For the first time in the history of the competition, this round we saw the four opponents beaten in the finals by last year's premiers all play each other.

That stat hurt my head.

The four opponents who lost to the Bulldogs in the 2016 final series all played each other this round.

I know now.

It took me a few reads to understand what you said.

Chris Scott and Kevin Sheedy had the exact same win/loss record after 145 games of coaching.

As at Round three this season, each had coached 145 games, for 105 wins, a draw and 39 losses. Sheedy though had coached two flags by that stage to one. Since then, Chris's record had moved to 107-1-39. Tempting fate here a bit, but has any other coach reached 150 games before suffering their 40th defeat?

I found out something interesting In the Anzac day clash (Collingwood Vs Essendon)
Essendon manages to win every four years, (for example 05,09,13,17)
So, apart from these years Collingwood manages to win every Anzac day clash (06,07,08,10,11,12,14,15,16)
Could this repeat again?

Hafey had his 40th loss in game #139, but remained on 40 until game #152 (1972 GF).

Next best were Norman Clark 42, Worrall & Sheedy 43. Reynolds & Longmire 46.

I hope this works.

1992: Sydney go 0-6 after a mid-season bye, sixth loss comes on the same day St Kilda beat Hawthorn 130-55

^ I know you've only copied that from elsewhere but the loss on the same day as St Kilda beat Hawthorn 130-55 was in fact the 7th in a row for the Swans after the bye in Round 12 (Rounds 13-19).

I think perhaps that Carlton fan overdid the celebrating yesterday!

A bit lame but the pairing of:

75-73 was seen in a GWS/Footscray game for the first time.
67-150 was also observed in a Brisbane/Port Adelaide game for the first time.
107-94 had never been seen in a North Melbourne/Gold Coast game before last night.

Not to mention some others too.

In the last 11 rounds including the first week of the 2016 finals, the Scott brothers have gone 1/2 every week in terms of games won.

When the Cats win, the Roos lose.

At the end of the 2009 AFL Season, Matthew Richardson finished his career at 800 goals.

17 goals short of Bernie Quinlan and, in true Richmond style, finished one spot off the top 10.

Back then, the captain (then Chris Newman and previously Kane Johnson) wore No. 17.

The next captain was Trent Cotchin and the captain before Kane Johnson was Wayne Campbell.

Cotchin's current number and Wayne Campbell's familiar number, 9.

The square root of 9 is 3.

In 2009, Dustin Martin, drafted by Richmond, was the 3rd pick overall.

3 x 4 is 12 (Richo's old number.)
3 x 12 = 36 (Dusty's first number.)

Which was the last club to finish as a Preliminary Finalist or better to finish with a negative For-Against post finals?

I put forward Fitzroy (1986).

For (2,274)
Against (2,319)
% (98.06)

Lost the Preliminary Final to eventual Premiers Hawthorn by 56pts.

Are Fitzroy the last Top 3/4 club to finish the year with a negative For/Against?

Also, going back further - Fitzroy went negative For/Against 1985-1996 (last 12 years), in 1984 (post Finals) they were +14 on the season, and the last year they ended with a decent percentage was in 1983 (2817-2295-122.75%).

So further to that point, what is the current longest streak for a club going negative on For-Against? I presume it is Melbourne (2007-2016).

Also, what are the longest For-Against negative streaks in history - and does Fitzroy's extended death dive (1985-1996) make the grade?

Pre-finals (may not be exhaustive):

Negative % streaks
20 years - St Kilda 1940-1959
20 years - North Melbourne 1954-1973 (made prelim in 1958 with neg %)
19 years - North Melbourne 1925-1943
18 years - Hawthorn 1925-1942
14 years - St Kilda 1976-1989
10+ years - Melbourne 2007-current

Positive % streaks
25 years - Richmond 1927-1951
24 years - Carlton 1965-1988
24 years - Carlton 1926-1949
20 years - Carlton 1903-1922
17 years - Collingwood 1925-1941
10+ years - Geelong 2007-current

According to AFL Tables, Fitzroy were positive % in 1986 before finals (2068-2063) so their streak begins in 1987.

Are Fitzroy the last Top 3/4 club to finish the year with a negative For/Against?

I calculate that there have been three subsequent top 3/4 teams to finish with a negative For/Against after finals.

1988 Melbourne (runner up) 2347 for, 2364 against, 99.3%
1989 Melbourne (fourth) 2077 for, 2185 against, 95.1%
2000 North Melbourne (fourth) 2736 for, 2758 against, 99.2%

Incredible effort by Melbourne - 1988! That last quarter of the GF was just enough - I make them +23pts going into the final stanza.

Hawthorn had the lowest percentage in the league during rounds 3 and 4, the first time they had the lowest percentage in the league for consecutive rounds since rounds 1 and 2 in 2005. During 2004, they went from rounds 13 to 20 with the lowest percentage.

Also today, Adelaide with the opportunity to overcome the biggest 1/4 time deficit in VFL/AFL history. 64 points at quarter time would surpass previous best of 58 points.

Last night, I made some observations regarding Round 7 1999 and Round 7 2017.

In 1999, North Melbourne kicked 10 goals in the first quarter vs Adelaide.
In 2017, North Melbourne kicked 10 goals in the first quarter vs Adelaide.

1999, North won 141-85.
2017, North won 145-86.

The week before the 1999 game, West Coast played Footscray at night.
The week after the 2017 game, West Coast plays Footscray at night.
The venue, Subiaco Oval.

The week before the 1999 game, St Kilda played Carlton.
The week after the 2017 game, St Kilda plays Carlton.

More of the Round 7 1999-2017 sameness.

Fremantle scored 116 in both years.
Geelong scored 99 in both years.
Footscray conceded 75 in both years.
