My honest view is that the Captain being a selector does not suit the pampered, precious, selfish Y-Generation - which doesn't actually mean that it shouldn't happen.

Strong men like Ian Chappell, Waugh, Border and Ponting represent the flint-like "gun-slinger" era, when you look someone in the eye and call a spade a spade and sort out your problems there and then.

The current team is just a representation of the "me me me" 20-somethings that are promoted to positions that they aren't ready for as yet and I am delighted that Boof Lehmann has been given a position.......any position!

Don't worry Clarke has got the message loud and clear, the next time someone gets the bullet it will be him unless he starts making a few changes to the way he treats people.

But perhaps the players have to hear a message?

Maybe we need a Border in New Zealand moment.

The current generation of players are merely products of the system that we have in place at the minute, it pains me to say it but largely it's not their fault. I've been ranting about it for quite some time, maybe they might start looking a bit deeper as to what the problems might be.

My concern with Boof taking over is that he might not be able to relate to all of them either, Clarke's role going forward is now crucial, he either stands up as a leader or this will be his last series as skipper.

Who would possibly replace Clarke as skipper?

Who knows, maybe someone will emerge from this mess as the next leader, Smith is probably too young and Bailey can't get a game in the white clothes and it can't be Haddin and it won't be Watson.

Cowan, good head, not sure if he's in our best 11, no to Hughes, Warner and Khawaja. So it would be a race in 3, and two aren't even in the squad.

Clarke is probably lucky there is no challenger or he might have already bit the dust. He'll get an extended run because of it but he's on his last petrol ticket unless he can regain the respect of the entire group. Lehmann doesn't suffer fools or subscribe to spin doctoring, he's a straight shooter and he won't get caught up in politics.

No.

Marto summed it up well. Captain always has a say in the team selected but never should have the final say. The captain is supposed to be the most senior player in the team, at least the most respected. In an environment where players are walking on egg shells in the sheds knowing 1 failure could end them, it eliminates players sitting down and having a chat with the cap about deficiencies/weaknesses in their game as guys think they're potentially helping end their own stint in the team.
