At their peak if you had to choose one who would you go with?

Both great players but if I had to choose I'd go Bartel, always seems to deliver with clutch goals in big matches. Also has a great defensive side to his game compared to most of the top mids.

Bartel kicks the extra odd goal while Black is the better inside mid(from my point of view).
Everything suggests even though.
Whish there was an even option in the poll; I'm now only picking Black because I'm from Brisbane.

Bartel by the skin of my teeth. They're both incredible players, but the deal breaker for me is Bartels hands for his size are the best in the AFL, thats the only difference IMO.

I think Bartel adds more value to a team. He's a tough inside mid, a good mover around the field, can go forward with his excellent overhead marking and can potentially do a job down back. Black is more consistent but I can't go past Jimmy.

black is a much better pure mid, and that's what wins you games nowadays more than anything else.

Would say Black.....his Norm Smith was one of the most dominant GF performances. Absolute star still @ 30 odd in a crap side.

I know brownlow votes aren't everything and some people don't rate them but for the record, Black currently has the 9th most brownlow votes of all time on 173 and should be good for another 8 votes which will see him finish at 5th.

Black averages 0.63 votes per game
Bartel averages 0.52 votes per game

Not many players better than Simon Black at his peak, I rate him up there with Cousins, Judd, Voss, Hird, Buckley, Ablett etc.

Bartel is an absolute champion though

Very very hard call, but Black just wins. Bartel has a lot of time to prove me wrong though
