It's been too long since we had a good bout of "I know what it was and who it was but I'm not telling so just trust me bro" posts.

For all his rosey eyed beliefs, don’t think BACCS has ever led us astray with his inside word. Genuinely appreciative of his contribution here.

You need to read it, firstly it’s a copy paste definition from state law. Then 4.2 of the policy it refers to the action needing to offend the recipient in the mind of a reasonable Pertobe. No matter how much you want it to be, it’s not black and white and you bring offended means jack shit.
What you say is true.

But....all footballers from u7 to AFL are bound by the AFL Vilification Code of Conduct.

Within that framework homophobic slurs are not allowed regardless of the actual sexuality.

Most people were minding their own business watching footy, not policing language, until Rankine became the subject of an “investigation” over a two-syllable word.

Apparently, in today’s AFL, saying something mean now carries heavier consequences than physically striking someone.

We’re seriously at the point where a word is treated as more dangerous than violence. A word.

Imagine being so delicate, so impossibly brittle, that hearing it makes you think someone’s entire career should be torched.

People are fed up with this. I’m not sure what circles you operate in where you think that’s not true.

Imagine being so brittle that you have a tantrum and in one post declare that proportionality of punishment is a fringe loony concept, and then in the next post type an essay about how the potential punishment is disproportionate to punishment for other conduct.

I'm sure this is all very impressive to the 'circles you move in',.

I hope he gets off - purely because I want to see Rankine on the September stage - I think he was born for it.

But the issue with racial or homophobic insults isn't about how direct they were, who was offended by them, or how offended they were. If you're using it as an insult - you're actually saying that race or sexuality makes someone inferior - regardless of whether you're describing him as a person or his attack on the footy - you're saying that homosexuals are weaker and inferior. It's not about brittleness - it's purely to make AFL culture more inclusive of people with race or sexuality that has traditionally been marginalised, because footy culture hasn't been inclusive.

I feel very sorry for the players that get done for it, as it is still part of culture to use these terms as insults. In most cases they don't mean to be denigrating everyone of that race or sexuality, but they are.

The non gender specific they/them vegans outlawed it
No. Society as a whole has largely agreed on certain terms we don't call people any more because they are used as hate speech.

Is it so hard for you to just not call people F slurs? Is that asking too much? You really wanna do it?

Without wanting to derail the thread, its not just here at the AFL, go look the policing the UK right now where facebook posts that are deemed wrong think attract longer prison terms than the newly arrived sexually assaulting an underage girl. Its an ugly place society is heading.

My only comment though is that with all the education and training available, surely players understand to just shut up these days as the punishment ends up being far greater than the crime and when they get punished, so does the club and by extension every one of us who go to support the team and pay our memberships and might now see a possible premiership tilt get derailed..

I think that's a very calm and measured response, and very reasonable.

I'd like to make a Collingwood supporter joke here, but it seems unfair considering you've been pretty respectful.

Probably doesn’t think either Crows or Port can get a deal done. Will go to club of choice as a FA when contract is up.

I think it’s monumentally stupid to only sign 2 years when his value will never be higher, but hey, better then him going to Port.
Thats exactly why he's done it, and how desperate they are to keep him.

Good for the league, bad for us.
