St Kilda complain about priority draft access in Oct 2024; now set to gain priority access to a first / second round pick via their NGA access

less traveled than who?

one of the most traveled Melbourne sides yearly, one of the few Melbourne teams sent interstate to play other Melbourne team
North/Hawks in Tassie almost yearly
Melbourne in Alice Springs

Home Town GF, we've been over this, but you're the only one who seems to think playing a Final, let alone a GF on a ground you play at twice a year at most, often against the true grounds tenant club, is somehow an advantage. we play in Perth as much as we play at the MCG. we have played 1 true home final in the Docklands' history! I will ask again will GCS play finals at the GABBA or will GWS be made to play their finals at the SCG?

retention issues, were about to lose our 3rd decent player in 3 years, Both SA clubs hovering around our 3 young SA players like vultures, if we lose those, will the AFL step in a give us the same assistance GCS revieved ( 3 1st rd dp's extended list size, expanded Academy zonne?) We qall know they wont.

take the Academy players and F/S out of last year's draft and we land a top-rated mid we desperately need
take the Academy and F/S out of this year's draft and we get a top mid we desperately need

our drafting was terrible, we have addressed that in the last few drafts but the issue remains. Academy, F/S and NGA are having to much of a detrimental impact on what players are available in drafts.

Brisbane getting multiple top 5 talents, whilst being top 4 and paying peanuts, is part of the problem.
When the Pies got Quaynor from their NGA, there was a stink and the rules were changed.
When the Dogs got Ugle-Hagen, there was a stink, and the rules were changed.

This is no different
less travel than Brisbane, the grand final is an issue, you are just saying its not to minimise an advantage you have, clearly not travelling is an advantage

As the premiership coach, Chris Fagan got to address the commission about the cost having to travel and the logistics around that, there is literally 0 consideration for interstate clubs when it comes to the grand final, its basically oh well come here and play and you deal with the cost and logistics, not to mention the fact supporters and families cant afford to go but thats an aside note

Having a grand final at the MCG is an advantage for st Kilda

It is funny that Fred Bassett wants academies abolished, but don't abolish the NGA because we benefit from that and are set to gain access to a first rounder. Sad little routine he has going.
Who are you referring to here then?

Thats because NGA are the real frauds, they were created as a response to the academies, this is the real distraction going on, NGA should be abolished

The academies themselves? Specific players? What?

The NGAs which St Kilda benefits from and which Fred Bassett doesn't want abolished because of that benefit.

Do you really think abolishing academies and gutting the talent coming out of NSW and Qld will help St Kilda? Or do you think this is a distraction for Saints members?

It would benefit St Kilda by way of increasing the number of prospects in the open draft pool but I obviously don't want that to happen, that would be ridiculous. I don't think it's a distraction, most Saints fans have a pretty realistic idea of where we're at in terms of list quality. I think he's using shock tactics to draw attention to the issue.

"but don't abolish the NGA because we benefit from that and are set to gain access to a first rounder". You said this in reference to St Kilda earlier. Who is the first rounder you are referring to? As they appear to be tied to my club, I'd like to know who you are referring to as I am currently not aware of any first-round draft prospects in our NGA.

name all the NGA kids that have benefited St Kilda over Brisbane....

just because it hasn't advantaged you yet doesnt make it any less of an advantage, how don't you understand this
Like the Northern academies? Which you claim don't give you any specific advantage yet could potentially land you multiple discounted first round draft picks in a year where you finished in the top 8?

They do give us an advantage!!! now you are understanding, just like all the advantages melbourne teams get and when I put them out your supporters go, nah thats not an advantage

That's possibly the dumbest thing I've read on BigFooty, congrats

Ah, so by that logic we can both agree that it would be fair to eliminate Northern academy, father/son and NGA priority access from the first round of the draft?

if you eliminate the travel and move the grand final permanently to Brisbane for the next 50 years like the mcg contract I would be happy to have that, and no not father son because once again as ive pointed out its fair for everyone as its the same rule and a fantastic rule, I would love to see the next nick Riewoldt playing for st Kilda

also just getting rid of academies doesnt fix the amount of players drafted out of Queensland, not that you care you would be happy if they all came out of Victoria

Oh dear. You were so close to getting it. It appears that you are unable to take your biases out of your arguments and because of that I find it pointless to continue this argument.

Notice how I only said priority access in the first round? You can draft as many academy players as you like after that. This should be fine, as like you and others have previously stated most of Brisbane's academy players were drafted outside of the first round.

so your happy to take away only some of your advantage, and "interstate" teams just have to cop an afl grand final at the mcg for the next 50 years........sounds very fair

so you want us to pay for an academy, run it and by the off chance we get someone good give it up yeah that also sounds like a great idea, and then we still have to draft top end talent from inter state which increases the retention issue again

I don't think they should have to do that. Unfortunately I don't see a world in which the AFL lets the GF move away from the MCG given how much more money they likely make from having it there. It would be good if it happened though, it's probably the single biggest issue with the fixture.

The AFL should run the academies. They are beneficial to grow the game but their purpose is lost a bit if the cream they produce is only accessible by a select few clubs.

its not going to change ever, so we are disadvantaged and all the victorian teams advantaged
