Put todays date in your memory bank.
For the good ( and after a disappointing loss its hard too understand ) every player and Ross Lyon will know why this game slipped.
I am adament after today we will put these games away with this current group , We should have been punished , but were not & are disappointed not to bank the 4 points. We are one key ingredient away from firing on all cylinders .

Just interested on your thoughts this week theGav56 ?
Well, very disappointing game, no doubt about that. I would have hoped we could beat them, and in reality, probably could have been beaten by more. I don't mind a close game, but this was pretty uneventful as a game with few standout moments from either side.

We were much more restricted in terms of how we played the game. I think we needed another midfielder rather than another tall forward, but in context, Hogan gave us much more than Ballantyne, and that is who he replaced. Gave more around the ground and in the forward line than Ballantyne has been, and at bounce downs I thought he was good. But on balance I would love to have the likes of SHill or Blakely into that side. The forward line looked out of sorts and unsure about how to go about things though.

We were beaten in the ruck and edged in the midfield. A lot of players seemed down from last week, and that is disappointing, but we should have found a way to win. We need on the road wins, and we need wins against sides that are sitting around where we sit in terms of the ladder.

What I didn't expect was that we would be chalking up 80 point wins from here on in. My entire OP is about the clear intentions of the coach in terms of game plan. I don't think that has changed at all, in fact selecting Hogan, and also the way he was used to me is clear evidence of intention to be an attacking side. Losing doesn't alter that. If you look honestly at games from a couple of seasons back you will see significant differences. Far less chipping backwards. Far less switching play. Faster movement of the ball. Much more direct and open football. Didn't win us the game today

I agree that Hogan gave us run in the middle but we lacked the extra crumber forward. I thought Banfield played well, Colyer too but Shultz was done from where he was last week (which is to be expected) but we could have used a little bit more harassment around the feet of the forwards. The forward pressure was not there from last week.

Why did you guys play so many talls? Gold Coast just overran you all-game. Should drop maybe Darcy for a running player, even though it's not ideal for Lobb to solo ruck.

Lobb was better value in the ruck than as a forward today. Seeing Darcy on the ground but not rucking revealed his limitations.

And this is why you don't go with a preemptive "I was right, you were all wrong" gloating thread after one win. We are Fremantle, has anyone forgotten the Brisbane debacle of last year?

Let's put together a solid body of work before we start saying Ross is safe (and I am a supporter of Ross)!

Why is Sandi on our list still then ???
Not quite sure what your point is, in relation to my point. Sandilands is already re-signed for a year extension before we trade Lobb in. Darcy is not realistically capable of going single handed through an entire season as a 20 year old. Why wouldn't you have Sandilands for another year?

Yes. We had 1 great game in 3 years.

Oh look, an I was right, you were wrong post, just one game later.

My OP is about the clear evidence that our game plan is changing/has changed, and that being the major criticism of the coach, one game or more is not overly relevant. Even the GCSs game reveals a different game plan from what we have used in the past under Lyon.

Mate, I have always agreed with you and I have always believed we are on the right path with the rebuild. I just think going with a thread like this is a recipe for all and sundry to fire back when we inevitably have a few bad games. You will never convince the haters.

It's why I didn't gloat to my Eagles family and friends after last week - it is only a matter of time before it blows up in your face.

Pretty much this.

It's why the over confidence before the game was doing my head in. We're notoriously bad away from home. I was hoping things might have changed but alas, no such luck. If you do believe Ross has us on the right track, it's probably best to keep that quietly hidden away till we're a bit more consistent.

Hopefully Gav can keep revisiting this thread with increasing frequency to throw it back in our doubting faces
