Considering we only have one low pick in national draft, pick 61 and the rookie draft are gonna be so important for us.

We'll have pick 61 plus 4-5 rookie picks.

I believe we need to go for speed/good skills combination and guys were can play midfield, small forward or a running half back role. IMO there will be so many late in the national draft and in rookie draft.

Here is a list of guys that have caught my eye and I'd love to see 5 of them on our list.

Cameron Johnston
Gavin Roberts
Scott Hancock
Jason Johannisen
Rhys Cooyou
Tim Milera
Matt Rankine
Jordan Eades
Aaron Elari
Isiah Stevens
Kelvin Lawrence
Isaac Baker
Kirk Ugle
Tim Northe
Hayden Yarran

Some real speed and class in this list. Some are on the small side but late in the national draft and/or rookie list is where these guys seem to go and there are often some great players.

Re: specifically pick 61 - rookie draft

Could we go mature age pick in the rookie draft ?

Re: specifically pick 61 - rookie draft

Nathan Batley - young kid from Woodville West Torrens - half back/winger explosive pace what we need - ran the bay sheffield last year i think to would be worth a look at 61

Re: specifically pick 61 - rookie draft

Aaron Elari
Max Otten
Matthew Snook
Garry Moss*
Tim Milera
Nick Liddle*
Steve Summerton*
Nick Lower*
Nathan Batley
Matt Rankine
Kirk Ugle

Matty Snook: 179cm mid-forward from Glenelg.
I've seen quite a bit of him this year in the champs, u18s and then sanfl reserves. He's got solid speed, great engine and fantastic hands under pressure. Kicking is good but lacking a bit of penetration. He has that Dangerfield/Sloane/Hayes/Cross mentality despite still having a fairly slight frame (he wouldn't be much more than 70kg). He was constantly in SA's best and was in some great form in the sanfl reserves before winning the Norm-Smith equivalent in the U18 Grand Final.
Would be an excellent rookie pickup IMO.

Nathan Batley: 185cm mid/def from WWT.
If he's the one I'm thinking of I remember him being freakishly fast at the champs. Haven't seen any of his sanfl form but most reports agree.

Kirk Ugle: 171cm small forward from Swan Districts.
I don't know that much about him other than that he's been described as the WA version of Tim Milera and a perfect substitute if we happen to miss out on the actual Tim Milera. AFL website: "Small forward with pace to burn. Was one of the quickest players tested at the WA NAB AFL Draft Combine. Has been playing in the WAFL with Swan Districts."

Darcy Armfield: 190cm from Glenelg.
I haven't yet seen him play as anything but a key forward yet, so you wouldn't think he's a great fit for us. He has a very mature body and bullied opponents even at sanfl reserves level. Not a huge amount of upside to get excited about, but I just love that leg of his. He has a legitimate 60m Chris Knights kick and would be worth a punt if the club believes he's capable of being more than just a key forward. Similar story to Jack Darling I suppose. Kicks like this don't come along every day and I remember him saying he would like to improve on his engine "or anything else that would help him play more midfield" on the AFL site.

Tom Schneider: 177cm forward/mid.
Was one of the best players of the Championships averaging about 23 touches a game as a forward from memory but there are queries over his pace and obviously his height. He seems more of a distance running and marking half-forward than a pure crumber. It's tough to see how his game will translate to the top level. I'm not as keen on him at 61 as I was a few weeks ago for some reason but still looks a solid rookie pick if he's there.

Warrick Andreoli would be my 1st choice at 61 but I haven't seen a mock draft yet that has him that low.

Does anyone know much about Talia's little brother?

Re: specifically pick 61 - rookie draft

Why ideally Max Otten at 61?

Would he still be ideally at 61 if his name was Max Jones?

So true, will not matter though. He is not as good as his brother but would be highly unlikely to still be around at 61.

There is already a lot of discussion on Max on this board. Isn't a high priority in terms of needs. Very similar to Otten as a backman, but without the offensive capacity or good work under pressure.

Re: specifically pick 61 - rookie draft

Tim Milera with pick 61.
Rookie List
Adam Varcoe(if Geelong don't re rookie him)
Rhys O'Keeffe
Tom Jonas
Jimmi Savage
Brayden O'Hara

Re: specifically pick 61 - rookie draft

Milera for mine. Needs basis purely. Hope to adress this area in the national draft or rookie draft

Yes. I probably wouldn't have bothered to look into him at all if his name was Max Jones, but since I did I like what I see. I like his own comparison of Grant Birchall. He's a runner, not a key defender and is as much of need as some of those being mentioned for pick 14 (Smedts, Pitt, Jacobs etc).

As a Norwood supporter, I'm not a huge fan of Tom Jonas, Pariah. Should have a solid sanfl career but that's about it. Good call on Rhys O'Keeffe, anyone know what happened there?

Cheers mate appreciate it. They all seem to have upside which is good and mostly sound pacy, which is also good. I'd really like us to take a risk at 61.

Re: specifically pick 61 - rookie draft

I'd be surprised if we didn't take at least a couple of mature aged players in the rookie draft.

I know nothing about pretty much all the players you mentioned lunacy. Any information about them?

I'll try put some descriptions and a link to their highlights tonight. In the mean time a think they all are on afl website.

Re: specifically pick 61 - rookie draft

Milera sounds like the perfect fit for us, can't see us passing him up if still available at 61. Also, hell no to Matty Snook, will be a very late RD pick, if drafted at all.

Re: specifically pick 61 - rookie draft

Gavin Roberts 188cm 80kg (Norwood fc)

Roberts is a player I'd seriously like the crows to look at. Has a great speed/agility/vertical leap combination with a very accurate and penetrating left foot kick. Classic modern day running half back flanker/wingman who could play midfield with a bit more body size. Is 19 years old. Was overlooked in last years draft due to injuries (I think hamstring?).

Care to elaborate? I wouldn't take him at 61 but I certainly would in the RD. Knightmare had him going 80ish in the ND last time I checked. Snoop Dog says he will go RD.

Re: specifically pick 61 - rookie draft

Cameron Johnston 181cm 78kg Geelong Falcons

A very quick player. Dangerfield type pace. Has an elite kick which is accurate and very penetrating. Makes kicking from 50m look easy. Is very versatile. Played predominately as a lead up forward (ie Brett Ebert) for Geelong falcons, but can also play off half back, wing and in time I reckon he could play in the middle as well. I really like the look of Johnston.

Re: specifically pick 61 - rookie draft

Jordan Eades 174cm 70kg

A very quick, agile small forward with elite skills. Has such good ball handling ability and can do the freak things. He is one of my favourites and a player the crows should look at. Very similar to Milera in style and ability and if the crows overlook Milera because of his very short height (170cm), Eades may be one they look at because he is slightly taller, I've seen other sources say he is 178cm.

Here's a quote from him.
Which AFL team do you support and how did you come to barrack for them?
Carlton because it is the only decent club.
Would want to have talent after giving that answer.
