Ratts is unlikely to play him in the ruck....... he has done very little (SFA really) as a forward in his 2 NAB cup games, and hasnt looked dangerous in his time up foprward.....should we let him get some confidence in the Ants for a couple of rounds or throw him to the wolves ?

Nah, throw him to the wolves......
anyway, did you really expect him to be BOG for the 2 games he has played in the NAB cup series? I say he's done just as much as what I would expect from a young kid playing his 1st AFL games to do.
Geez..... some people are quick to jump aren't they?
Give the kid time to get a feel for the game..... different pace & pressure than the under 18's you know. He's now in with the BIG TIME.... let the kid settle.
And besides, we are only playing Bitchmond in round 1...... he will get plenty of it ....... :thumbsu:

Who has jumped ?
There is nothing wrong with an early draft pick starting in the VFL, especially when he is an under developed ruckman who is not going to get game time in his favoured position.

I don't want to see Ratts give any players any favors (like Gibbs last year). Sure, we're still rebuilding, but we really need to start winning, and the way to do that is to play the 22 best players regardless of age or draft order.

I'd go with Hampson and Cloke as our ruckman for round 1, and based on pre-season form, that's only fair.

Gibbs was in the best 22 last year regardless of favours.

Yes, definitely. Especially with Fisher out. The forward line structure R1, is going to be interesting. Pretty sure Jake Edwards will debut. So a tall KP forward setup of Fev/Edwards/Kruezer. Not much experience there. I really think we need to play Waite at CHF while Fisher is out. :)

It's already been decided.

I think I heard something on the radio today about Brad coming back into the line-up before round one?

Particularly as a couple of our early games are on the larger 'G' surface i'd be tempted to play him with a roving commission across HF up to wing. He's tank is huge, let's test that theory and see if his opponent can stay with him. Hopefully he can find his way back towards the goalsquare and snag a goal or two. I guess i'm saying play him but play him in a role that suits his strengths as they are at the moment. :thumbsu:

I also think his early games should include minimal ruck work (at least outside ore F50) - leave that to Hammer and Cloke.

Problem being, any smart coach in the league would combat the theory and play a small, quick fella on him as soon as he even looked like breaking out (as coaches are usually cautious of number one picks), only really allowing Kreuz a good chance of possession in a marking situation.

l am not quite sure what your expectation was for Kruezer in Nab Cup but he has shown some good signs considering he has rarely played on regular basis as a Key forward and he is only a 18 year old tall.
l would suggest based on your comments your expectation from him is way too high at this stage.

l would suggest that considering our lack of a quality Centre half forwards he will play sparingly in this role in the first half of the season and probably in one to two years time play more in the ruck.

I didnt have any expectation beyond what he has done.
Your comments that he has rarely played as a key fwd is my point.
If he not going to ruck, with his limited experience as a key fwd and little impact in that role in the NAB cup, is he the best option we have to play as a tall fwd ATM.

I am suggesting we give him 3-4 weeks to play CHF in the Ants, get his confidence up, and then move in to our forward line if/when his form warrants

a little too much
he could get a false idea of the intensity of the big time.

l would suggest he is a better option for us that what we currently have on our list to play as a tall forward, l am sure he will only improve with the experience.

We don't have many other options that you could confidently say will be a better option .

This is my theory with the indiginous boys. They always seem to be stars in their first couple of games, and I believe it's cos they play AFL games as they play anywhere else, they're solely focused on playing footy because its all they know (do not by any means intend for this to be offencive). Now, relating this to Kreuz, he doesn't really seem to be concerned with the politics of the game or care who he's playing for or how he was drafted, he just wants to play football. Therefore I think he will grow into a great player at a rapid pace if he's played in a consistent amount of games. Play him round 1.

Kreuz is quick, agile, good around his feet....and the marking situation is every time they kick it to the them.....so basically he would get slaughtered.

Why not play a little fella on J Brown.....? Would get slaughtered.

If Fish was fit, I may have been leaning a little further towards answering "no".

However, with Fish not playing, we simply don't have enough tall forwards to justify not playing him in round 1.

There is nothing wrong with playing him out of the forward pocket against Richmond. He can even have a few stints in the ruck when Simmonds is being rested because he'll be able to compete with Pattison.

Jonathan Brown has much more experience than Matty, and plays much deeper in the forward line than Matthew would if he were playing on the HFF/wing, an area in which a man could compensate for the small fellow.

It'll be between him and Edwards for a game i reckon. Hartlett will be ready to go unless *touchwood* he gets injured again.

Who would you guys prefer? Edwards or Kreuzer?
