Phantom Draft Snoops Annual Mock Draft with explanations

Thanks for that snoop, awesome effort! Would of thought some one would be looking at Ryan Davis from west coast, considering that he knocked back a new rookie contract. Has the physical attributes to make it, just lacks the decision making and kicking lets him down. His attack on the ball/man is also first rate. In my view gold coast might be his destination.

yeah I completely forgot about him. YOu would think someone has offered him something.

Really good effort Snopp D-O double Gee.

Id be surprized if James Hallahan of the Stingrays was not Rookied.
He had a really consistent year, can play on different sized opponents and is a lovely kick.

West Coast will be disappointed if they take Bennel. I saw a fair few VFL games last year and that is one bloke who is destined to play WAFL. Lacks courage and fitness, very one dimentional and doesn't even do that well.

Great write up Snoop. Appreciate the effort you put in here. However, I would also like to put forward the note that the Blues are interested in Cachia and probably would take him if given the chance.

On a side note, I believe the Jets' Rayner is a bit stiff not to get a spot (unless I missed him:eek:) purely based on his athletic capabilities. Is very slight, but averaged 24 possies in the TAC Cup IIRC and runs a 15.5 beep. Interested to see what your thoughts are on him?

I think Ess will rookie Marcus Marigliani (Frankston) and former Bomber John Williams as both are training with the club at the moment.

AhChee would be a nice pickup!!

Michael Florio - Reminds me of Cale Morton in terms of foot skills, size, shape and mobility.

Mitch Carter - Fits our needs in terms of launching attacks of half back. Prefered second pick. If we get him then we can forget about Coyne.

Rhett Mason - Heard plenty of good remarks about him. Impressive goal kicking midfielder/ flanker. Prefered 3rd Rookie at this stage.

Ryan Neates - If we get the top three i would be more intrested in Brown, Daly and then Luff. But if we dont he would be my top pick for our third Rookie spot if still kicking around.

Lance Daly - I really like Daly if he's not drafted this year surley in coming years. Will be too fast, mobile and strong for the WAFL. Reminds me of a lighter version of the Brown Twins.

Chris Luff - Smart defender with plenty scope for improvement and development, my issue directly relates to his height?

What are thoughts on Josh Grabowski and Jackson Bright from the Geelong Falcons. Saw both play a bit this year, and there seems to be a fair amount of talent. Just noticed they weren't in the list, and wondered why not?

I just love a tough aggressive key position forward and this bloke has all those qualities in bucket loads. Very fit fella who keeps on presenting all day and is prepared to hurt blokes in the marking contest. Seen a bit of him and just love the way he hits the pack and sends the opposition defenders scattering.

Great read and thanks a lot. However, I can see why your rating of Panos differed so greatly with that of the recruiters.

This is a painfully inaccurate description of the way Panos goes about his football. "Aggressive", "hits packs", "hurts blokes" "sends opposition defenders scattering" - I have no idea where you got this from. Matthew has a lot going for him but these are laughable descriptions. Panos is a very soft footballer and it is not uncommon for him to completely 'squib' contests altogether. Really lacks physicality. Along with other things, there are certainly concerns over this aspect of his footy.

Great work, great read.

As far as Brisbane goes... we are definitely going to pick up Niall McKeever as an irish rookie, and we've allegedly essentially signed Sean Yoshiura from Mt Gravatt onto a rookie contract as well.

Would be rapt if we picked up Broc McCauley.

YOu may well be right but I saw 3 of his champs games. During one I was sitting next to one recruiter and we both remarked on how hard he led into packs. He also took some great contested marks that day. We were talking about it because we thought Solly with his body size would be the more physical one.....and he wasnt. Didnt see anything in the other two games that led me to think otherwise. But hey - there is something they dont like so maybe thats it.

They have come out and said that all those five are likely to be mature bodies (which surprised me a bit) - logic being they cant have all kids and they are thinking only 8 uncontracted players - which means massive offers to a few!

I know a bit about the Swans and they rate Ablett very highly in terms of professionalism and work with new draftees. Logic was there is a role for that at GC - bit speculative but a chance.

Anyway somehow left out Sewell so will probably look at him instead of Ablett.

I agree with you...I just think that makes Ablett a good look for the coaching/mentoring staff area (as it has been rumoured our DJ will do as well), I don't think it means you need to waste a list spot on him. But he could well get picked up and I wouldn't be surprised.

I plan to look at this thread every day from now until tuesday in the hope that the spell it is putting me under will transfer to all the clubs recruiters and we will get Dare :D

I am also on the Pods train.

Love your work, as always, Snoop. I know that Cameron Pederson (Box Hill Hawks) is going to North Melbourne. Your thoughts on him?

I thought he might land at Hawthorn to be honest so he was in the mix. Must admit still surprised they let Harris go but suspect they feel maybe Swallow and the emerging Greenwood are better prospects which is fair.

I think North could be a bit of an improver actually. Big fan of McIntosh getting a full year, Petrie fwd, kids like Wright / Greenwood / Ziebell developing and with Wells back they could rise. Pratts the other one you want a better year out of.

Its either GC, Geelong or Pies for mine. Be surprised if he lands anywhere else.

yeah Bright particularly is a big chance. went under the radar and like you seen him a couple of times. probably just not enough to be absolutely certain though.
