Review Showdown 59

Our midfield should be disgusted for letting plodders like Sam Berry destroy us
Berry probably gets the Showdown medal.
Had this sick feeling from the get go when they dominated all the important stats for almost the entire 4 qtrs.

Should have smashed us, but they were so bad they couldn’t do it, hence my rage that we didn’t elevate our game enough.

The only stat we won was scoring efficiency inside forward 50, which kept us in front for most of the game.

But our continual dumb errors kept gifting them goals and kept those d***wads close.

Hope Josh doesn’t sit them down and tell them to take positives out of the match. Absolutely torch them. Tell they can’t think that close is ok. Tell them we’ve lost one kick games to Eagles, Crows, Hawks and by a couple to the Saints, and we could be 7-1 now if we truly believed in ourselves.

It’s NOT good enough.
It’s a loser mentality to think that way.
Toughen up, stop s******g the bed, take responsibility and be men, not sheep in the big moments, or we’ll be a side that does it over and over ad nausea for years to come, and never be successful.

Be ruthless.
Act like winners.

Whitlock with 2 contested beast marks and a goal in the space of 20 seconds made me jizz a little

Has all the qualities to be a very good forward. The club needs to lock him down (no pun intended) with a contract long term. Hell even bring his twin bro to the club to keep him from the Vic clubs.

Adelaide and Geelong arnt the big boys. Both sides probably won't play finals. Well Adelaide won't. We also just got beaten by their second string side without a bench. We'll show glimpses this year but we are a genuine bottom 4-6 side.
I agree Port are likely a bottom 6 side.

But you understate Geelong and Adelaide.
Doubt they miss the finals or the wildcard round.

btw this will be completely forgotten but WTF was with Berry trying to dodge through multiple tackles running sideways and backwards near defence in the first half. 2 different times.

very strange!
Butters does it, seen Rozee do it too. Trying to make space I guess.

Gutted to lose that.

That was an incredible game by Allir. Simply outstanding and kept us in it.

I hope Berry kicking the clutch goal gives him the confidence to take his game to the next level. He’s had so many ‘almost’ moments in his short career. If he can start to convert he has the skills to develop into a great player.

Our mids need to take note of how the crows mids just outworked, outran and out bodied them all too often.

can we drop Jacob Wehr and never play that potato spud ever again.. **** me, what he do other than run in circles all game, drop the ball, turn it over and cost us a game.
Wehr was infinitely better than you, Ewan 🤣

While it stings, you can see the future and it looks good.

We had our chances. There's still some frustrating dumb decision making to iron out at times. You just knew Sweet was going to **** his disposal there with about 2 mins to go. And we lost our way with lowering the eyes in general play in the last quarter.

But there's just such huge obvious progress under Carr. He has completely retooled our game, players who looked like utter spuds a year ago are turning into studs, and I have no doubt that we will become a formidable team in time.

I absolutely loved what Whitlock showed in a big game. Loved that Berry took his big moment. Those moments are the making of talented young players. Lai showed plenty and continues to have the courage to go for his marks. Jones again with some huge moments.

Sucks to lose to that pack of absolute clowns, but we're heading somewhere and Im here for it.

Our record in showdowns and finals tells you what sort of people we have at that club on and off the field, it’s no coincidence.

This has always been the case in our AFL era, though. 2004 is the exception.

Best part, we competed hard and kept the tank going.

Worst part, we played Hinkleyball, we were outplayed through the middle, our movement stifled and really got lucky to get so close. They deserved the win, they deserved to win by more. There weren't many positives to take from the way we played. They were up for the fight and they wrestled the win away from us through pure grit, being tougher for longer. The sorta midfield issue weve seen for years.

Ultimately almost got out of jail there, with one of the all time great moments. Instead the honours go the other way as we concede multiple critical moments in a play we never should have. Drew and Wines concede a free in a 1 on 2, Bergman doesnt take the tackle and just handballs out, Butters also doesnt take the tackle and kicks a SHORT kick straight to them, Wehr on the outside gets sucked in as he did several times tonight and leaves Cook on the outside.

So many poor moments. Happened all game, lots of those in the last quarter too, but just highlighted the fact we were off tonight.

What a bloody disgrace, completely undone the good footy from the week before serving up that crap. Get stuffed.

Eagles by 2
Hawks by 3
Crows by 1
Could even chuck Saints by 14 in there for good measure

What like 20 points down a quarter through the last. Didn’t do a classic Hinkley era relent and turn it into a 40 point loss. Big experience and moments for Whitlock, Berry, Lai (whom when the camera panned to our bench i was thinking wtf is he doing there hes been one of our best backs).

Carr looked so visibly pissed he immediately turned his back after the showdown medal was announced and fkd right off out of there. Even what he said after the hawks game makes me think he is turning the wheel of us being an emotional based club. This gives me so much more hope than anything ive seen this year on or off field. While Kenny (still is) would be waiting to get facialed by Nicks and have a laugh with the lads because showdowns are the best someones gotta lose etc.

In reality who cares about these 4 close games right in this moment. We arent close to playing in a grand final right now. We have way too much autism in our side such as Sweet belting the ball from a centre bounce stoppage, The crows hitting it to wines knowing he would fk up in the third, Durdin not sticking that tackle, Evans and Wehr standing around like seagulls, Marshall trying to impersonate elijah hollands. Somehow the crows also managed to shut down our prime ball users in richards and farrell by winning the hard ball, manning up and applying pressure when we had it so credit where credits due.

What we currently are though are learning and as time comes these results will be reversed.

New system new learnings new carr
