shelf life as a player, can you blame them??

Was told by a friend in public relations that he wasn't just in SA last weekend to sample the wine at McLaren Vale.
