Short-term fix for Dome

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

All this technology malarkey is going nowhere. Just fill the ground with mud and play old fashioned footy, SUBURBAN style!

There would be a DEFINITE home ground advantage, a lot more physical contests and closer games.

Mudcake dome...you know you want it!

It shouldnt take them more than another few years to work out that grass needs light to grow, should it?

After that, another few more years to work out that brickwalls dont let sunlight in, and then it shouldnt be much longer than 2010 before they brainstorm artificial sunlamps.

hmmm

Maybe they need to go and see some underworld figures. After all they can grow plants in cupbaords.

Perhaps giant mirrors are a more viable alternative?

I would much rather see artificial turf (not Astroturf) being trialled first.

Who needs underworld figures, everyone in South OZ and ACT could help you out. :D

The grass is not growing. There are a few reasons - not enough light, cold concrete base among the most important. They are all fixable. Collo and Dimitriou believe there is no problem. Who needs grass to play footy?

The surface is too hard. It is on concrete and players will get soft tissue injuries from running on it. Players will continue to get hurt when they hit the "turf". Collo and Dimitriou believe there is no problem. Who needs players to play footy?

The entry system doesn't cater for the capacity of the ground. Fans are furious time and again when they stand for ages and miss the start. Collo and Dimitriou believe there is no problem. Who needs fans to play footy?

Some clubs can't make enough or any money because the fixed costs are too high. Collo and Dimitriou believe there is no problem. Who needs clubs to play footy?

We have administators so everything else will take care of itself. Imagine footy without administrators who are always right regardless of what anyone else says. That couldn't work could it?

So would I, with the success FieldTurf is being met with at some venues back in the USA.

There was a recent thread all about that-- instead of extolling the virtues of the surface, I'll just post up a link to that thread from last weekend...

Give it a shot-- can't be any worse than what's happening now...

Someone told me about a sports oval version of the creepy-crawly that rolls around a pre-defined area with a bunch of sunlamps close to the ground. how hard could that be?

There's no one I find more repulsive in football then Ian Collins. Since his days at AFL House, his defining characteristic is his contempt for average supporters and players whenever their interests, desires and questions conflict with those of his employer, whether it be the AFL, Telstra Dome or at Carlton.

Most of the time, he doesn't even bother to put up a pretence of a response to a complaint, he just fobs them off with callousness or smugness. And all the while the media treat him the utmost respect!

What a joke.

Someone should just sack Ian Collins as Carlton President and whatever he does at Telstra Dome. The ground has been a pain in the ass from day one and it's still causing problems. I doubt Ian Collins is trying to do anything to fix the problem he is relying on the AFL to fix all the problems. Probably once he is gone from the Telstra Dome the better the ground will be managed.
