I don’t agree that we have plenty of holes in our team

Our game plan deserted as because we got smashed in the midfield - we saw this coming leading into the finals against Collingwood, WCE and North.

We will get some midfield improvement from Rankine and hopefully Curtin moving into the square. I would play Draper wing in 2026 and Soligo and Peatling need to find another gear.

With that said - we need to bring in another quality mid - maybe Flanders or Petracca

I think the point was we were exposed for having plenty of holes in our side that we arent as close to a premiership as we perhaps thought. It would be different if we crashed out in a prelim but we were never in the hunt to win any of those matches and to me that means we were overrated. I dont see how Tex playing on next year gets us close to a premiership. I just dont see it.

Thats a pretty fair assessment.

I guess its whether we can trust list management to make the right call, and then if that is to give him another year..... can the selectors use him purely as a break glass option like we used Burgess this year.

And will Tex want that.

Hopefully we get the first one right so we dont need to answer the 2nd 2.

If we didn’t add anyone to our midfield it feels like it would be a disaster. Fresh off the loss makes it feel worse.

Fingers crossed if it’s not Oliver we have serious plans. A player and a future star from the draft is ideal.

It’s never as good as it seems, just as it’s never as bad as it seems.

If we don’t add anyone to the midfield this off season and Tex does retire, we will take a dip and we will fall into our natural position of our development, but it won’t be the end of the world. We still have the bone of a fantastic squad that will produce special things over the next decade.

The last few years his manager has leaked stuff to put pressure on the club via supporters. That hasn't happened which means maybe he isn't sure.

Last summer there was some increased standards the club expected of him before they all agreed to go again. No more nursing him to the extent they were and he had to be around the club in line with other player commitments.

That seemed to pay off with his fitness and form. It's just if he can commit to all that again another 12 months on.

I had heard stories of Walker missing training and team meetings cause he was doing stuff for his kids, and I get it because he's got young kids and they grow up quickly and you can miss a lot, but also think it's not a great double standard to have inside a professional club.

long way out. It wont be until after the combine and the leaks start coming through will we get a better idea as to where draftees will land. Ive seen players who were certain top 5 picks this time of year drift out to second rounders. Even Draper was sliding everywhere in the top 10 at one stage. Wasnt Fogarty an example of a players rating doing a massive downward shift as the draft got closer.

I don't agree that there are plenty of holes in the side. There's really one glaring hole and it's more more a grade midfielder, I don't see that much more that needs resolving.

Another preseason for Soligo who nearly won his 2nd Showdown medal and was equal to Dawson in the first 4 weeks and development in Curtin and Draper. Definitely missed Rankine in there as the Finals team only had to focus on Dawson given Soligo barely could cover the ground.

Agreed. Oliver is a much more appealing option at 18 months younger. I just don't see either of them coming to SA though. I can't think of a high-profile Melbourne based player, without a strong connection to SA, who we have convinced to move this century.
