OK...we lost the GF. C'est la Vie!

I think we need a thread to remember the great year we've had- post your praises here!

Well done Cats for meeting every challenger during the year and giving them the "heads up" that you gotta be good to take the flag- and the Hawks listened to the lesson.

Well done to Prismall, Lonergan, Varcoe, Taylor, Blake and Gamble for taking another step in the right direction and helping the team have a brighter future.

GO CATS!

Agreed. To win 24 out of 26 in a season is an excellent effort. Sadly, to lose the big one hurt.

The Cats are young enough and good enough to bounce right back. Just as the loss to the Magpies lifted the Cats earlier this year, I predict lessons will be learnt from the GF loss, and the Cats will come back with a vengeance in 09.

Couldn't agree more! We may have got the cup, but there's no question that on the whole Geelong were the better team this year!
I hope we only have to play you once next year - your boys will have the hunger back in a BIG way!

You guys were awesome this year, clearly the best team in the league and you should be proud of your club and your team.

We Roos supporters have felt your pain (see 98 GF) when we kicked ourselves out of it (2 goals 18 points in the second half) but take heart as just and we did in 99 I think you guys will be forged into a team so bent on winning that nothing will stop you next year.

good luck and keep your chins up. :thumbsu:

Thanks for that...but somehow I think we'll play the Hawkers twice next year, because we played them once in '07 and once in '08. Traditionally, round one is the GF replay, so I guess we'll see ya in Rd 1!

Whilst dissapointed over the weekend, i'm now just feeling pride and excitement! It's not like we did a port adelaide. We're building a very strong, successfull team and this is just the start!

Every week we could come into work or go to school on Monday with a massive grin on our face after a win and by Wednesday it was time to genuinely look forward to the next round because we knew that we were capable of beating EVERYONE. Gone were the days of dreading coming up against certain teams!

24 from 26 and no premiership is the worst result, ever

Sorry.

Terrible year, one I'll hate to look back on.

Afraid I have to agree with you Cheshire Cat, sure it was a great H&A season, could hardly have been better really, but the purpose behind it was to set us up for another flag and that didn't eventuate.

To fall at the last hurdle makes all that came before it irrelevant really, great while it was happening, but ultimately pointless.

For me this is the year we got ahead of ourselves, playing group and coaching staff. Our champions carried us through the season whilst several rode on their coat-tails. It did not sit well with me all season, and which is why I thought we were a chance to lose the GF if Hawthorn made it. We were lucky to beat them Round 17.

I still love the Geelong Footy Club and only hope they will come through for us in 2009.

The thing that kills me the most is that our forwardline played just as badly against the dogs the previous week. We dominated the midfield but never truely killed them off. This wasn't addressed the following week. At the end of that dogs game I felt worried and said to a mate if we play like that next week we will lose...this is one time i wished i was wrong :(

Only positive I can see out of Saturday is the loss has made most, if not all of the bandwagoners f**k off.

Did anyone else read the article in the Ablettiser yesterday that one guy was on facebook on Saturday night and came across a group called "I won't support Geelong again because they didn't win the GF in '08"?

Seriously, if that's their attitude, they can f**k off and never return for all I care.

Counteract it and join the "I'm still supporting Geelong, even after the 2008 Grand Final" group. The guy inside Half Cat is one of the admins. Or you could join "I Support the Geelong Cats Move to Western Sydney". :p

That's what I'm hoping can happen. Although the Kangaroos of 1999 did get extremely lucky with the Bombers falling in the Preliminary Final. Nothing short of a 2009 premiership is going to dull the pain of last Saturday, so lets pray the players feel the same way and unleash the fury next year.

I can't stay mad at a footy club that gave me so much happiness in 2007. I think in 10 years time we'll all look back on this era and realise how lucky we were to even see one premiership (think of Collingwood 2002-2003, or St Kilda 2004-2006). But this year will hurt for some time yet.

I dont know about you guys, but I think it is time we stop focusing on the negatives of Saturday and look forward...

Yeah ok we missed out on the big one.. The golden opportunity and we let it go... No point, in pointing the finger at particular players as there was more than one or two that let the side down.. there were a culmination of silly errors..

The one positive is that the playing and coaching groups will use this as motivation going into next season... As the old saying goes, "what doesnt kill you only makes you stronger", and I think this will make the boys lift even higher next season...

There are plenty of positves to look forward too, We have had a great season apart from 2 games. Egan Back from Injury. Some of the Younger guys on our list will be more experienced players and will come into their own, and the playing group will have a greater hunger for success, and the motivation to take them all the way.

Im looking forward to a massive 2009 at Geelong.... GO CATS

Well there are those that always look at life as 'half-empty' and those that are the opposite and 'half-full'. I believe in 'half-full' as it would be a very shi77y life otherwise. To the bandwagoners, grow up and take a chill pill. Show some humility in defeat; it will only give you imense pleasure when we win again. And I'll tell you something, we most bloody well will.

Things are going to change, we have a window that is still wide open. With Gamble (who will take off this year), Hawkins and youngsters like Davenport to come into the squad. We have a great batch, there is no reason why we can't get back to the GF.

Again to the bandwagoners, we are going to do it with or without you, so why not jump on board?

The year means nothing. Nothing at all.

Celebrating it is going back to that 'old' mediocrity accepting Geelong culture.

We're past that.

The future is still very bright however, so looking forward to that. But losing the GF after the year we had is beyond tragic. We shouldn't be content with anything less than Premierships for the next couple of years at least.
