Really has a presence and impacts the play. That mark (before he went backed and kicked into the man on the mark) was a good one. Pushed away Pyke in a battle of strength IIRC.

Dropped a few marks in the conditions today but overall I thought Lycett was very good, knows where to run and creates a target. Impressed with his performance today, him and NN should make a nice partnership next year.

I was more impressed with his ruckwork today, was very good giving our mids some silver service in shit weather.
If the conditions had been better, our mids would have been able to take more advantage than they did.

We would not have seen the ball if it was dry. That game would have been over at 1/2 time.

What other team has 2 dedicated Ruckmen in thier 22 ?
Most have one Full timer with a handy forward that pinch hits when needed .

We have too many ruckmen in the 22 at the expense of run & carry, which we all know is what we need.
OK Coxy was once that type extra mid that could run & carry but those days are well behind him , so why do we persist?
The game has changed , winning the ruck is over stated, 6 foot plus big bodied mids with good hands is where the game has been heading .
Freo knew this 5 years ago , so did Sydney & every other top team. But we persist with wanting to win Ruck taps !!!( Sharked by those big bodied mids)
Lets face it, we're at the bus stop and the last bus has left the station, next bus is in 5 years.

Grant Thomas is that you?

Yep, we won a flag with Cox and the big Q who used to pinch hit. We will only get value out of 2 rucks when either NN or Lycett start kicking more goals.
Your other point, Woosh and recruiters totally misread the direction of the game. Instead of investing in hard, big bodied mids we went will small outside front runners. Midfields win flags, its that simple.

Hansen was CHF. Q played FF. Q kicked 65 goals that year as basically a stay at home FF. He had less than 40 hit outs for year and about the same in 2005.

Seabs had around 300 hit outs in our Premiership year and played 22 or 23 games.

He had similar stats from less games in 2005.

Q became more a pinch hit ruck in later years. He had very limited time in that role in 2006.

I think at 15 hit outs and 10 disposals a game mainly off the bench, Seabs was very much part of a 2 ruck set up

But according to Tracker all the other clubs "collect" ruckmen.

Freo have 2 ruckmen.

I think it's important if you're going to play 2 that they can offer some flexibility. But a team has a clear advantage late in a game if a back up like Lycett (on today's ruck form) is say up against say Tippett.

I think playing 2 rucks for the hell of it makes no sense. But 2 genuine quality rucks isn't an issue.

Yeah,
Lycett ahs gone backwards hasn't he. Not the dominant ruck we were expecting but they do take longer to develop.

Learning to perform dependably is the next step for Lycett - keep backing him but he just needs the reminder that there are others waiting in line (Sinkers).
