The dissent towards each other (especially at the Swans) is the FIRST sign of a team falling apart!!
They better address it.................................quicksmart too!

If this persists next week, then I can see the Saints smashing us by 100 points plus. Never mind that our skill level might not match it with some of the top teams but if our guys don't continue to encourage each other, then we WILL hit the bottom before a long struggle back to the top.

The closeness is the ONLY thing that has made us gain the respect of all our opposition & it is what has given us a 'cheap' edge over the rest of the comp. Cheap because it is an ingredient that doesn't get included in the salary cap!

It raised it's ugly head against the Dogs when Rhys Shaw gave Moore a spray & it has gradually gained momentum week by week with yesterday, the worst I have seen since Eade was coach!!

So Messrs Shaw, Goodes, McVeigh etc............................do yourselves a favour & watch the last 2 minutes of last weeks game against Carlton. You will see another player, who often makes mistakes, totally commit himself to the teams cause, (even though we were going to lose) by running back blindly to a contest, only to sacrifice the rest of his season with severe injury.
Grow up the lot of you & back up your team mate when he makes an error in execution or in judgement & give him a pat on the back & say "do this next time" or "run here next time"! But do it discreetly. The visible yelling was embarrassing & must stop!

Cheers!

^^That often happens in football. Most of the time it's behind play though. It's not a sign of a team falling apart. If Shaw and Goodes had gone off at each other 4 or 5 times during the match it might have been a concern. One time is not an issue in my opinion.

+ 1.

I actually am astonished at the over-reactions coming in this thread. Let's have a bit of faith in our boys that they will not let one argument allow our team to "fall apart", ffs. It happens so many times in a game of any kind of competitive sport it's not funny. Just cause it got caught on camera, im sure the media especially Fox will run with it and blow it up as the Swans "Bloods Culture" turning to shit, but it is just not an issue.

Hi Aussie!

Unfortunately this wasn't the type of stuff that you are talking about. At the end of the game, Goodes was clearly still not happy. Something here is not right & they must address it. It coincided with the drop in intensity in the 2nd & 3rd Qs. I'm sure Roos would have addressed the players involved. It's not something that has been too visible in the past! Yeah...............it happens, but not at the Swans like it has happened of late.

Fair enough!

We obviously view this stuff differently. I see it as a distraction on the field during a game that should be addressed during the week. It would have given the Melbourne players a lift to see the 'once mighty' Swans squabbling at each other. Lucky they didn't kick straight.

As for the Bloods Culture! There never used to be any place for this behaviour in the Bloods Culture. I'd be surprised if it all of a sudden is an accepted thing by Kirk & Roos! Especially if it was aimed at a boy playing his 2nd game!

Sorry Swans120! Not with you on this one!

And yet got pinged for running too far with the ball. Mind you, watching some of the other players trying to bounce the ball and seeing it not come up at all, you can understand why they stopped trying it after a while.

The "spray" that irritated me the most was McVeigh on Hannebery. Was in the second quarter, when Hannebery took a mark on the wing. Had Bolton on his own right back at full-back and McVeigh pointed him out to Hanners, who chose to ignore him, maybe thinking that going all the way back to FB was a complete waste of having got the ball as far as the wing. Took ages to find an alternative target and got himself into trouble when called to play on. Macca then gave Hannebery a spray for ignoring his suggestion and just went on and on with it, until he (McVeigh) was audibly called to the bench,

But then a few minutes later, when McVeigh came back on he replaced Hannebery and still couldn't let it rest, having more words with young Dan as they crossed paths.

Alot of these things arent seen on tv, Im assuming this was when Hanners was near the boundry and in two minds, ended up getting around his opponent and got rid of it under pressure with a very cool head, Hanners hits targets and I think the yelling actually put him in two minds in the first place if it was the same incident you meen, your right its not on, especially at a kid, he should have went over and got in his ear not try humiliate him but there are exeptions, if Kirk yells, you listen!
I agree it goes on at clubs and Im not a fan of it, but some players are just like that e.g, Richo, Hall etc and their teamates dont take it to heart, but when players that dont usually act like that begin doing it, its a concern and Im sure it will be addressed.

