While mulling over the ladder this morning i formed these stats on teams who have beaten other teams in the top 9 current ladder positions. (hope that makes sense).

Stk - 4
BL - 3
Coll - 2
Freo - 2
Geel - 2
Carl - 2
Syd - 1
PA - 1
WB - 0

2 & 1/2 of those wins for Stk were without Nick.
And yeh, Goddard must play foward.

I agree we'd need a better goal spread, but considering there was no Roo or Kosi, it's a pretty good first up effort.

Some perspective: Carlton was our worst game for the season. They exposed us on the Premier League break with their quick players, but they also smashed us at contested ball and clearances. Essendon was a lot better. Contested ball and clearances better but the fast break still deplorable. But the Dons caused us problems last year when we were in our pomp.

I was happy to hear Ross say they feel like they've identified the problem with the fast break. Five and three, and I genuinely think we're adjusting to life without Roo, slowly but surely. Some good signs from Kosi too.

Stanley debuting this week is great. I was pleased to hear that they made the decision after Roo went down that they weren't just going to gift him his debut. He's had to work for it, and now here it is.

Obviously we've got a lot of improving to do, but it feels like we're on the way up.

If you don't agree, can you post somewhere else I've avoided the undoubtedly toxic rubbish being posted in a litany of threads this week.

I can't help but feel that people are writing us off too early. We've played pretty bad football for 4 weeks, but things can turn around quickly.

If we win on Sunday we'll be either 1 game behind the leaders or level with Geelong and the Bulldogs (assuming the Dogs win). That's not a bad position to be in.

Our next two games after the Eagles are Adelaide and Richmond both at Etihad. So a good result on Sunday and we have every possibility of getting to 8-3.

In many ways this week's result is bigger than last weeks.
