I'm surprised you're not down there letting him know he's not wanted.

We'll hopefully get some pictures from training on the news tonight.

I don't have a problem with us using a 4th round pick on Kepler.

Some big fellas take a while to mature and he may well just not of settled in to life in Melb. Who knows, a bit of time in his home state may make a difference. I suppose all the coaching staff can do is give him a crack and see if they cannot pick him up cheaply if he shows something in the next few weeks.

It may be my optimistic nature, but I think we are doing the right thing giving him a shot. He will be playing and training like this is his last shot, he has nothing to lose..... hopefully he proves Essendon wrong.

This all sounds like a player of ours last year.............Polak comes to mind if we had him we wouldnt be looking at Bradley.

I don't think so. Polak's issues were attitude related. Bradley has not been accused of poor attitude, but of being a a player who's skills let him down, and who can't find a position that suits his size.

Harvey on 6PR when asked by Brad "who do you think out of the young crop will really improve this year? Who will you put the acid on?" Harvey said something along the lines of "i really don't like to put the acid on anyone this early but we would be expecting big years from warnock, Drum, he finished first in his time trial today, O'brien also we have sent a strong message to collard, dunn and mourish that we want better from them, that they need to be able to place continued pressure on the 22, this way we get the best from them and the 22. .................... They have three to four weeks to show the correct commitment and we would then look at re-drafting them. .............................. (on tarrant) first full pre - season, he was not running until Jan last season and that affected him in the second half of the year, also getting used to the travel commitments. ................................ (on keplar) he will be kept out of all strategy mtgs until drafted, if drafted, he finished mid pack in his time trial heat. ........................ (on coaching staff) all very strong personalities with a strong presence about them, scott just finished a successful time as player and again has a certain presence, wallis spent time under sheeds (grant thomas? not sure) also has a strong presence and again a premiership player, Prior had two knee recos and got the most of himself will be involved in development, Bond has the most experience of the lot and will work well. It will be interesting to see how the players react, as they will know where they stand, but also the goal is for the players is to learn from talking to them about how they where succesful.

That is all I remember, oh and he said that they where focussed on young players in the draft but the door would not be shut on cousins until the afl makes a decision. Didn't really say either way but did say they would consider him under the right circumstances.

He also expects the six or so new players to the list to be putting the acid or pressure on the 22 next year.

From The Age:

''Flanked by his new-look coaching panel, Harvey was front and centre as the Dockers began pre-season today, four weeks earlier than last year, and with an almost entirely new match committee.

Harvey’s Essendon connection extends to new Fremantle assistants Dean Wallis and Michael Prior, while former Dockers captain Chris Bond and two-time Brisbane premiership winner Chris Scott complete the brains trust."

Where were German & Malaxos??

Aren't they part of the "new match committee" and the "brains trust"

Dockers warned summer will be no holiday

THE new-look coaching staff at Fremantle has taken charge of its first pre-season training session - with head coach Mark Harvey promising summer pain in a bid to transform the Dockers' fortunes in 2008.

Harvey and new coaching assistants Dean Wallis, Chris Scott, Chris Bond and Michael Prior put the returning Fremantle players through gruelling 3km time trials - before Harvey warned there was more to come.

"They understand that when you finish where we did last year it is unacceptable," Harvey said.

"But if you have a look at who played in the finals this year, you can turn it around quite quickly. Hopefully we can be one of those clubs."

Discarded Bomber Kepler Bradley was one of those hoping to impress the Dockers, given a chance to train at Fremantle after being delisted by Essendon.

Former Bombers assistant Wallis said he still believed Bradley had a future at AFL level.

"He is a player who is at the crossroads obviously, he needs to have a club that wants to find interest in him," said Wallis.

"He desperately wants to come back to Perth.

"He gets an opportunity to train here and we will make some assessments on him ... leading up to the draft. But I hope for his sake he gets another opportunity because he is a quality person."

Great sign for us that Crowley and Peake came second in the time trial. Crowley was still hobbling around in January 2007 after post season knee surgery.

Also Dodd winning the time trial is a plus as it shows he has the potential to go back to the midfield in that negating role where he started.

Re Harvey, I know it is very early days but I'm liking what I hear from him in the media. Seem to hear a lot more "need to work hard"s than previous coaches, ie he is more overtly critical.

Myabe, but I don't think fitness has been a major issue for us. The big issue have been;

* the ability of players to succesfully progress to being consistant A grade footballers.

* ruthlesness on the field and at training, showing a willingness to sacrifice personally for the team and the game. I guess this is related to working hard, but is more an attitude issue.

All the other stuff I think is peripheral. When people say we need more tall midfielders, more pace, another Key backman, another Key forward, a change of game plan, a new coach, new recruiting staff, new song, new stadium etc, I think they are diversions from the above two problems.
