SIMON Wiggins is in line for a recall for Carlton's clash with Adelaide at AAMI Stadium on Saturday.
Carlton coach Brett Ratten said Wiggins had overcome a minor back problem which forced him out of the Blues' huge win over Collingwood last Sunday.

But Ratten is also toying with making no changes to the side which obliterated the Magpies, and said there would be some debate at the selection table ahead of the trip to Adelaide.

"He (Wiggins) is right. He just had back soreness and he's had a hamstring (previously) so we just got a bit worried about it and withdrew him," Ratten said.

"We've got a spot or two we're looking at, though it might stay unchanged.

"We're debating 'Do we go a bit taller, do we keep the run up?'"

Carlton have a 4-4 win-loss record, while the Crows are 3-5 but their defeats have been against the top five sides on the ladder.

Not really surprising is it - the MC thought he was good enough to be selected last week, and so if he is fit then obviously nothing has happened to change that opinion for them. (Whether some posters would like to admit it or not)

As the article suggests though, hard to change a team that won by 51 points. I'd expect that only Wiggins, and possibly Houlihan would be looked at this week.

oh you are happy......me too....we need the chief!!!

What he does do very well is provide an option coming out of defence. Struggled in his last two games but early in the season he was that transition between attack on defence, marking the ball on the through the middle of the ground and dishing it off to players running past.

One of my criticisms of the team is that our half forwards and mids when it's congested don't present hard enough. Wiggins, Russell, Judd and a couple others are players that constantly do it but not enough across the board. While on TV the chip to chip footy we play at times (e.g. 2nd half against the Pies) looks like a conscious decision, more often than not it arose because the person with the ball had no one working for him forward of the centre and so his only option was either to go backwards or kick it long to a contest.

Not sure if that'll be enough to earn him a spot in the side after our win but he does have his value.

ever since Wiggo's name was put into the paper regarding his lead up marking and always going to his right side wing, he has slightly struggled.

i dare say he will make an impact once he comes back in!!

Perhaps, just perhaps this hamstring concern and minor back strain were the reasons for him being a bit off for a couple of weeks before his omission. Before that, we all loved what he was doing in the side (aside from goalkicking attempts).

Adelaide like to close the game down so a bit of brute strength won't go astray. Isn't Wiggins the best bench presser at the club .. or used to be or something?

I like the Chief but his recent form has not been great. I'd rather not change the team this week and let them get some consistency playing together.

There's more chance of me replacing Juddy in the side for this week than Austin being replaced.
J im thinking in the lines of if they bring in wiggins who do they drop as his replacment.

you cant drop Hampson

waite will go back and wiggins will play that lead up hhf... ill be spewing if Austin gets the boot, as well as browne (who is the only other option) :thumbsu:

Grigg won't come back. he didnt come back last week, and so won't be back this week (due to ant's bye)

I'm wrapped Brownedog is getting a game or two now! From all reports he has been busting his guts out, and was only getting emergency call ups.

No changes this week fellas

Get rid of Browne and Austin, need a strong body in the line up and Wiggins is the man.

I heard he can bench 188.5 kgs. Impressive!

agree. Leave it, it ain't broken.
agree again. Browne stays.
Sorry Wiggo. When you can kick, you can come back.

Can't quite get a handle on the cryptic here.

Any clue guys?

No cryptic, and not a slight on the young guys. I just think Wiggins adds a positive dimension to your side on the field. Each side needs that bloke who doesn't give a second thought to his well being. Mitch Robinson is one, Wiggins is the other.

No offensive, just my "outside looking in" opinion.

He would be an ok in to the side for browne or yarran.i think yarran needs to pull a string of good games in the vfl before considering him in the 1s.

They say Bock is likely to be a week away. Therefore having a few tough nuts up fwd maybe an issue for the crows (fev, waite, wiggins, robinson,..hammo and kruezer at times)

In-Wiggins
Out-Yarran

I'd rather not see Wiggo come back in for this game.

As said above, Mitch did the job Wiggo's supposed to do better than Wiggo does it. Browne did nothing wrong and actually set up one goal with a beautifully weighted footpass that Wiggo could only dream of executing.

Yarran kicked a goal and set Stevo up for another (and let's not say he'll be picked because it's indiginous round because that's insulting and patronising and just wrong), so he should remain.

Wiggo probably shouldn't be recalled until we at least see VFL returns of 3.1 or 4.2 or similar. He ruins our momentun every time he kicks it out on the full from 20 metres out on a negligible angle. Makes me vomit in my mouth and swallow it again.
