Essendon have a fair few clashes which something needs to be done about, if you are against the idea of a clash guernsey, keep it to yourself and don't flood this thread; there's plenty of other threads for you to express your displeasure of this topic.

I would like this thread to be about practical solutions, jumpers the club would actually think about using as a clash, not out there alternatives that Essendon clearly wont use.

There is a good bunch of designers/thinkers here now days to make me believe we can come up with something worthwhile.

This is one I made quite a while ago, Red back, keeping the red (granted, slightly wider) sash, with red trimmings. With red shorts, I do believe this would be enough to solve any clash problems.

That is a good job and would please Essendon in the fact that it doesn't add any extra colours to the jumper.

Heres a few while keeping the sash:

This ones just the opposite of the home guernsey:

Replacing black with white and grey.

Again replacing black with grey:

I don't really see the issue against St.Kilda if we wear our fat sash and red shorts, and against Richmond I think our normal jumper with red shorts would be fine but the AFL rejected it so our fat sash more than does the trick. I'm not sure about Melbourne because we haven't played them in an away match since we got our fat sash jumper but we have one this year so we'll see.

Anyway, here's some jumpers Essendon would consider.

These jumpers go with the theory that the red sash is more important than the black but also give a black outline to say "it's still black with a red sash", which is a flawed argument but is an argument none the less. I'd prefer the grey one as the white one has St.Kilda colours and looks too much like the old South Melbourne jumper, also we have grey in our logo so it relates to us more.

This jumper rips off the Richmond idea of side panels but still keeps the sash. It could have the back patch but I think it's unnecessary and would only add to the St.Kilda clash.

EssendonClash5.png

This idea makes the sash even bigger, to the point where it's going off the jumper. Basically it's just a neater and slightly more red version of the current one.

EssendonClash3.png

This jumper is like the first 2 but it doesn't add any extra colours so we can still be the red and black. The main issue is... it looks crap.

I should add that the only original idea was the even fatter sash, the rest were ripped off other people.

As an Essendon fan I'd say out of these I prefer our current one the most, then InCase's, then the grey jumper with a red sash. As our current one feels the most like an Essendon jumper. InCase's feels a bit less like an Essendon jumper because it's more of a diagonal stripe with a red back than a sash.

Although I've definitely posted too much in this comment I think I should add that it may be better to just wear a brand new jumper than ruin the one we're so proud of (which is what the fat sash does).

Sorry to interfere with your design InCase but I wanted to experiment with your idea.

The changes I made were adding an outline of a sash on the back, making the number white and adding stripes to the socks. I felt that red socks were overkill on the red, especially as Melbourne wears red socks, although I still kept them mostly red.

Cant believe that only HSSB has post an inverted colours jumper. Ahh well

My AGOTW entry for Essendon. I think the shorts should be red now.

Dunno why I originally made this, but its similar to a couple on here already.
Hah sorry :p

As another Essendon fan, I'd say if we have to have a clash jumper, it'd have to be the fat sash one. Or we could just put the collar and cuffs red.:p

Probably the best is to do a Collingwood and invert the colours. But then what?

I'm not a fan of inverting, it just looks wrong. I think for as long as the AFL let's Essendon use the fat sash, it will be our clash jumper and if the AFL do decide that we need a better one, I think one like the grey jumper would be likely to be chosen.

I don't want grey. More the silver of the bomber as it is synonymous with us.

Even with Collingwood?? Then their jumper looks like what they wore for the first 100 years in the VFL/AFL and probably in the VFA before that, but refuse to wear now. I know its a bit off topic.

Well with Collingwood I don't think they should have inverted their original jumper to the home jumper they have now. Although my post was more directed at Essendon than everyone else.

That's what I meant. Light grey/silver.

My effort:

Keeps the sash, with a thick black outline, while making silver the base colour to reduce clash.
Bomber on the front to top it off.

I've never really wanted a change in our colours but I love this jumper. Looks very good & would be my choice

A couple of suggestions that I'll post when i get time:

  • A double sash (making a red X of sorts)?
  • Some background gradients (to make the grey seem less drastic and more...black)?

So far I think InCase's red back is the most feasible. Remember people, they must contain a red sash for it to be even considered by Essendon. Not that any Bombers officials read this forum

The key thing is designing a CLASH jumper that deals with the clash.
There are two clubs that cause issues with Essendon, thats St Kilda and Melbourne. Getting rid of any white will solve the StKilda issue, mostly red will solve the Melbourne issue, so something based on the Lionbear solution without the white number background would work.
Only wear the clash jumper away when there is a clash, not at all away games.
