Found this through google. I did not know who he was. On afl 360 last night mark thompson talk about daisy williams as being one player he played with who had to retire to to brain injuries. Such a shame

IMO, the best game he ever played was the 84 prelim.

Crucial in the 84 GF. Ask Watson snr how valuable he was :)

When i was young, Darren "Daisy" Williams was my favourite player from the Bombers, by a mile :thumbsu:

i took 13, i grew a mullett to look like him ;)

Underrated Legend ;)

Never did a player that I've seen cop so many beltings around the head as Daisy did.

The toughest little nut you'll ever see.

Nope.

I'm only 23 years old. I obviously saw the 2000 flag, and I own the 93 DVD as well.

I've seen 85, but I don't remember much of it.

I just don't get that much enjoyment out of watching old games. Once in a while maybe, but I've only even watched the 93/00 flags twice each.

I'll watch it one day.

Each Christmas I go to friends' place. They are mad Bomber supporters. We watch the 84, 85, 93 and 00 Grand Finals every year. The 00 we get a lot of joy out of watching as another mate who is a Melbourne supporter is forced to endure it.

I made my St Kilda supporting mate watch my 1965 GF DVD after he lost a friendly wager with me over something a couple of years ago.

I think my 'penalty' would have been sitting through the 'streak' DVD. Ha.

But yeah, watching '65 was a challenge. Dat black n white.

Bomber is spot on the money with Daisy Williams. Suffered numerous episodes of concussion which brought a premature end to his career.

great player Daisy. watch from half way through the third quarter to the end of the '84 and he gets clearance after clearance. this day and age he would have got the 3 votes - as we all know NOW that midfielders are the only reason why teams win games ;)

Don't get me started on Leon Baker..!
Was my favourite player after Watson (who rated him hugely), and I was lucky enough to receive one of his jumpers as a present from my dad when I was 15-16...

Im with you, Actually meet him a few years ago in port Douglas through a mate of mine, really nice bloke and was happy to talk about footy

Brereton claims it was a hit he delivered to Williams that finished his career. Tim Watson told Brereton later that Daisy was never the same after the hit. For once I dont think Brereton was big noting.

Finished at 29 so it was more a late start at 23 at VFL than a premature end.

look at the hit he cops at 2.02

Cheers for the video.

Was that Rodney Grinter who cleaned him up? Williams wouldn't be the only one to fall victim to him, Grinter was a certified thug. Disgraceful player.

I grew up watching footy in the 70's - It was a violent decade - According to reports the only decade that was more violent was the 1920's.

yep. no. 14. there were a few thugs at Melbourne during the 80's

I remember seeing a particular nasty one where he gave someone (think it was Richmond's Jim Jess) the nastiest and most savage coat hanger I've ever seen- he actually swung the arm in a full roundhouse arc and then took him out in full gallop.

Smashed his jaw to pieces, I believe.

Terry Wallace, too.

Sheedy puts Darren Williams next to Hird as ruck rovers in the middle for Madden. He obviously rates the little champ above other worthy contenders for the spot like Misiti,JJ,Mercuri,Watson and a few others that could have played in the centre.

Sheedy knew there was something in that bloke and dragged him back from Vermont to star in EFC Grand Finals.

Why then, does the rest of the footy world hardly ever speak his name or mention him as one of Essendon's great players..in an era of domination?

Its like no one outside Windy Hill remembers how good he was.

Why is this I ask?
And they also forget about the Budgie, dont ask me to spell his last name lol.
