Re: Post your stats questions here

Pretty sure they're only counted if you play on. Don't know the answer to the second part.

It's always got me intrigued. It's kind of like in cricket if a bowler bowls three wides in an over, the over goes for nine balls (even though only six were legal). The batsman still has nine balls added to the tally of balls faced, even though three of them weren't legal and had to be bowled again.

Just a couple of the loopholes in sports, I guess :)

Re: Post your stats questions here

I thought wides were not counted towards a batsman's tally as he could not score from them. No balls should be unless they were also a wide. I've always thought that a no-ball and wide delivery should be called wide rather than no-ball for the same reason, the batsman cannot score from a wide.

Re: Post your stats questions here

Quick one for the stats gurus.

Has there even been an occurrence of teams drawing twice in a row H&A or even in finals ?

ie week 1 drawing against Team X them drawing again following week against Team Y.

How about...probably even more unlikely....

How about the teams that drew, both drawing the following week obviously against different opponents ??

Re: Post your stats questions here

Wow Thanks Ron.

Even finding 2 I am slightly shocked, i was expecting Zero.

So it is 90 years since it happened...with more teams now in chances it might happen again before i die. :p

Re: Post your stats questions here

hi guys, im looking for stats from the 09 season. But i want more than just kicks, handballs etc. i want clearances, inside 50, rebound 50 etc.
cheers in advance

Re: Post your stats questions here

Something like this then?

Code:
[B][U]Start Finish #Yrs Field Subs I/C[/U][/B]

1946 1977 32 18 2 0
subs - player subbed off cannot return to field
i/c - player subbed off can return to field

I notice in 1977, judging by the blank stat returns, replacements didn't always
make it onto the field. These have been counted as games for the player in the records though - which is fair enough I suppose, if they were fresh players i.e. not having played any games previously on the day. Would they have?

Don't think it was customary, although I have a vague recollection of a player (other than David Hale this year) being called up to the seniors after playing in the curtain-raiser.

Jack Dyer spent his debut match on the bench - it was the Depression and clubs saved a few bob as interchange players who didn't get a run only received half match payments. I'm under the impression that it was rare for players to go off injured in that era, lest the 19th man impress and take their spot in the team.

Re: Post your stats questions here

Does anybody happen to know the dates when North Melbourne played their night series matches in 1982? All I know is they played the Grand Final against Sydney on July 20.

Re: Post your stats questions here

Just wondering where I can find some decent match statistics on state football leagues. I've only managed to find http://www.w*************.au as a decent source of match data on the WAFL. Is there anymore out there?

I'm not bothered if I have to pay a bit for the info either.

Also, I can't find any historical h2h and line odds on state football matches at all. Anyone have an idea where I can get them from? Again, unpaid or paid, I'm not fussed.

Cheers.

Re: Post your stats questions here

If Collingwood, Geelong, St.Kilda, WB all end making the Top4 in 2011 will this be the 1st time in since competition was expanded in 1986 ?

What is longest run of same 4 teams occupying the same top 4 spots (thou not in exactly same order) after H&A in V/AFL history. ?

Re: Post your stats questions here

How many sets of brothers have coached at VFL/AFL level? What about against each other?
1958-1962 Norm Smith - Melbourne, Len Smith - Fitzroy
1964-1965 Norm Smith - Melbourne, Len Smith - Richmond
(coached against each other.)
Previously Norm had been coach of Fitzroy 1949-1951 before taking over at Melbourne 1952-1965 and was later coach of Sth. Melbourne 1969-1972

1964-1971 Bob Rose - Collingwood, 1975-1977 Kevin Rose - Fitzroy

I can't think of any others.

Bob Rose coached Footscray 1972-75 so would've coached against Kevin in 1975.

In the early 20th century, Vic (Sy & Fi) & Alan Belcher (Es) were brothers, but didn't coach at the same time.
