St Kilda complain about priority draft access in Oct 2024; now set to gain priority access to a first / second round pick via their NGA access

Because you keep using it as evidence that we’re being dishonest or something, even though it’s untrue and you yourself have admitted you know nothing about the draft. By pointing it out I’m attempting to show how you aren’t arguing in good faith.

I'm using any talent you get via the NGA. The first rounder was but one example. You should also get into the recruiting game if you know where future picks will fall.

This whole website is about arguing in bad faith. Glad we are getting somewhere.

lets say there was a number 1 pick coming in the academy under your rules there's no way anyone could acquire that pick, or teams could just say yeah nah we aren't trading our pick 1, so basically your happy if we get shit ones just not good ones
You can get good ones, just at the market rates. Why should Brisbane get pick 1 for a couple of mid range firsts, while no other club would be able to get pick 1 with anything near that?
Is Brisbane so much more worthy than the other non northern states?
If you dont realise that its an unfair proposition, then I don't know what to tell you.
All for the northern states clubs to get the first crack at their academy players, either so long as they pay the full market value of the pick they need, or they get the discount advantage, and take more of their academy kids as a trade off.

You haven't addressed anything until you go and draft a proper midfielder.

You haven't drafted one since Lenny Hayes. 27 years ago!!!

Everything else is wishful thinking, white noise, hopes, delusion, fantasy and excuses.

You've addressed absolutely nothing. Stop lying to yourselves.
Dave Armitage, Jack Steven and Seb Ross all say Hi

2021 NWM and Windhager
2022 Phillapou
2023 Wilson and Garcia
2024 Travaglia, Boxshall, and Said

How many more should we be drafting?

You've just proved my point!! You seem to have no idea outside your own club.

Armitage - 2005 (20 years ago)
Seb Ross (2012 and pick 25)
Steven never an inside mid and pick 42

NWM flanker
Windhager not inside mid
Phillipou not inside mid
Wilson winger
Garcia way too small for be inside at this stage
Travaglia not a mid at all. Flanker at best.
Boxshall inside mid but pick 50 odd?
Said - who? He's a fwd. Not inside mid

I'm not sure you understand what an inside mid actually is?

So since Armitage 20 years ago uve not invested in an inside mid with a high draft pick. It's just a fact.

Drafting a flanker and pretending they will magically become an inside mid is just a joke.

You Saints fans just keep lying to yourselves over and over and over again.

You can't be serious. They've both played there their entire careers.
Or even Pou as well, it comes very very clear who has watched St Kilda games and watched St Kilda content.

Old mate has not and zero orange braincells supporters have clearly never watched anything or heard anything in full context from Bassett

Irrespective he makes a good point. At some stage you need to draft top end mids if you want to compete.

no the comment was no mids since Lenny Hayes, the 1st 3 named were all drafted after Lenny. They are not the comps elite, but each were decent mids.

but now you mean inside mid and you disregard later picks?

Isn't that the entire point of the debate around Academy, F/S and NGA Instead of Trav and Tarau, we get a top-rated mid that has been denied to us the last few drafts.

literally the same situation the last 3-4 drafts, we miss out on the top rung of rated mids because teams keep skipping the que

Isnt that the entire debate!!!!!!!!!

Again, put the Academy kids, F/S and NGA kids into the open pool, and we get access to those "top end mids"

It's not rocket science why we have not drafted top-rated mids, they've been gone before our picks year upon year, sure we could reach for the next best, but then we'll get criticized for not taking the best "player"

Yeah understand they're out of reach, not convinced they were all club-tied (Ashcrofts excluded).

You remind me of the Brad Scott-Kangas for some reason.

We also turned our noses up at the necessary rebuild.

you do realise you can trade, we traded for Neale and Dunkley and before that got Lyons for free, and traded in Charlie, ah Chee and Joe for free, if you had of traded even remotely like we have you wouldn't be in this position, oh and I suggest giving the reported 1.7mill for de koning is going to be a complete fail

not all club tied, no but Ashcroft and Lombard last year were in that pool of top-rated mids. We could have had 2 out of that group that we missed, instead we end but with a utility in Tarvaglia and tauar, who will be very good no doubt. but again, we missed the need.

from 2023 we get Wilson, winger/outside mid, our 1st pick at 18 after trading back(1 spot) and Collard at 28 from our 2 1st round picks, which is insane, and we are about to repeat it

We're well into our rebuild, 23 odd draftees in the last 4 years, 4th oldest list to 4th youngest in 3 years suggests we've embraced the rebuild

The argument makes no sense. If its not a advantage then why have it? Why not just get rid of it?

You cant both want to keep something and claim it has no use or benefit to you also. If you want to keep it basic human nature suggests you want to do so as it has a benefit to you

My thinking here is simple. If Gold Coast and Brisbane dont think its a advantage, dont fight to keep it. Let the AFLPA deal with it instead.... Id suggest that will never happen though and I think there's a good reason for that

with all those homesick Vic kids wanting to come home and the inherent advantages St Kilda has, you'd think we'd get a few wouldn't you................................

yes obvious sarcasm

you dont think we've tried to trade for a few, you must be living under a rock

I just had a look and said averages 8 disposals and under a tackle in the VFL and uve listed him as an inside mid which shows you don't know the first thing about your own list.

The salary cap benefits you get from having a Norm Smith medalist on 400k a year cant be understated really. If one of your best players is on a rookie scale peanut contract it just allows for more salary cap space for others basically.

Its been a very important factor in the last 2 flags. You have one of the best players on the team under a rookie scale deal... It makes a big difference

thats your clubs problem no one elses, and looking at the Max King draft Gold Coast took rankine and lukocious before you and they both gone so I would suggest the "home sick" kids is a real issue but how dare they pick up a few academies kids they get everything

I mean you did pick Matthew McLeod- Allison ahead of Sam Berry (Gippsland Power).

Notably Berry got 8 clearances in 73% TOG in round 12 this year.

hes a Mid/Fwd and nowhere did I say he was an inside mid ffs, you're the one who says an inside mid is the only Midfield type that counts.

here's the link, go have a look yourself, for someone who says so much, you sure do know jack shit
