I assumed this about someone I know quite well.

20 plus year marriage and a very different lifestyle from what we all knew behind closed doors...

In the history of the AFL there has never been a gay player.....yeah right.
That comedian Joel Creasy has said he had a relationship with an AFL player, and he had to leave the relationship because they refused to come out. So there absolutely are gay players in the AFL just none of them have come out, likely due to not feeling safe to publically.

I was surprised to hear the name of a Sturt forward from a person I trust

Picking up what you've been putting down, a pies player acted a bit soft in a contest and Rankine lead with something along the lines of pu*** or fairy or the like - with the context being he was calling him soft or weak rather than using it in an offensive manner or a homophobic slur?

Article says Rankine won't be at the club today

In what could have a massive impact on the Crows’ finals campaign, Rankine is set to be interviewed by the AFL’s Integrity Unit regarding the allegation.

Crows coaching director Murray Davis and senior assistant Scott Burns have both arrived at the club.

Key forward Darcy Fogarty is expected to speak to the media at 11.30am local time.

I disagree. We ‘self reported’ the Taylor Walker comment heard from people within the club and now we’re the racist club and it gets brought up years later at every opportunity.

Geelong has players passing out in nightclubs from doing drugs, sexual assault cases in the courts, and they keep a lid on it and everyone thinks they’re the model club.

Sure, don’t do this nonsense. But once it’s done, honesty and openness does **** all.

Essendon fought tooth and nail against the AFL for their drug cheating and almost got away with similar sanctions to our Tippett fiasco (where we were open about it). Of course until WADA came in over the top.
Its an absolute quagmire filled with landmines this business. I get the Walker angle, that staff member could have said nothing and Walker is a champion of the game with a clean enough record. Is he the player and man he is now because of that sliding doors moment? Only he could say I reckon.

Essendon thought they did nothing wrong because AOD wasn't on the banned list, systematic arrogance of the highest order.

Yeah Geelong has a lot of their playing list working as "financial advisors" for Morris Finance I heard. Carlton in the 80s and 90s doing reprehensible things, the St Kilda photo stuff, Ricky Nixon, Fevs gambling and the list goes on.

One of the grotesque human beings alive was voted in to run the worlds largest economy; integrity and ethics don't always equate to success.

But that's not what I want my football club to be about I suppose.

You should privately discuss with them that they've upset you like the good old days, rather than making your upset at the things they've said public.

Let’s be honest — you’re acting like this is all very complicated and sensitive and we all need to tread carefully and consider the emotional toll on Izak.

If it was a player of no consequence to the club’s premiership hopes you’d be calling for him to be burned at the stake.

It's kind of weird that you keep calling everyone else sensitive and soft, when you seem to be the only person having a genuinely emotional response.

You're so far down the culture war rabbit hole you can't even see the inconsistency between your melting about the 'wokes', and the supposed stoic masculinity of days gone past you pine for.

Me, I just think the rule of law should apply to workplaces, and punishments should be proportionate to what actually occured.

Strongly disagree. If the AFL actually had integrity sure. But its a micky mouse organisation with different rules for different players.

This has bigger ramifications. If you take a star player out of the finals for something that might have been said in the heat of the moment, the penalty is much too large. Seems a bit over the top
Im more concerned with the AFC's integrity, not the AFL's. Everyone knows a death threat is way worse than calling someone a name, its abhorrent and Willie should have been banned for more than a week... way more.

We're all going to have our points of view and its a huge grey area. If Rankine gets off with a warning citing a lack of evidence and hearsay then its because he is first nations and the AFL wants to keep their powder dry, if he gets 5 weeks its because the AFL don't want Adelaide winning.

I agree the penalty for this type of thing should be serving the community or education etc. Not 5 weeks of football.

I reckon people are confusing the Jack Graham article. I haven't seen anything about self-reporting yet.
The AFL dropped this tweet and this article

They haven't published anything since about it. AFC have published nothing to date

There is not 1 word to suggest self reporting

If this is actually what it is, there's no way you can be suspended that's ridiculous

Personally I think we should have moved past sledging as a professional sport. Not just racist and homophobic, but you’re fat, slow, your female family member has a lot of partners… leave that to country footy not for professional athletes getting paid millions of dollars.

What Greene said about Rampe on TV shouldn’t have been tolerated.

Sledging shouldn’t be about ‘finding the line of what’s acceptable’. Just get on with the sport.
