The July 2018 Power Rankings went out last night.

It is not easy when you've got so many banging down the door outside that top 25. A few more names got added to my overall rankings (about 100+ names) of draftable types from the Champs. Reluctant to put too many up high just yet until I see them a bit more. Dillon O'Reilly, Jordan Clark and Sydney Stack are three I like the look of. Tyrone Smallwood and Rylie Morgan a couple of other WA blokes that I've got on the "watch" list. Lions fans, I was really impressed with Connor McFadyen - looked good for the Allies, but he's that 190cm height where he almost has to be a midfielder and he looked comfortable in that role (after playing a fair bit forward in previous matches). Dirk Koenen a good outside chance I think for the Suns, worth a rookie.

Not entirely sold on this next 10, particularly Brownless/Turner, but that's what I've made of the next group of players (which will probably change in my mind in 24 hours).

Good effort there but personally I don't rate Ned McHenry quite that high, I just can't see him going in the 1st round? I obviously rate Jye Caldwell a fair bit higher than you too.

I'm wary of his height, and that's one factor that has me wondering where he might go. The mid 170s don't often end up inside mids, so that's why he's been playing forward. He could end up like a Caleb Daniel type though, because give him space and he can use it well, but his pressure game is what makes him so good. Can hit the scoreboard, so those types are in vogue.

Caldwell every time I've seen him he's got injured - that's not hyperbole, that's actually a fact, sadly. I want to put him in the first round, but I can't off my own viewing do it because I simply have not seen enough minutes to justify it. On talent I know what I've seen he's in there, I just need to see where he is at currently.

Great news that Tasmania will have a stand alone team in the TAC Cup in 2019.

Because my miles travelled just needed to increase :p

It is great to be able to compare Tasmanian talent alongside Victorian talent.

Because of Tassie's inclusion, which names do I need to read about for 2019?
Mitch O'Neill is probably the first name that comes to mind. I'm interested to see how they structure it given it means there will be 13 teams.

Turner has some very clean hands from what I've seen, but I am unsure about where he goes as well.
Brownless is growing on me a little, rough around the edges but I don't mind him.
McKenzie is someone who you could move up the order in my eyes.
Rowbottom is drifting in my rankings, not really sure I like him as much as I first thought.

In no particular order next year for 2019, I have in my top 20:

Vic Country: Hayden Young, Caleb Serong, Sam Flanders, Lachlan Ash, Brodie Kemp, Brock Smith, Jye Chalcraft, Cooper Stephens
Vic Metro: Noah Anderson, Dylan Williams, Matthew Rowell, Emerson Jeka, Josh D'Intinosante
South Australia: Cameron Taheny, Will Gould, Daniel Sladojevic
Western Australia: Deven Robertson, Luke Jackson
Allies: Mitch O'Neill, Liam Delahunty

Again, same disclaimed I've seen more country kids (and saw the u16s champs last year), so that's vastly what it's based off, I know Sandy have Maginness/Mahony, Western's Cassar, Northern have a few more in Potter/Gardner and Gippy even more with Sparkes/Van Der Plight.

I want to see more of bottom-agers from WA and Allies in particular to make more assessments on them.

My knock on Turner was his inside ability, he seems to have worked on it this Champs and he just strikes me as that player who once you get to that third round, clubs think "yeah he's got some good signs and talent, we'll take a punt".

McKenzie has come a long way because I saw him as just an accumulator early in the season, but I liked his work off half-back. Rowbottom is a big topic of discussion behind the scenes, D_P_S wants to have his babies ;) I'm not as big of a fan, but that's just like everyone, we all have players we love (probably more so than we should or more so than others). Mine is Barzen.

Brownless is another I wasn't huge on, because he floats in and out at times, but I actually like him more at half-forward than in the midfield.

Sandringham and Oakleigh should be strong again. I like Trent Bianco from Oakleigh and Sandringham also have Darcy Chirgwin, Fisher McAsey, Louis Butler, Charlie Dean and Corey Watts.

From the Allies id have Tom Green ahead of O'Neill and Delahunty personally but not by much.

From SA despite his size im a big wrap for Kysaiah Pickett and from WA Jeremy Sharp has impressed me heaps in the champs so far.

Somebody get back to me once they find a flaw in his game :p Until i find one im on his bandwagon haha

Didn't realise he kicked at 100 per cent, and is leading every single statistical measure including the goal kicking... ;)

Yeah most of those blokes are on my extended list. Green the highest of them. Once I review the tapes in detail following the champs I'll be able to pencil them in a bit more.

I'm also on the Rowbottom train (that may because of my unashamed bias for Oakleigh boys) because jeez is he a beast. Looks like he's one that'll be able to make an impact from round 1 next year

HE DOESN'T NEED ENCOURAGEMENT :p

I have a soft spot for players that have a real crack, i think his size is will count against him making an impact at AFL level in his first year especially as a midfielder so if he does play it will be as a role player either as a stopper down back or a pressure forward.

Lazy flaw, but he is rather meat and potatoes styled midfielder for me, nothing amazing nothing crap. Just not sold on him and he seems like a one position players as well, not sure he can play anywhere else at AFL level?

Same here, I was not massive on him.
I actually felt like I went out of my way to make reasons to not like him.
Then I slowly started to struggle for reasons to discount him. I do like his half-forward work and I think it will cover up a little of his sloppy footskills at times. A kid with his tank certainly and ability to play taller than his height could come in handy.

Haha that’s how I described James Tsitas back in 2013. AFL Academy member, inside midfielder... Werribee? Player now.
