Re: Post your stats questions here

what was the circumstances behind richmond and fitzroy playing their round 2 match in 1982 before the round 1 matches??

May have had something to do with Fitzroy's proposal to play their home games at VFL Park that year and uncertainty at the end of 1981 about whether or not South Melbourne would play all their home games in Sydney or not.

Re: Post your stats questions here

Can someone provide me with a list of instances of 28+ disposals/6+ goals in the one game?

Steve Johnson achieved this for the second time on the weekend and Franklin achieved it last week.

Re: Post your stats questions here

They brought that game forward and played it on its own as a season opener. Can't remember the reason, just an experiment I think.

Was Maurice Rioli's first game (BOG).

Not sure if this has been covered already, but which players have scored a BOG in their first game?

Since game-by-game Brownlow votes were first kept in 1984 (apart from some years in the 1930's, for which I haven't found a source), players to have earned the 3 votes in their first game are:

Although I couldn't find a specific reference, the Age at the end of 1981 when the VFL was considering what to do with an insolvent Sth Melbourne noted concern about the fixture for VFL park depending on whether or not South played all its home games in Sydney or not. South played 3 matches at VFL Park in 1981 but none 1982-1986. There may have been something about removing them from the 1982 VFL Park schedule of matches that necessitated playing the Richmond/Fitzroy match on its own.

Re: Post your stats questions here

Trying to think of players who have kicked 10+ goals in the VFL/AFL and who've done so in other leagues as well:

Simon Beasley (VFL best of 12, WAFL best of 13), George Moloney (VFL - 12, WAFL - 19) and Peter Hudson are names that I thought of straight away. Same goes for Scott Hodges and Malcolm Blight. Perhaps Stephen Kernahan, although I'm not sure.

And then there's players recruited to VFL clubs who kicked 10 goals or more for their VFL Club, but never for the club they were recruited from such as Ross Ditchburn, who kiced 12 for Carlton in 1982, but never kicked more than 8 in a game for his WAFL club, Claremont.

Then there's the near misses. Warren Ralph had 12 10+ hauls in the WAFL, but he never kicked more than 9 in a VFL match (which he got on debut), while the opposite applies to Mark Jackson who had a VFL best of 10, but a WAFL best for South Fremantle of 'only' 9 goals.

Re: Post your stats questions here

Players who have kicked a goal in every game they played.

Jamie Cripps and Arryn Siposs have both scored goals in all four games they have played for the Saints. The best I could find for the Saints was Greg Packham 17 games 24 goals. Not an outstanding average but he kicked one in every game.

Who is the leader at every club? Who is the overall leader?

Mark Jackson was the second best I found at St Kilda 10 games but he wouldn't be on the league list because there was one game for Geelong very late in his career where he didn't kick a goal.

Collingwood have a phenomenal record in last quarters this year, just losing 1 in their 10 games and recording a percentage of 247%. Essendon only lost 1 of 24 first quarters in 1985 albeit with a percentage of only 185%.

Which teams have only lost 1 (or 2) of any particular quarter?

Which teams have recorded a percentage of 200% for a particular quarter?

Re: Post your stats questions here

Ron, I guess I wasn't 100% clear. The questions were for completed seasons only (1897-2010), please disregard season 2011.

1. Which teams have only lost 1 (or 2) of any particular quarter?

2. Which teams have recorded a percentage of 200% for a particular quarter?

Re: Post your stats questions here

From 1950 to 2010 only five players appeared for both Hawthorn and Melbourne.

Is this a record for that sixty year period between foundation clubs?

Interesting that we've already given them two this year - if they're really desperate Paul Johnson could be a third - and that Robert Campbell could make it four in 2011 alone.

Hawthorn isn't a foundation club.

Some other names which can be added are:

Peter McKenna, who kicked 10 goal hauls in three different leagues.
His highest in the VFL was 16, he had a best of 12 in the NWFU in Tasmania and then a best of 11 in the VFA for Geelong West. McKenna also kicked 10 in a VFL night series game and also in an interstate game.

Also:
Ted Freyer (VFL best of 12, VFA best of 18)
Bob Pratt (VFL best of 15, VFA best of 22)
Brian Taylor (VFL best of 12, VFA best of 16)
Jack Titus (VFL best of 10, VFA best of 16)
Ron Todd (VFL best of 11, VFA best of 20)
Soapy Vallence (VFL best of 11, VFA best of 20)

Laurie Nash is another near miss having kicked a best of 9 in the VFL and a best of 14 in the VFA.
Stephen Kernahan's best in the SANFL was 7 in the 1985 Grand Final, and Jason Dunstall kicked no more than 8 for Coorparoo.

Is it worth looking at Bob Beecroft's career? He once kicked 10 for Fitzroy. Not sure of his best in the WAFL.

Not sure what made you look that up, but yes, it is.

Much appreciated! Was adding Kyle Cheney to this page http://demonwiki.org/Hawthorn and realised that not only was there a massive gap between David Flintoff and Bruce but that there had been very little before that as well...

Hawthorn isn't a foundation club.

Oops, brain melt - meant to say pre-1987 clubs.