The Barry Hall stuff was pretty much a standard thing as you said Bez but Goodes has always been one of those players that has gone up to players with an encouraging pat on the back. That McVeigh had a crack at Hanners was disappointing (who made McVeigh king) & that Shaw has done it a number of times (why is he not at Collingwood) has me raising my eyebrows as to whether he can be a team man or a club stuffer!!
He has played well & may be leading our B & F but he has to pull his head in more then anyone else because without us, he wouldn't have had the chance to rejuvenate career!

McVeigh needs to be pulled into line.

And Rhyce Shaw had no right to yell back at Goodes. It was clear to everyone watching that Goodes just wanted the ball nice and high so he could out mark his smaller, weaker opponent. But Shaw waited and waited for a lead. What an idiot. He produces more bad turnovers every week than a vietnamese bakery. I am so off this bloke - worst pick up since Paul Chambers.

Thats terrible. Hopefully Roos tore McVeigh a new one as it isn't acceptable to do that to a kid playing his second game (and he is still in high school). Maybe someone should show McVeigh some video's of his first season.

Its fine to offer constructive criticism on the field (especially to kids) but yelling at them will achieve nothing and it could shatter their confidence.

it was on one hd the footage of ryhce shaw and walls asked the hawks couch an tom harley they just pushed it down to passion and said they would let the boys sort it out.

well we're a shit team so those arguments are justified!

were a shit team? some of you sydneysiders have been way too spoilt with our recent success!
On topic, Im watching the replay, 1stq Hanners runs out of defence handballs to Mattner who turns and runs didnt see the bloke who ran him down but still only just got his handball off back to Hanners that kept running, Goodes called for on the lead and Hanners kicked to space but it beat him and went out of bounds, Goodes put his hands above his head and clapped the effort, my point is Goodes wasnt upset the whole game, he looks very positive early!

goodesy37's states he is from Melbourne so don't lump his comment in with us.

We have been a very successful team for the last 13 years. Lots of fans would kill to watch their team play in 3 GF's and 11 finals series during that time. I started watching in 95 so I've been unbelievably lucky to support a strong team. As Bez said, I think you have to appreciate the good times when South Melbourne had struggled for so long. Teams don't become shit just because they are rebuilding. Brisbane haven't played finals since their last flag but at no stage would I have called them shit during the rebuilding phase. We will get through this rebuilding stage a lot faster than hacks like Freo, Carlton and Richmond.

just saw it again and picked up on it this time, Mcveigh ended up getting it and kicking it back to fullback then sprayed him again straight after his kick, did look a bit too animated for my liking..

Goodsey37 is right, we're shit. No need to get upset just because he's telling it like it is.

Hopefully we won't be shit for too long.

Thankfully Roos and the other coaching staff don't totally agree with you. I believe it went on for too long. See here http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/sport/afl/story/0,26576,25848678-19742,00.html

As quoted in the Melbourne Herald-Sun, "Roos revealed Sydney had discussed and dealt with the on-field spat between Adam Goodes and Rhyce Shaw, which occurred during last Sunday's clash with Melbourne at Manuka Oval.
The two players remonstrated with each other after Shaw was penalised for carrying the ball too far and didn't deliver it to Goodes in the forward line.
Roos said it was probably the wrong forum for his players to be so demonstrative but he didn't have a problem with their actions.
"You can look at it from two ways. You can look at it from the point of view that publicly it doesn't look great," Roos said.
"But I think the other point is it still gives you an idea of where our players are at. They are actually not going to accept mediocrity and they are going to challenge each other sometimes."

It happens in any sport. If you're doing shit and the pressure is on, you're going to take out your frustrations on your teammates. It happens to me playing in a social netball comp - I can't imagine the pressure placed on these guys. It's very difficult to have team unity when you're losing a lot and are making silly skill mistakes. Roos is right in that is shows high expectations of yourself and your teammates, but it is also signs of a team under great pressure.
