There was something strange going on in regarding the field placement at the start of the day play's yesterday. For some unbeknown reason, Mohammad Yousuf had 7-yes 7-players all on the boundary. It might be OK in either Twenty20 cricket or ODI cricket, but this was a Test match. I have never seen this tactic work and it didn't again. It seems that Pakistan was saying, 'we don't know how to win', even though they had Australia almost down and out.

Whether or not there was something sinister afoot, I did have a good laugh at Chappelli's comment about 1/2 an hour into yesterday's first session, when he said something to the effect of "If you're marking the logic of these field placings out of 100, the score would be zero." :p

So after a history of cheating in cricket in recent years, and recent allegations towards pakistan, the pakistani captain has us on the ropes at 8 for and puts 7 fielders on the boundary.

You don't think that is suspicious?

The corruption often doesn't come from winning or losing matches as the bets are often on how much a player makes, how big a partnership is, highest run scorer etc.

Corruption in cricket is still happening right in front of our eyes.

Take a tablet pal.

australia were something like 50/1 to win at the start of days play

no team sets those kinda fields when they are that in front of the match
serious.

australia will creep past a 200 run lead..

each paki player put in $50 at the start of the morning i swear

where did you get odds of 50/1????

dont let the truth get in the way of your argument... Aus was 7/1

In fairness, whatever odds were offered in Australia are more than likely obsolete in this arguement as it would be the odds offered in illegal betting in Pakistan and India that are likely to affect match fixing.

Not only that, when the cricketers and bookmakers get involved it's not usually about the results.

3 dodgy players can't guarantee a result but they go long way towards guaranteeing player X gets out between 30-40 etc. That's where they make their money without having to get the whole team on board or without making player X necesarily lose the match.

So what can we read into yesterday's win by Australia? Was it Australia wanting the win more than Pakistan or was it a case of Pakistan, like England in Adelaide in 2006, being in a 'don't know how to win' situation?

Having kept a close eyes on the odds of this game throughout, I would never ever touch Pakistan at odds of less than 1.10. Pakistan too many times issues of match fixing has been brought up. And as a punter I believe they are fixing.

Pakistan in reality is a 3rd world country when it comes to GDP per capita (ranked 142nd), and Im telling you if you followed the amount being matched on Betfair, around 15 AUD million was matched on this game alone. The people of Pakistan earn around $1,000 USD per year alone. Someone says 'that IPL means they get paid much more'. But I had a look at IPL 2, how many Pakistani players were involved in that? None

The thing is cricket is one of the most difficult sports to prove match fixing, you can point the evidence at this, at that but at the end of the day, the players will probably get away with it.

Cmon think about it for a second, Australia were odds of 21.00 at one stage, Pakistan was 1.06 . Imagine being on odds of Australia, you could set your life up but placing a wage on them.

Or picture this. On betfair you may have been able to lay pakistan for $1000.... if they got up you would have lost 60 (If you didnt go through the process of securing all results favorably first).... As it was you would have collected $1000 minus a small commission.

match fixing is rife in all sports and in all countries. people just dont like accepting it. its too tempting when you can literally make a million just throwing one match. and its pretty much impossible to ever prove.

It would be naive to think cricket is corruption free.

What has really struck me over the last couple of summers is the willingness of cricket administrators to jump into bed with bookmakers. We see Betfair plastered all over the ground and they are referenced constantly on the television broadcast.

Administrators can make all the claims that they like about cracking down on corruption in cricket, but as long as they continue to take money from companies such as Betfair, these claims have a somewhat hollow ring to them.

And for what it's worth, I don't think the last test was rigged, it was just pure incompetance from a pretty ordinary team.

the keeper cannot intentionally drop catches when standing up to the stumps, whether to a spinner, or medium pacer.

The brain does not work quick enough, to drop those catches, unless the keeper drops all the balls that pass through to the keeper without being hit.

Extraordinary no commentator has weighed in.

No, but they can alter their technique slightly. More hard handed, not concentrating, shifting weight back, etc. It wouldn't guarantee dropping chances, nor would it guarantee stopping balls that haven't been hit, but it increases the chances of dropping a reflex catch, and that's all you need really.

The guy can't be THAT incompetent though, surely. I think in the T20 world cup when the game was a bit tight with, maybe NZ? He caught the ball and ran to hit the stumps with the gloves to run someone out, and he MISSED it. He just swiped at the stumps and missed it by miles

Even a 3 year old boy would've hit the stumps there...

So either he is being shit on purpose or he is really THAT shit... either way, doesn't bode well for him

A simpler and accurate explanation would be that Yousuf is a shit captain and Pakistan are a shit fielding side.
Players don't need to fix matches for money, they can get enough money for doing sweet f*** all in the IPL.
In a professional sport I highly doubt that players can be that unskilled. Yousuf is an experienced player, no way would he be that stupid. Highly suspect.
Pakistan players get no where near the amount of money Australian players receive. Last time I checked, no pakistan players are allowed to play in the IPL. It shouldn't come as a surprise why they'd be doing this shit.

Ha,ha. Had to chuckle at the people thinking that Sydney test wasn't rigged. Even more worrying is that our guys think they won it off their own backs:eek:

Yet Ponting elected to bat in the second test against Pakistan this year.

Is Ponting on the take?

Sometimes a captain can be that stupid
