AFL NATIONAL talent manager Kevin Sheehan has identified who he believes are the 30 leading prospects ahead of Thursday's NAB AFL Draft on the Gold Coast.
Sheehan confirmed that there were 80 places available on AFL lists for the 2011 season, but that clubs had the option to store late picks for the pre-season draft on December 7.
An additional 32 places will be filled by upgraded rookies, scholarship holders and father-son selections - including Mitch Wallis (Western Bulldogs) - on the night of the national draft.
This year marks the 25th edition of the annual player intake

I'm guessing he's only including U18's so hence no ISmith? (I say that only because I can't see any other mature age players in his top 30 either)

But no McCarthy is very strange...what's up with that?

No Mitchell, McCarthey or Karnezis either.

Not too many surprise inclusions though.

Horlin-Smith and Young probably the only ones that most phantom drafts don't have going in the top 30.

i found whilst punching up my phantom draft that its really hard to squeeze all the players into the first round.

anyone could build a case for those excluded, but nobody could any of the 30 named dont deserve to be there...

Young isn't in most BF phantoms because he doesn't have a YouTube clip. He will go top 30, make no mistake there are a lot of clubs interested in Aaron and rate him highly.

one of my personal favourites, reminds me of wright from north a fair bit, love his competitiveness, finishing skills and ability to always involve himself in the play.

This is the least interesting draft ever.

Usually you have a pretty good idea with most of the first round draft picks for each club. With GC having most of the first 15 picks we have no idea of who they will take on their whims after they get past their first 3 picks.

The draft may well be a good one but it is hardly worth reading about the new kids until your club has actually drafted them.

And to think we will have to put up with this all again for the next couple of years with GWC.

Sheehans opinions are unimportant.

I disagree with this bit. It's one of the more interesting for the exact same reasons - there's every chance of picking up someone who develops into a very good player much later than usual because of the evenness of the draft, GC picking for needs and the depth of the draft. There's also a higher chance of smokeys being taken early and throwing out the consensus wisdom.

Only next year.
